Scientists fund what culd be the ldest evidence f cking at the edge f the ancient Lake Hula in Israel at the Gesher Bent Ya’aqv, accrding t a newly-published paper. The remains, especially fish teeth, were discvered near places where scientists als fund signs f fire. Tests shwed the teeth had been expsed t temperatures that were ht, but nt super-ht. This suggested the fish were cked slwly ver a lw heat, rather than being put right nt a fire.
With all the evidence tgether, scientists cncluded that these ancient humans had used fire fr cking sme 780,000 years ag. That is much earlier than the next ldest evidence fr cking, abut 170,000 years ag, which shwed Stne Age humans ate burnt rts in Suth Africa.
Scientists believe cking started lng befre this, thugh physical evidence has been hard t cme by —cnsidering the imprtance f using fire t ck. Cked fd makes it easier fr the bdy t digest and get mre nutrients. When early humans figured ut hw t ck, they were able t get mre energy, which they culd use t fuel bigger brains. Based n hw human ancestrs’ bdies develped, scientists guess that cking skills wuld have had t appear nearly 2 millin years ag.
Thse first cked meals were a far cry frm tday’s dinners. And at that time, humans started eating nt just fr fuel, but fr their cmmunity. In a 2010 paper, scientists described the earliest evidence f a feast(盛宴), which was a specially prepared meal that brught peple tgether fr an event in a cave. This “first feast” came at an imprtant turning pint in human histry, right as hunter-gatherers were starting t settle int mre permanent living situatins. Gathering fr special meals may have been a way t build cmmunity and reduce tensins nw that peple lived clser t each ther. Accrding t the agency, GM msquites carry tw types f genes: a self-limiting gene that prevents female ffspring (后代) frm surviving t adulthd; and a marker gene that allws researchers t identify GM nes in the wild. After being released, GM msquites lay eggs, s the genes are passed n t ffspring. In this way, the number f female msquites is reduced, therefre reducing the chance f spreading disease.
