The little boy quietly went to his room. After about an hour or so, the man went to the boy’s room. “Are you sleeping, son?” he asked. “No, Dad.” the boy replied. “I’ve been thinking—maybe I was too hard on you earlier,” his father said. “Here’s the $30 you asked for.”
The little boy sat straight up with a smile. Then, reaching under his pillow, he took out $20 and slowly counted out his money, then looked up at his father and said, “Dad, I have $50 now. Can I buy an hour of your time? Please come home early tomorrow. I would like to have dinner with you.”

Children today would rather read, do housework or even do homework than play outside. They get out half as much as their parents did when they were young.
According to a UK study, those growing up during the 1970s and 1980s enjoyed more than two hours of outdoor activities each weekday, and nine hours on weekends—whatever the weather is. But their children play outside for just over one hour each weekday, and fewer than five hours on Saturday s and Sundays.
So, the UK started an activity to encourage children to give up 30 minutes of screen time a day to play outdoors.
The Wild Network, born on September 25, 2013, is joined by more than 300 organizations, large or small. It tries to attract children away from television and computer screen and into woods and parks.
It is the biggest ever activity to reconnect children with nature and outdoor activities, and it plans to help improve children’s health. Suggestions on how to get more time in nature include collecting fruits, camping, watching autumn colour on trees and so on.
This is not the first time that the message of less screen, more play has been brought up. Children in the 1980s were encouraged to do the same by BBC TV show Why Don’t You, which encouraged children to “turn off your TV set, and go to do something less boring instead”.
You can learn more about the activity by visiting http://www.Projectwildthing.com.
29. We can learn from the second paragraph that ________.
A. today’s children have more free time
B. today’s children spend more time outdoors

30. The Wild Network was started to ________.
A. encourage children to spend more time outdoors
B. encourage parents to spend more time with their children
C. encourage children to play with their parents outdoors
D. encourage children to spend more time on their studies
31. What can we learn about the Wild Network?
A. It was set up this year.
B. It was the best ever activity.
C. You can learn about it from the show Why Don’t You.
D. Both large organizations or small can join it.
32. Which of the following activities is not mentioned?
A. Bird watching B. Collecting fruits
C. Camping D. Autumn colour watching

Mom and Dad—they are two of the most important people in your life. They may influence you more than anyone else. It’s a parent’s job to love and guide kids. Most parents will do this as possible as they can, even when the “kids” grow up and have children of their own. Here are some ways you can stay close and build a strong relationship.
33 . Don’t do sports or watch TV by yourself. Ask your mom and dad to play with you, go outside together or read a book out loud. Try to spend more time together.
Share your feelings and ask for help. Many kids say they’d like their parents to help them when they are upset. But their mom or dad might not know that they are having a problem. So tell them if you’re sad or have a problem. 34
Be kind and caring. 35 You can brighten a parent’s day with a hug, a card, or a joke. It’s also lovely when a kid offers to help clean up his or her room without being asked. It is important to show that you care for each other.
Do your best at whatever you do. You don’t have to be perfect, but when you do your best, you make your parents proud. 36 Why? Because it lets them know they’re doing a good job.
A. They will be happy to help you.
B. Spend more time together.
C. It makes them happy to see how you’re turning into such a great kid.
D. And if your mom loves to read, you grow up carrying a book wherever you go.
E. Little things might mean a lot to your mom or dad.

Everyone has some experiences that he can’t forget. For me, the most unforgettable experience was making delicious dishes for my mother.
When I was eleven years old, I decided to cook some dishes for her on her birthday. I tried many times but failed. Especially when making fried eggs, I couldn’t control the temperature of the oil and several eggs got burned. However, I didn’t give up and finally I succeeded. Watching the delicious food on the table, my mother was moved to tears. She praised me and hugged me tightly, which made me feel happy and excited.
