William Lindesay, a famus Great Wall expert and cnservatinist, and his wife Wu Qi have traveled the glbe by the back paths, prviding their sns with a unique grwing envirnment. Sun hats, backpacks and sneakers (运动鞋)—these are the day-t-day must-haves fr the family.
Mst f their trips seem far frm relaxing—cultural study in the ht and dry desert, a 53-kilmeter hiking tur f New Zealand, a ne-day climb t three English muntaintps and a six-day train ride frm Beijing t Mscw.
Many assume the family must be wealthy and can affrd their glbal travel, but they are nt. Lindesay says they just chse t spend mney n travel and eschew pricey htels and restaurants where pssible. Lindesay mentins the trip t Mscw as an example. Instead f taking a taxi frm the railway statin t the htel, they tk the subway. “We crssed the city fr saving mney, cmmunicated with lcal peple, and saw they are peple just like us, everywhere. We arrived at ur destinatin feeling cmfrtable.”
Hwever, their jurneys, which can last weeks r mnths, have smetimes been incnsistent with their children’s schling. Wu remembers nce Lindesay let their elder sn ask fr leave s that they culd g t New Yrk fr a 45-day lecture tur. Therefre the sn missed his final exam. Things like that bther the family all the time.
Lindesay attaches great imprtance t learning ut f the classrm, saying that children might scre well n schl tests, but traveling utside, in distant lands with different languages, cultures, and plitical structures, is the real test. “Yu can nly get streetwise n the street. In the last decade, scientists have been ging back and frth n ne questin: des recycling really help the envirnment? The cnclusin at which they have arrived seems t be: yes, it des. Hwever, experts warn that ur effrts shuld nt stp there. While recycling is an imprtant part f the slutin, it is nt necessarily the mst imprtant factr. Therefre, I disagree that recycling is the key t a sustainable (可持续的) future.
Cmpared t ther methds t save the earth, recycling is a much smaller player. Accrding t a recent study, the twenty tp petrchemical (石化) cmpanies in the wrld are respnsible fr 55% f the wrld’s single-use plastics, mst f which are practically impssible t recycle. This means that asking these majr plluters t take respnsibility fr their harm t the envirnment wuld d much mre than if every ne f us recycled ur waste. In additin, a dependence n recycling can take attentin away frm reducing and reusing, which are mre effective in lwering emissins (排放) and in turn helping t create a sustainable future. Therefre, it wuld d us a lt f gd if we fcus n these ther high-pririty slutins rather than simply recycling.
Recycling supprters may argue that recycling is indeed the key t a sustainable future because it helps save a lt f energy by taking what already exists and changing it int smething new. While it is true that recycling is a valuable tl in the fight against climate change, it is nt the key. Regrettably, it alne is nt sufficient. S, while we shuld cntinue recycling, we need t g further by taking ther actins fr ur planet.
T cnclude, I disagree that recycling is the key t a sustainable future. Having said that, recycling is still beneficial. It is but a small part f an intercnnected web f slutins, which n its wn can nt accmplish much, but tgether with ther effrts, can create a sustainable future fr all.
28. Why des the authr write this article?
A. T raise a questin.B. T explain a rule.
C. T present a slutin.D. T express an idea.
29. Which f the fllwing belngs t “ther actins” in the Paragraph 3?
A. Stpping using plastics.B. Individuals recycling their waste.
C. Using fewer high-emissin cars.D. Changing used things int smething new.
30. Why is recycling nt that imprtant accrding t the authr?
A. It can nly save 45% f the energy peple need.
B. It des nt help with prtecting the envirnment.
C. It stps majr plluters frm taking respnsibility.
D. It plays a small and limited part in sustaining the earth.
31. What is the key t a sustainable future accrding t the authr?
A. Cmbined effrts f all the slutins.
B. Mre and mre peple jining in recycling.
C. Reducing and reusing f single-use plastics.
D. Asking petrchemical cmpanies t be respnsible.

“I’ll be there in a few minutes. I’m playing a game with a friend, a guy named Scuzzball,” my 15-year-ld sn shuted frm his rm. “Oh, what is Scuzzball’s real name?” I asked. “I have n idea.” He said. “Where is he frm?” I cntinued. He respnded, “I think smewhere in Canada. Oh, wait, it desn’t even matter because Scuzzball just left and he has been replaced with a rbt.”
“Yur friend is replaced by artificial intelligence?” “It desn’t matter, Dad. It happens all the time! The game cntinues.” My sn desn’t mind playing with a persn r a rbt, which is typical f games these days. I wnder whether the face-t-face experience f friendship that I grew up with will be lst by ur children.
Aristtle, a great thinker and educatr, has pinted ut that shallw friendship is easily frmed but als easily abandned because such bnds are fragile. Deep friendship, by cntrast, is when yu care fr yur friend fr his sake, nt fr any benefit yu can get. This is selfless friendship. Yu can have nly a cuple f these friends because they require lts f time and effrt. Yu must make sacrifices fr each ther.
Presence in friendship requires “being with” and “‘ding fr”. Perhaps the mst defining feature f deep friendship is “ding fr”, as my friend has my back in truble r brings me sup when I’m sick. Only strng bnds have the pwer t mtivate real sacrifices. But it is unclear why nline “friends” wuld bther t d the hard wrk f friendship. When I asked my students whether they had peple in their lives wh wuld bring them sup when they were sick, they laughed at my Stne Age questin and said they’d just rder sup nline themselves.
Digital life fills and absrbs waking life time s that peple d nt jin in an example case f friendship, like sprts, cllective arts, free range childhds, etc. In this way, digital life prduces false friendships.
32. Hw des the authr lead in the tpic f the text?
A. By quting famus mttes.B. By intrducing an nline game.
C. By shwing rbts’ irreplaceable rle.D. By presenting a parent-child cnversatin.
33. What des the authr mainly explain in Paragraph 3?
A. Impact f selfish friendship.B. The meaning f deep friendship.
C Selfless sacrifices in friendship.D. The frmatin f shallw friendship.
34. What can we infer frm Paragraph 4?
A. Rbts will have ur back in truble.
B. Virtual friends wn’t make real sacrifices.
C. The students thught highly f the teacher’s questin.
D. Ordering fd nline fr friends is an example f “being with”.
35. Which f the fllwing can be a suitable title fr the text?
A. Digitalized FriendshipB. The Benefits f Digital Life
C. Face-t-face CmmunicatinD. The Sacrifices f Online Friends
