Scientists in Australia have discvered that they can use the wrld's smelliest fruits t make devices that culd pwer electric cars．A durian(榴莲) is a fruit that lks like a pineapple．It is a delicacy(佳肴) in sme Asian cuntries，but its smell is s unpleasant that sme f thse cuntries have banned it frm public places．Its smell has been cmpared t rtten eggs and even smelly ld gym scks．
Vincent Gmes and his clleagues at The University f Sydney，in Australia，used durians and jackfruits—anther fruit knwn fr its terrible smell—t make energy-string devices called supercapacitrs．
Supercapacitrs are an alternative t batteries．They can't stre as much energy as a nrmal battery des，but they are much quicker t recharge．Durians and jackfruits cntain sme f the chemicals used in supercapacitrs，which gave Gmes the idea．T make the fruit-based devices，the team heated and then freeze-dried the uneatable cres f the durian and the jackfruit t make a special kind f material called an aergel．
Aergels are ne f the wrld's lightest slid materials．Often called “frzen smke”，they are made by remving the liquid frm a gel (胶状物) and replacing it with air．They have many scientific uses，and ne f their special prperties is the ability t cnduct electric currents，which makes them an imprtant part f supercapacitrs．The aergels made frm durians and jackfruits bth wrked well when placed inside a supercapacitr，althugh the durian aergel was fund t be the better f the tw．
The discvery is imprtant because the materials currently used t make supercapacitrs are expensive．Using natural fds like durians and jackfruits，Gmes says，culd reduce envirnmental pllutin as well as csts．
