Beyonce, holding the title of Queen Bey, is now the most-winning female artist, and the most-winning singer, in the 63-year history of the Grammy Awards. She earned 28 trophies(奖杯) including this Sunday's wins for best music video for "Brown Skin Girl" and best rap performance for her "Savage" cooperation with Megan Thee Stallion. She walked into the show with nine nominations(提名), more than anyone else this year.
“As an artist, I believe it's my job, and all of our jobs, to picture the era. It's been such a difficult time,” she said in her acceptance speech “So I wanted to sing high praise for all the great artists that continue to inspire me and inspire the whole world. This is so overwhelming.” she continued.
Beyonce's Grammy-grabbing music career has continued more than 20 years. While Beyonce doesn't even need two names to be recognized, she has many names and identities taking her to Grammy glory. As a young superstar with girl group Destiny's Child, she scored awards for "Say My Name" and "Survivor." She played the legendary Etta James in the film "Cadillac Records," landing her best traditional R&B performance for "At Last".
She is the activist and historian telling the stories of Black people through her award-winning "Formation" music video and visual album "Lemonade". She, with her husband Mr. Carter, put their love story on display with the album "Everything is Love," and she is the director, producer, star of "Homecoming." The combination of all these things makes her today's Grammy legend.

A new study found some primates (灵长类) are leaving their tree homes and spending more time on the ground. Led by Timothy Eppley, Ph.D., scientists studied nearly 50 species of monkeys and lemurs (狐猴) to look at the reason behind these changes.
About 15 years ago, Eppley worked with southern bamboo lemurs, which were known to spend most of their days in the trees, feeding on bamboo leaves. However, he was surprised to find these lemurs were spending most time on the ground and had an incredibly diverse diet. He wondered whether habitat reduction and limited food resource availability were driving them move to the ground. This inspired him to begin this study.
He reached out to every researcher he could find who may have significant data on primates from Madagascar or the Americas, the two places with almost all tree-dwelling primates.
Eppley examined more than 150,000 hours of data observed on 32 monkey species and 15 lemur species at 68 sites. He found that they spent an average of only 2.5% of their time on the ground each month. But the findings showed some interesting differences.
“As habitats are degraded and the climate worsens, primates that are flexible enough to adapt because of their diverse diets or live in larger groups may be more likely to shift to life on the ground,” Eppley says. “However, other species that rely on fruit diets or live in small groups are less adaptable and are less willing to leave the tree. For these species, we will still need to enforce(强制执行) fast and effective conservation strategies to ensure their survival.”
Although moving to the ground has some advantages in certain situations, primates can face problems when they leave the trees. They can become victims of other animals and diseases. Besides, they will be faced with finding appropriate food resources on the ground, thus having a broad or flexible diet is important. Primates are important seed spreaders within their forest habitats. The loss of primates would lead to negative effects on the ecosystem.
    28. Why did Timothy Eppley begin his study?
    A. To try to make primates more adaptive.
    B. To study how monkeys differ from lemurs.
    C. To figure out the reason for the loss of bamboo.
    D. To find out why primates are turning to the ground.
    29. How did Timothy Eppley carry out his research?
    A. By doing experiments. B. By observing in the wild.
    C. By studying collected data. D. By interviewing the locals.
    30. Which kind of primates are more likely to come down from trees?
    A. Those eating diverse diets. B. Those with a large size.
    C. Those feeding mainly on fruits. D. Those living in small groups.
    31. What will become a concern according to the study?
    A. Animals will become less adaptive.
    B. The forest ecosystem will become worse.
    C. More natural habitats will be lost.
    D. More animal-related diseases will appear.
    D
It takes a lot of energy to keep buildings comfortably cool in hot parts of the world. As it comes through windows, sunshine is a big source of heat in buildings, explains Tengfei Luo, an engineer at the University of Notre Dame.
Sunlight contains both the visible(可见的) light that we can see and the light our eyes can’t see. Both types can pass through glass. Luo and his team set out to design a clear coating(涂层) that blocked the invisible light, which has a warming effect. Extra-thin layers of materials like silicon dioxide and titanium dioxide can interact with light in ways that help. But none could do it all. So his team decided to layer such materials, like a pile of pancakes. Knowing how to perfect the layer and ordering of layers can get really complicated as the number of layers increases. Unless, that is, you have a quantum(量子) computer.
The team chose four promising materials. They pile up those materials in very thin layers, and in any order. There can be up to 24 layers. Among all possible arrangements, they record which worked best at keeping heat out but letting in visible light.
It turns out that there were hundreds of billions of possible arrangements. A traditional computer would take millions of years to evaluate them, but a quantum computer can evaluate them in less than a second. It can take thousands of cycles of measuring and improving the program to get to an answer. The result was a surprisingly clear coating highly transparent to visible light.
The coating uses common, inexpensive materials. It requires no foreign techniques. A sample test shows after a day and a half in hot climate, it kept a test room 6 degrees Celsius cooler than an untreated window, cutting the energy used to cool buildings by close to one-third.
Luo sees potential for widespread use of this glass coating in hot climates. To seriously address climate change, energy-efficient buildings are a must.
    32. How does the coating designed by Luo’s team work?
    A. By trapping visible light inside the house.
    B. By stopping invisible light from entering through the window.
    C. By controlling the amount of light entering the room.
    D. By allowing both visible and invisible light to pass through glass.
    33. What does them in paragraph 4 referred to?
    A. different layers. B. coating functions.
    C. layer arrangements. D. suitable materials.
    34. What can be inferred about the final design of the coating?
    A. It works effectively. B. It’s widely used.
    C. It comes in several varieties. D. Its cost remains to be reduced.
    35. What’s the best title for the text?
    A. Apply This Coating to Your Windows to Heat Your House
    B. Think of This New Tech as Sunglasses for Our Windows
    C. Develop New Energy to Keep Buildings Comfortably Cool
    D. Build Energy-Efficient Buildings to Address Climate Change

