    What kind of reader are you? “Reading comprehension” refers to (指) how much you understand about what you read.
    Top readers usually read at a speed of above 1,000 words per minute (wpm) with near 85% comprehension. Common readers only reach around 200 wpm with near 60% comprehension.
    Why is reading difficult?

    I have a lot of headaches because there are so many new words that I don’t know. This makes reading really difficult.

    Besides new words, I have trouble understanding the long sentences. Maybe I should learn more about grammar, at least as many sentence pat-terns as possible.
    How can you increase your reading speed? Before you read, you should look over the text quickly without actually reading every word. Get some basic information by looking over the text quickly. For example, you can check if there are titles (标题) or subtitles and how many paragraphs there are. While you’re reading, try to get main ideas and key information instead of what each word exactly means. And try to understand the writer between the lines. After you read, ask yourself some questions like these: What is the text about? What are the most important things that happened in the text? What have I learned form it? In this way, you can check your comprehension of what you have read.

    Learning to read is about more than just reading the words! The more you read, the better you’ll be at reading.
