W: Hello everyone! Welcome to our program. So, today I’ll talk about some big shopping events and their history. The first one is Black Friday. This one dates back to the 1950s and falls on the Friday after Thanksgiving. Originally, it started as an event within stores. But now it’s an online and offline shopping festival. Cyber Monday is the Monday after Black Friday, and it’s only for online sales. It began in 2005. Now it’s more successful than Black Friday, earning a record $9.4 billion last year. Sales tend to be on expensive technology items, like computers. We’re all familiar with Singles Day. It dates back to the 1990s but didn’t become a shopping event until 2009. Since then, it’s become the biggest 24-hour sales event in the world. Last year, this shopping event earned $38.4 billion, beating out Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Prime Day is basically the North American version of Double 11. It was started in 2015. For shoppers like me that love small parts and home devices, Prime is a great time. But it still falls far behind Singles Day and only earned $7.16 billion last year.

Wherever she goes, Molly leaves her marks. Without saying a word, she speaks to people with her kind eyes. Even when she walks away, she leaves an impression. Molly’s mark is a smile, stamped into the ground by the horseshoe at the bottom of her false leg.
A few years ago, Molly was badly attacked by a dog. The dog bit all four Molly’s legs and left large cuts on her face. Molly’s owner, Kate Harris, took her to an animal hospital. Doctors there were able to save Molly’s life, but soon one of her legs became very infected.
At first, doctors thought Molly would not survive. But Molly changed their minds. This pony, as doctors noticed, shifted her weight, and rested her good legs from time to time. Doctors knew that Molly had amazing intelligence, and that she wanted to live.
Several doctors operated on Molly, and removed her infected leg. A false leg was made for her. The leg was a hollow cast with a pole at the bottom for balance. Doctors gave Molly a special horseshoe at the bottom of the leg. This horseshoe she had had a stamp of a smiling face in it!
After the operation, Molly walked around on all four legs, as if nothing had ever happened to her! Now, with every step she takes, she stamps a smile in the dirt. But she leaves her mark in other ways, too.
Kate Harris took Molly to the false leg center. There were children there who, like Molly, had artificial arms or legs. They were amazed to see a pony with a false leg. Molly made them smile and gave them hope. Soon, Molly began to visit schools, nursing homes, army bases and hospitals. A book was even written about Molly!

