Science and Technology camp above all emphasizes entertainment while teaching students about how websites are designed using various coding languages, rocket design, practical applications of math and physics, and how to build your own hydraulics system.

When I was in college, an acquaintance who had graduated a few years ago came back to visit for the weekend. As we walked around campus on Saturday night, he flung his hands into the cold air and exclaimed, “You guys are so lucky; you live a minute away from all your friends. You’ll never have this again.”
At that time, I thought it was kind of sad — a grown man longing for my life of university housing and late library nights. But his words have stuck with me in the years since. “In adulthood, as people grow up and go away, friendships are the relationships most likely to suffer,” my colleague Julie Beck wrote in 2015. Therefore, the older you get, the more effort it takes to maintain connections, because you don’t have as many built-in opportunities to see your friends every day.
The writer Jennifer Senior noted last year that the fact of our choosing friendships makes them both fragile and special. “You have to continually involve. That you choose it is what gives it its value,” she wrote. But that’s also what makes friendships harder to hold on to as our lives evolve.
It’s hard but not impossible. Senior notes that when it comes to friendship, “we are ritual-deficient. So we have to create them: weekly phone calls, friendship anniversaries, road trips, and so on.”
“Friendship is the rare kind of relationship that remains forever available to us as we age,” Senior writes. “It’s a defender against stasis (停滞期), a potential source of creativity and revival in lives that otherwise narrow with time.” It’s something worth choosing, over and over again.

Despite earning more than $100,000 in household income, many people feel that they are living month to month and that a loss of employment or sudden medical emergency could easily move them from the upper middle class to low income earners. This feeling of being on the “edge” of poverty, despite these levels of income, seems a bit ridiculous but it really comes down to easy credit, misunderstanding of their incomes and peer (同辈) group pressures.
Even in today’s tough economy, for those with six-figure incomes credit is easy to come by. Credit companies may have cut back offerings to those in lower income brackets (等级) due to the recent credit reforms, but there seems to be little or no effect on high income earners. Their being able to get credit without difficulty gives them a false sense of security that makes them spend way more than their incomes can afford. That’s why they accumulate credit card debt faster than average.
Many higher income earners feel like they are making lots of money now, and believe that they will continue to make big money. This may reduce their feeling that they need to watch their money carefully now. Hand in hand with that, many of them probably believe that they are making more money than they really are — or said another way, the money they make will go farther than it really does.
Meanwhile, many young professionals who are earning good incomes don’t come from particularly privileged backgrounds, and their reference point may be that they are making twice (or more) than their parents were — so they spend like that as well. They don’t take account of the effect of inflation (通货膨胀), which means that the cost of living is much higher than that in their parents’ generation. Further, the more you earn, the more you pay in tax. Rather than focusing on after-tax incomes, many high income earners only look at the top line figures. A $100,000 income before tax is only about $70,000 after tax.

It’s not hard to be poetic about the broad and deep benefits of spending time in natural spaces,from amazing national parks to the simple loveliness of a walk around a city park or tree-lined neighborhood street, and some time working in the dirt of your own garden.
A new study from researchers at Clemson University has found another benefit to simply putting your body in a natural space: it can lower the amount of money you spend on health care.
“The mechanisms linking nature and health are very diverse,” said Matthew H. E. M. Browning, the principal investigator on the study, "but the benefit is believed to be in part because being in green space can decrease stress, promote healthy behaviors and enable you to breathe fresh air.”
Browning and his team used satellite data to investigate how much green space was within 250,500 and 1,000 meters(820,1,640,and 3,280 feet) of five million northern California residents who were insured by Kaiser Permanente. They then determined the costs the insurance company paid out to those same members over a two-year period. They took into account age,gender,race and a number of neighborhood characteristics including population density and education levels.
Even with all these factors included into their analysis, the researchers found that those who lived near the most green space had an average of $374 less per year in health care expenses compared to those who lived farther from natural spaces.
The researchers hope their findings will support public policies that prioritize(优先考虑) natural elements in residential areas. Despite earning more than $100,000 in household income, many people feel that they are living month to month and that a loss of employment or sudden medical emergency could easily move them from the upper middle class to low income earners. This feeling of being on the “edge” of poverty, despite these levels of income, seems a bit ridiculous but it really comes down to easy credit, misunderstanding of their incomes and peer (同辈) group pressures.
Even in today’s tough economy, for those with six-figure incomes credit is easy to come by. Credit companies may have cut back offerings to those in lower income brackets (等级) due to the recent credit reforms, but there seems to be little or no effect on high income earners. Their being able to get credit without difficulty gives them a false sense of security that makes them spend way more than their incomes can afford. That’s why they accumulate credit card debt faster than average.
Many higher income earners feel like they are making lots of money now, and believe that they will continue to make big money. This may reduce their feeling that they need to watch their money carefully now. Hand in hand with that, many of them probably believe that they are making more money than they really are — or said another way, the money they make will go farther than it really does.
Meanwhile, many young professionals who are earning good incomes don’t come from particularly privileged backgrounds, and their reference point may be that they are making twice (or more) than their parents were — so they spend like that as well. Once home, I placed the necklace in my special spot for special things, lost in thought. So far, there were a variety of things like mini cola bottles and shakers. I stared at the stone, so clean and polished. Could it be Chrissy’s? Was it a very special necklace? Should I return it to her? I paced back and forth in the room anxiously, not knowing what to do. Having struggled for a long time, I finally decided to call the number on the poster and get in touch with Chrissy. I told her that I might have something that belonged to her and made an appointment with her.
Fifteen minutes later, I was sitting across from Chrissy in the candy shop. We were drinking milkshakes and sharing an order of sweet potato fries. Looking at the blue stone in her hand with her tearful eyes, she told me that the necklace was a gift from her mom before she got sick and she was grateful to me for returning the necklace to her. “Holding onto it somehow makes things a little better.” she said.
