    It was Christmas Eve when my elder sister and I decided t pen ur presents befre ur mm gt hme frm wrk. She usually came hme abut an hur after we gt hme frm schl, which we thught was plenty f time t sneak a lk (偷看) at the gifts under the tree.
    My elder sister pened present after present while I was rdered t stand guard at the big windw in ur frnt rm. Finally, when my sister’s curisity was satisfied, we changed places.

    Scientists reprt that peple in Sydney Australia are in a war with cckats (凤头鹦鹉). The birds have learned t pen the lids n trash bins (垃圾桶盖), and peple are figuring ut new ways t keep the lids clsed. But the clever birds are quickly discvering new tricks.
    Cckats are large, white birds in the parrt family. They’re cmmn in western Australia, where they nrmally live in wded areas. But as frests have been cut dwn, cckats have gtten used t living near peple.
    Last year, scientists at the Max Planck Institute reprted that cckats had learned hw t pen the lids n trash bins. Cckats pen the lids t find fd scraps (剩下的食物). But they can als make a big mess, which upsets the peple wh wn the trash bins.
    What really interested the scientists was that the birds were teaching ther cckats hw t d the same thing. When scientists first began studying the cckats in 2018, nly three areas near Sydney had lid-pening cckats. A year and a half later, cckats in 44 different areas knew the trick.

    In the US, many states that use water frm the Clrad River are struggling with lw water levels. Farmers in Califrnia and Arizna have been hit particularly hard.
