Turn a book down and hold it up to a mirror. Now try to read the words. With the letters upside down, it’s very difficult to understand. Many people with dyslexia(阅读困难症) see words on the pages this way. Certain letters might look backwards or upside down or the words might seem to “jump” around.

Dyslexia is a condition that influences a person’s ability to read, write, spell, and listen. Rachel Carson(1907­1964) 蕾切尔·卡逊 was a pioneer of the world's environmental movement through her writing about the protection of the natural world. Her 1962 book Silent Spring made her well known by many people. It describes the harmful changes in the environment of using toxic(有害的) chemicals on farmland.

Carson's career started as a biologist in the US Bureau of Fisheries. In 1951 she published her first book, The Sea Around Us, which became a bestseller. In our culture, the ability to make one's own decisions is important.

In today's world, we are being presented with information, ideas and beliefs, but many of them are against each other. Psychology tells us that if we hear an idea many times, or it comes from someone we respect, we will probably believe that idea. In these cases, we base our opinions on the opinions of others.