    根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
School's out for the day. But what should you do with the kids? 36 Public school teacher and blogger Chelly Wood believes that "it's important for kids to get at least one hour of playtime after school, regardless of age. That's 'real' playtime, but not for video games or TV programs." Here are some creative after-school activities for kids.
    Design a comic strip(连环漫画).
This is a great indoor activity for kids of all ages and is sure to get the creative juices flowing as children invent characters and story lines. 37 Measuring the strip boxes can also add an educational element to the activity.
    Become a scientist.
Grab a notebook and a pencil and head outside. Whether in your backyard, a park or a playground, spot a bird or other animals and pretend your kids are scientists. 38
    Recycle objects.
39 Transform a cereal(麦片)box into something that flies or into a mask. Use the cereal box as a prompt to think through where the box came from and how it was made. This activity is great for understanding the world in which we live, how things are made, etc.
    40
Are your neighbors celebrating a victory or have they been sick or out of town? No reason is really necessary to have your kids give a hand to someone else. Bake cookies, make a card or plant some flowers in a pot. The possibilities are endless.

    书面表达
Nowadays, many high schools encourage and organize students to take part in social practice activities. In order to encourage the students to develop a love for labouring and help raise awareness of protecting our environment, as scheduled, an activity themed with Campus Labor Week was held by our school on May 4st.
All the students took an active part in it. We got on our school bus at about 8 o’clock at school gate and arrived at the farm at about 10 o’clock in the morning. Then, the whole classes were divided into different groups, each of which had different tasks. Everyone of us spared no effort to do what we can to help these farmers. Exhausted as we felt, we were greatly satisfied, for we have really done some good deeds, which also provided a chance for us to further understand the hardship of the farmers.
Not only can the event enrich our school life, but also offer us valuable opportunities to learn more daily practical skills. It was a day well spent, meaningful and instructive, from which we benefit both physically and mentally.

W: Are you serious? You can get this anywhere. How about this box of chocolates? They’re not local, but they’re nice.
    M: OK. I’ll take it.
    (Text 7)
W: Northwind Airways. May I help you, sir?
M: Yes, do you have any flights to Sydney next Tuesday afternoon?
W: Let me see. There’s a flight at 16:45 and one at 18:00. Which kind of ticket do you want, economy, business class or first class ticket? And which flight?
M: Well, I’d like to get a return flight on the economy class(经济舱), please.
W: That would be 346 euros. Which flight would you like?
    M: The 16:45, please.
W: Could I have your name, please?
M: My name is Robert Jones.
W: How would you like to pay, Mr. Jones?
M: Can I pay at the check-in desk when I pick up my ticket?
W: Yes, but you will have to confirm this reservation at least two hours before departure(出发)time. Now Mr. Jones, your flight leaves at 16:45, and arrives in Sydney at 9:25 a. m. local time.

W: Wow, what a beautiful view!
M: Look to the east. We can see the Children’s Palace Building!
W: Oh, is that the lake in the central park?
M: Yes, it is. And further out we can see the center of the city.
    W. It sure is breathtaking! I’m glad we came here on a clear day. You know, I’m really glad I came to your hometown. It’s a very nice city, very “livable”.
M: I’m really glad we came here today. We’ve had a great time together!
W: But you need to get into better shape(形状,体型), so we can do this kind of thing more often.
M: I guess you’re right... Hey, I have an idea... Why don’t you teach me how to play tennis? Then we can spend lots more time together!
    (Text 9)
M: Hi, Jane. What are you looking for?
W: Hi, Carl. I’m looking for a pair of dancing shoes. You know, I’m taking dancing classes now.
    M: Where are the classes?
W: At the local community center. I’m really enjoying it.
M: What kind of dance are you learning?
W: We’re learning a few different types of dance. So far, we have learned ballet, modern, and tap. Of all the types, tap dance is my favorite. Ballet was pretty hard.
M: Sounds like a lot of fun. My sister Shelley is thinking of joining you in your class, but I fear it’s already full. Besides, she fears she may be too old to learn dance lessons. She’s fifteen, though.
W: No, our class isn’t full. You can schedule a time for her to come to one of our classes. The first visit is free. We have our lessons every Monday evening at 7 p.m.
M: OK. I’ll ask her to go next Monday. Please help her a bit. She’s a terrible dancer.
W: Me too. That’s why I’m taking lessons.

On November 15, 2022, the United Nations reported that the world’s population reached eight billion. Just 11 years earlier, the world reached seven billion people. The world’s population has grown rapidly over the last 200 years. In 1805, the Earth had a billion people, and now it has eight billion. Typically, as countries become richer, their population growth slows. In some countries, like Japan, the number of people is actually cutting down(减少). Experts say India will pass China as the country with the largest population. As its population grows, some experts say adding more people to the world will make global warming worse. But the real problem is the energy used and pollution created by richer countries where population growth is much slower.