I have dreamt of taking a trip to Hawaii since I graduated, but the best thing always needs waiting. I took a trip with my friends to Haleakala National Park, which lies in Hawaii.
When we arrived at Haleakala National Park, we were advised to watch the early morning sunrise. I was lost in the sightseeing that afternoon, so I could hardly wait to see the sunrise. In the next morning, we all got out of bed very early and got to the seaside at 3 o'clock. In the first half an hour, we imagined how wonderful it would be when the first light came out through the thick clouds and how soft it would be when the light touched our skin, so we waited and waited. However, another half an hour later, I gradually lost my patience since there was nothing but the chilly darkness, and I felt that I was frozen to death. But my friends were still extremely cheerful.
Nearly another one hour later, “Amazing!” Judy burst out and we all shouted to welcome the light, which was really unbelievable. Until today, I dare say that it is the most impressive sunrise in my life. However, waiting in the morning darkness is also one memory I cannot wipe from my mind forever.
Waiting sometimes is really a hard thing for most of us as it needs patience and strong-willed determination but what about the result after that? It might turn out to be pleasing, unbelievable and satisfying. So, it is really worthwhile to wait for the best.
    28. What can we learn from the passage?
    A. The author’s friends and the author took a trip to China.
    B. Hawaii is a good place to enjoy the sunrise.
    C. The author enjoyed the worst sunrise in his life.
    D. Sometimes, it is worthwhile to wait for the best.
    29. When did they see the first light of the sunrise?
    A. At about 3 o'clock. B. At about 4 o'clock. C. At nearly 5 o'clock. D. At nearly 6 o'clock
    30. What’s the meaning of the underlined word in Paragraph 2?
    A. Total. B. Cold C. Terrible D. Interesting
    31. What’s the author’s attitude towards waiting for the sunrise?
    A. Excited all the time. B. Afraid all the time.
    C. Firstly excited then afraid. D. Firstly excited then impatient.
D 29. C 30. B 31. D
根据文章最后一段“Waiting sometimes is really a hard thing for most of us as it needs patience and strong-willed determination, but what about the result after that? It might turn out to be pleasing, unbelievable and satisfying. So, it is really worthwhile to wait for the best.”(等待有时候对我们大多数人来说真的是一件很困难的事情,它需要耐心和坚强的决心,但之后的结果呢?
根据文章第二段“In the next morning, we all got out of bed very early and got to the seaside at 3 o'clock. In the first half an hour, we imagined how wonderful it would be when the first light came out through the thick clouds and how soft it would be when the light touched our skin, so we waited and waited.”(第二天早上,我们很早就起床了,3点钟就到了海边。 以及“However, another half an hour later, I gradually lost my patience since there was nothing but the chilly darkness, and I felt that I was frozen to death.”(然而,又过了半个小时,我渐渐失去了耐心,因为除了寒冷的黑暗什么都没有,我觉得我已经被冻死了。) Judy burst out and we all shouted to welcome the light, which was really unbelievable.”(又过了一个小时,“太神奇了!”
根据划线词后面的“and I felt that I was frozen to death”(我感觉自己被冻死了)可知,天气寒冷,由此推知划线词的意思是“寒冷的”。
根据文章第二段“In the first half an hour, we imagined how wonderful it would be when the first light came out through the thick clouds and how soft it would be when the light touched our skin, so we waited and waited.”(在最初的半个小时里,我们想象着当第一缕阳光穿过厚厚的云层出来时是多么美妙,当阳光照射到我们的皮肤时又是多么柔软,于是我们等啊等啊。)可知,作者一开始是很兴奋期待的;根据下文“However, another half an hour later, I gradually lost my patience since there was nothing but the chilly darkness, and I felt that I was frozen to death. How much empathy (共鸣) do you feel toward other people? If you saw someone fall off their bike in traffic, would you stop and help, or just walk away? Many people would give in to coldness, go about their business and just do nothing. So it was a big surprise when about 100 bystanders got together recently to move a bus in East London to help a cyclist trapped under it. A video of the incident went viral on social media.
According to Zoheb, a driver who stopped his car to take part in the rescue, about five people gathered to move the bus. He says, “There was no chance we could do it; it was more an invitation for other people to help, really.”
The initiative (主动能力) paid off. Diners from nearby restaurants joined in. There wasn’t much coordination but it didn’t take long to develop a collective understanding of what the objective was.
Spontaneous (自发的) cooperation among strangers doesn’t happen often. People in a crowd are not sure what to do — they don’t have a plan. It’s one of the reasons why bystanders often do nothing, according to Dr. Mark Levine, professor of social psychology at the University of Exeter in Britain. “The presence of others can prevent you from helping,” he says.
“The key to positive group behavior,” Levine explains, “is building a sense of shared identity.” Action has to be decided quickly, Levine says. “The longer you leave it, the harder it is to make a decision. Then you kind of think ‘Well, actually I probably couldn’t have done anything anyway.’”
But the people who took the initiative like Zoheb might make a difference. The cyclist ended up in hospital and the images of the collective effort might inspire others to more acts of unity.
    32. Which of the following is TRUE when the incident happened in Paragraph 1?
    A. Few people paid attention to this.
    B. Many bystanders chose to do nothing.
    C. A number of people stopped to help.
    D. Many people felt little empathy to the incident.
    33. What does the writer mean by saying “The initiative paid off.” in Paragraph 3?
    A. Many people received an invitation to help.
    B. People lacked the sense of coordination.
    C. More people gathered to give a hand.
    D. Many people just went about their own business.
    34. What should people do when such an incident happens according to Levine?
    A. Wait for others to offer help first.
    B. Call on everybody present to take action.
    C. Leave the problem to professional rescuers.
    D. Build a sense of shared identity and act quickly.
    35. What can be learned from the text?
    A. Collective effort is inspiring.
    B. The cyclist fully recovered soon.
    C. The sense of shared identity makes no difference.
    D. It's impossible for strangers to cooperate.
C 33. C 34. D 35. A

根据后句“In fact, many things can be done as a part of your normal routine and cost little or nothing.”(事实上,很多事情都可以作为你日常生活的一部分,而且花费很少甚至不需要任何东西。) E.“It doesn’t have to take much time or money on your part.”(你不需要花很多时间和金钱。)中“take much time or money”和后句中的“cost little or nothing”相呼应。故选E。
3.根据后文“We have all been sick and know the last thing you want to do is being out of bed. There are also times when life is tough. You can be a great help by providing a meal that can be enjoyed.”(我们都曾经生过病,你最不想做的就是起床。 G.“Deliver a meal to someone you know that is sick or having a rough time.”(送餐给你认识的生病或有困难的人。)“Deliver a meal”与后文的“providing a meal”与相一致,故选G。
4.根据本段中心句“Ask a friend if you can take care of their kid for a day or an evening.”(问一个朋友,你是否可以照顾他们的孩子一天或一个晚上。)和前句“If you have been a parent, you know the value of being able to have a few hours of free time without worrying about the children.”(如果你曾经为人父母,你就会知道有几个小时的空闲时间而不用担心孩子的价值。)及后句“Offer to do it when the parents want to relax themselves.”(当父母想要放松自己的时候,主动提供帮助。) D.“Don’t wait to be asked to baby-sit when it is required.”(不要等到需要的时候才被要求照看孩子。)中的“babysit”与中心句中的“take care of their kid”相一致。故选D。
5.根据前文“Besides, there is one more way that cannot be ignored. Give a real smile to everyone you meet.”(另外,还有一个办法是不能忽视的,给你遇到的每个人一个真正的微笑。) F.“You will experience how easy it is to get others to smile!”(你会体验到让别人微笑是多么容易!)

根据“We were quite worried about him”可知,此处表示“想知道他发生了什么事”,此处为代词him。故将us改为him。
故将was改为were。
故在then后面加did。
