The pht, as well as many thers, was taken by the Daniel K. Inuye Slar Telescpe in Hawaii, US. The phts were released earlier this year.
The high quality f the phts was made pssibly by a 4-meter-wide mirrr inside f the telescpe. It’s the wrld’s largest slar telescpe mirrr, accrding t EarthSky. “It is really the greatest leap (飞跃) in humanity’s ability t study the sun frm the grund since Italian astrnmer Galile’s time,” said astrnmer Jeff Kuhn f the University f Hawaii, US.
The greater quality f the images will allw scientists t study the sun mre deeply and discver mre f its mysteries. Fr example, scientists can mre accurately predict what we call “space weather”. The mvement f plasma (等离子体) n the sun’s surface can change the sun’s magnetic field (磁场). When this happens, a “slar strm” can break ut. These strms release pwerful bursts (迸发) f electrmagnetic (电磁的) energy that can affect us here n Earth by damaging pwer grids (电网) and satellites.
By predicting slar strms mre accurately, we can take steps t prtect urselves frm them. “ What we need is t understand the underlying physics behind space weather, and this starts at the sun, which is what the Inuye Slar Telescpe will study ver the cming decades,” said Matt Muntain f the Assciatin f Universities fr Research in Astrnmy (AURA), which manages the DKIST.
