The boss learned that Jack’s academic achievements were very good all the way,from the middle school until university.Never had a year when he did not receive prizes.
The boss asked,“Did you have any part-time jobs in school?” Jack shook his head and said,“No,I didn’t have part-time jobs.” The boss went on and asked,“Was it your father who paid for your school fees?” Jack replied,“My father passed away when I was one year old.It was my mother who worked and paid for my school fees.”
The boss continued,“Where did your mother work?” Jack told him that his mother worked as a clothes cleaner.Every day she would carry baskets of clothes home.After washing and ironing the clothes,she carried the baskets back to the store where she got paid.
Then the boss politely requested Jack to show his hands to him.Jack was confused and he showed his hands in front of the boss,a pair of hands that were smooth and perfect.The boss asked again,“Jack,have you ever helped your mother wash the clothes before?” Jack answered,“Never.My mother always wanted me to study and read more books.Besides,my mother can wash clothes faster than me.”
The boss smiled and said,“Jack,I am satisfied with your performance in the interviews,but I have another request.When you return home tonight,go and clean your mother’s hands,and then come to see me tomorrow morning.”

“May I go and help carry it to the poor,little children?” asked Beth,who had the tenderest heart.
“I can carry the lassy pot,” said little May,proudly giving the thing she loved best.
“And I shall take all the porridge,” I burst in,heartily ashamed of my first feeling.
“You shall put on your things and help me,and when we come back,we’ll get something to eat,”said Mother,beginning to pile the bread and butter into a big basket.

Desperate,the caller had Googled “Nashville helicopter”,and Boyers’ company,Helistar Aviation,was the first to pop up.She begged Boyers to rescue her loved ones.
Boyers,41,looked west towards Waverly and saw the storm clouds.“Ma’am,” he said,“no one will fly in this weather,and for good reason.”
But before he finished the sentence,somehow,he decided he would come to rescue.He told the woman he would see what he could do and put the brother’s address into his phone,then he drove back to the airport.Soon,he was in the air,unprepared for what he was about to see in Waverly.As soon as he flew over,it was nothing but raging water below him.There were cars in trees.Tons of debris(残骸).No one was going to swim in that.Instead,people were holding tightly to anything that didn’t move—roofs,trees,poles.
The flooding also cut off cellphone service,meaning Boyers couldn’t use his phone to locate the house he was looking for.He flew on anyway.He also began searching for people standing on rooftops,bridges—anywhere Boyers could land.

I had too many groceries.I asked him if he’d like to go ahead of me.It wasn’t an act of kindness on my part,also not my automatic reaction.Perhaps I just did out of a sense of guilt,or I just wanted him gone.After all,his presence made me uncomfortable.In the same way,I felt uncomfortable and avoided my eyes when passing a homeless person.
He didn’t respond to me as if I had said nothing to him.I looked at him and repeated my words.This time,I was sure that he had heard what I said.

To have a good sleep habit,at first,we should keep a good sleep pattern and follow it strictly.Second,it’s highly recommended that we go to sleep before 10 p.m.If we have had trouble falling asleep for a long time,we should consult a doctor.

As is known to all,labor is a necessity for a student’s growth.At present,most students live in cities and rarely have opportunities to truly experience labor,resulting in lack of labor education.Through labor,students can cultivate correct labor viewpoints and develop labor habits,which will contribute to students’ overall development.
In my spare time,I’d like to help my parents do varieties of housework at home.Besides,I often volunteer to do some cleaning work for the elderly at the nursing home.
In view of many benefits of labor to students,I suggest that we should regularly take part in a wide range of labor so that we can become well-rounded.

With May and Beth carrying the pot and I holding the porridge,we closely trailed Mom.We plodded forward in the harsh wind and heavy snow.Then appeared a shabby house and in we popped.What greeted our eyes shocked us:at one end of the bed huddled six kids shivering with cold and at the other lay a weak woman who just gave birth to a fragile child.Dirty pans and pots scattered about,with cockroaches creeping on the cracked floor.

Ⅱ.　　SuddenlyBoyersnoticedagirlholdingatreetightly.The girl,who was soaking wet and exhausted,was barely out of the water.She clutched a tree limb.Since there was no place for Boyers to land,he lowered the helicopter until it hovered just above the water line,where he helped the girl to the helicopter.Boyers carefully lifted off.Maneuvering around the tree and power lines,he dropped off the girl on a patch of land across the street.Then he went back in the air.
Withthepeoplebesidehim,Boyersfelthewasrowingalifeboatintheair.Suddenly,there was a gust of wind,and the helicopter shifted.Boyers tried his best to regain control of the helicopter.When professional rescue choppers showed up,the helicopter of Boyers was almost out of fuel after rescuing 17 people.As for the woman who originally contacted Boyers,she called back to say that her brother and his daughters had also been saved and showed her appreciation.

The trails of life are of great importance in our growth.Only by confronting difficulties in our life can we become strong and mature.
I would never forget the tough period after I entered senior high school.It was the first time that I had lived away from my home,and I found it difficult to follow a fast-paced schedule in high school.I was frustrated,feeling stressed and hopeless.Instead of giving up,I managed to cheer up and confronted the hardship with perseverance and courage.The difficulties I came across have now become a precious memory in my life.
As the saying goes,“No cross,no crown.” The trials of life actually serve as a stepping stone to a brilliant future!
