Let me tell yu abut a yung by wh made a mdel car all n his wn. The by is me, six years ag when I was just 11．
The car was small and simple, but in my imaginatin it was a high-speed racing car, speeding alng the race rad. It was during the schl summer hlidays and wrkmen were building a new driveway and garage (车库) beside ur huse. It meant t add smething new t ur hme. T develp ne’s taste in English, the mst effective way is t read English bks widely. Yet ne may be at a lss t chse the prper bks, especially as a beginner. As a native Spanish, I wuld like t share sme f my reading experience.
My first English nvel was Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice, recmmended by many English teachers and prfessrs as an ideal bk fr English learners. But my experience was smewhat hrrible. I had great difficulty in understanding the nvel, let alne enjying it. It’s nt the vcabulary that trubled me, but rather the way Austen cnstructs sentences, and her way f thinking, which seemed rather unfamiliar t me at that time. My fading enthusiasm was much recvered after reading Hemingway’s nvel- A Farewell t Arms. N lng and puzzling sentences. And I particularly liked his brief style. Hwever, if yu limit yurself t nvels, yu will miss a lt f treasures. Besides, English essays als play a key rle. They can at nce infrm yu, entertain yu, and imprve yur taste in English. The best example is Bertrand Russell’s wrk. Its language is plain, yet yu cannt help feeling the elegance and the special sense f humr. His simple language enables his philsphy within the reach f rdinary peple. Therefre, here cmes my secnd suggestin-essays are als vital.
