When you are busy with school work and making friends, do you envy (羡慕) babies? Although they don’t seem to care about anyone or anything, a study says this may not be the truth.
Two-year-old babies care about how others see them. They even try to manage their image (形象) when others are around them, according to scientists from Emory University in the US.
Scientists did tests on 144 babies from the ages of 14 to 24 months. They showed the babies a robot with two buttons (按钮) on it. When the babies pressed the buttons, the scientists gave them the feedback (反馈). When the babies pressed the first button, the scientists would act happily and praise the baby. But when the babies pressed the second button, the scientists would pretend to be unhappy.
They found that when there were no adults around, children would press the second button more often. But when adults were watching, they would press the first button more often.
Older children and adults tend to show the different kind of behavior. When others are watching, they tend to behave better. When no one is paying attention, they behave badly, Sara Valencia Botto, the author of the study, told the Telegraph.
Studies before found that children start to care about what others think of them around the age of 4. But this new study suggests that the age is earlier. In addition, 2-year-old children will change their behavior actively, Botto said.
16.In the test, the babies press the first button because ________.

18.The text is most probably from ________.
    A.Traveling Blog B.Science Newspaper

One of my earliest memories is playing “shops” with my granddad when I was 5. After leaving school at 15, I worked in a fruit shop, but I had no dream to run my own shop back then.
Several years later, I got married. My husband Eric and I bought a shop in the nearby village. That was January 1973. We were a bit fresh at shop keeping, so we often didn’t know what the customers were asking for. But we soon learned.
You can tell by the weather how busy it’s going to be. On wet days there are very few people around, and when it’s snowy people want bread and milk, as they’ re worried about being snowed in. When it’s hot, everyone buys cold drinks and ice cream.
More people shop online nowadays, but they still come here for things missing from their order. I’ve kept up with technology and have a card reader, but the shop itself hasn’t changed much.
Now, as I’m getting older, it’s open from 7 am to 6 pm on weekdays, instead of closing at 8:30 pm. I open until 2 pm at weekends.
Eric passed away 16 years ago, but I never considered closing the shop. I love it all—talking to the customers and getting what they want. There are customers coming in three or four times a day, and we see several generations of families. Customers often tell me their problems and I offer advice if I can.
It was the 50th anniversary of the shop on January 13 this year. I wanted to do something special, so I held a party and had drinks and snacks with customers. I also wrote a book about my memories in the shop. It’s called Just Ask Jenny, as I’m always the first port of call when anyone wants to know anything.
This shop has been my life. I never imagined I’d still be here after 50 years, but I love it and the people. That’s what keeps me going.
19.What do we know about the writer’s shop?
A.Her grandfather passed it down to her.
B.She started it up with her husband.
C.She dreamed of it when she was young.
D.She knew the business well from the beginning.
20.What does the writer enjoy most from shop keeping?
A.The connection with her customers. B.The freedom of closing at any time.
C.Getting help from the customers. D.Making money to raise her family.
21.What does the writer plan to do?
A.Write about stories from the shop.
B.Write another book Just Ask Jenny.
    C.Continue running her shop.
D.Celebrate the next anniversary of the shop.

Stepping into Beijing’s One Art Museum during the May Day holiday, visitors were transported back to China in the 1980s and 1990s. The photos there included black-and-white TVs, old bicycles, comic books, simple and lively playgrounds, as well as youngsters in clothes that would be considered common by today’s standards.
At the heart of the show were 88 photographs taken by Italian photographer, Andrea Cavazzuti, during the 1980s and 1990s. It shows the common life at that time, so came the show’s title: “At Eye Level.” Cavazzuti’s photo better reflects people’s living conditions and their spirit during that period, said the director of the exhibition.
Cavazzuti’s love for China began in Italy, when he entered the Ca’Foscari University of Venice to study Chinese. “The square characters interested me and reading China’s ancient poems was especially interesting,” he said.
In 1981, Cavazzuti came to China for a short period of study, and the following year he studied at Fudan University in Shanghai. Since then, he has formed a connection with the foreign land.
After graduation, he traveled around the beautiful mountains and rivers of China carrying his camera. He took in the colorful folk customs of the locals, and recorded China that was little known to the wider world at that time. After China entered the period of reform (改革) and opening-up, and Chinese people started becoming wealthier, Cavazzuti began to record the changes in their daily lives.
“Some foreigners take photos with the thought of their creativity, which is not good for showing a real China,” Cavazzuti said. “Treat yourself as an ordinary member of the environment. In this way, you can easily spot the beauty nearby”.
The Italian has also followed local art performers and inheritors (继承人) of traditional folk culture across China to record the scenes that are disappearing. He believes that the country still remains its colorful culture, which is worth recording with his camera.
22.It can be learnt from the passage that Cavazzuti ________.
A.began to study Chinese after he came to China
B.recorded China with his camera after graduation
C.traveled to many foreign places after 1981
    D.successfully held 88 photo shows
23.Cavazzuti’s works are regarded as “eye-level” because they ________.
A.show the real China B.spread foreigners’ ideas about China
C.search for the old fashion D.introduce the long history of China
24.From the last Paragraph, Cavazzuti expects to ________.
A.improve the environment of China B.teach people to record the beauty around
C.keep the colorful culture of China D.meet the standard of the international level

At least 75% of the people I meet get my name wrong. And I know I’m not the only person who deals with this. I guess you’ve pronounced someone’s name wrong before, realized it, and experienced a long moment of awkwardness — a moment you’d like to never enjoy.
While I can’t tell you there’s some magic methods that’ll make it possible to always get it right, there are some tricks that can help. Here’s what I suggest you do:
Phone a Friend. Do you have a connection in common with someone you know well? Simply pick up the phone and ask how to pronounce the person’s name. As long as you keep it respectful and let the person know why you’re asking  (“I’d hate to go into the meeting tomorrow and offend (冒犯) our client,” or “I’m a bit nervous for the interview and didn’t get a chance to ask”), he or she’s probably happy to help out.
Really Listen During the Introduction. The best time to catch someone’s name is during your first communication. So, be on full alert (警觉) when you know the chance is coming, rather than focusing on other things, like how you look or what to say next. Then, as soon as you have a chance, write down quickly the pronunciation in your phone so you don’t forget. Just make sure to do this casually (漫不经心地) — and not right in front of the person.
Just Ask Politely. An uncommon name to you may be very common to someone else. That means you don’t start with, “I’ve never seen this name before” or “Whoa, not even going to try to say your name.” Instead, be open and honest and try these: “I want to make sure I get your name right — how do you say it?” “Can you tell me how to properly pronounce your name?” It’s less possible someone will get upset if he or she knows you’re trying to get it right, and not trying to be rude.
25.The underlined word “awkwardness” in Paragraph 1 most probably means ________.
    A.pity B.sadness C.embarrassment D.surprise
26.From Paragraph 3, our friends will be probably happy to help out if we ________.
A.call up them sometimes B.listen carefully on the phone
C.offer them some presents D.tell reasons why calling them
27.Which of the following can help to avoid pronouncing names wrong?
A.Asking the person honestly to repeat the name.
B.Telling the person you have never seen the name before.
C.Thinking about what to say next during the introduction.
D.Writing down the pronunciation in front of the person.
28.Why does the writer write the passage?
A.To show the importance of asking for help politely.
B.To give advice on how to get someone’s name right.
C.To share his experiences of pronouncing names wrong.
D.To express unhappiness when people get his name wrong.
