    一、完形填空

Adam’s class had to work in pairs for a project—find a special way to show the similarities and differences between plants and animals and present it four days later.

Adam was     1     when Mrs. Tyler placed him with Toby. They had never spent much time together and had nothing in common. Adam was crazy about electricity,     2     Toby wanted to be an artist.

After Mrs. Tyler finished assigning(分配)partners, every     3     sat together and started discussion, except Adam and Toby. They remained     4    , not knowing where to scan. At last Adam said “Let’s     5     something that uses electricity.”

“What docs electricity have to do with plants and animals? We need pictures or models.” Toby didn’t     6    . By the end of the morning, they hadn’t had the same opinion.

On the bus ride home, Adam sat front alone,     7     the morning’s discussion. He had lots of ideas in his mind, but he knew that he and Toby had to work     8     a team. Toby sat back and felt the same way. Finally, Adam walked to Toby and said, “We need to find an idea that could combine(结合)our two     9    .” Toby nodded and then invited Adam to his house.

When Adam walked into Toby’s bedroom, he was surprised to see the room full of sculptures(雕刻)and paintings. Then suddenly Adam cried out, “I know     10     to do our project! Why not make a plant and cat sculpture with some lights?” Toby said it was perfect. So     11     of them couldn’t wait to get started.

When it was time to present, they placed their special sculptures on the table, Toby talked about plants and cats     12    . As he described the similarities, Adam made red lights shine in the right places in the sculpture. When Toby pointed out the differences, yellow lights shone. The presentation turned out to be a     13    . Mrs. Tyler clapped and the class cheered. “We’ve      14      something,” said Adam and Toby later. “It’s not just plants and animals that have similarities as well as differences. We do, too! And the differences sometimes can make things     15    .”

The carvings were once commonly found on either side of main entrance of Minnan’s buildings. However, with development, the number of ancient red brick buildings has decreased, and Minnan’s brick carving have gradually disappeared from sight, said Wu Jiandong, a young master brick carver from Fujian’s Quanzhou City.

The 42-year-old carver has learned the traditional skill and now connected it with modem tastes to develop his style of brick carving. Wu said that he hoped to be able to help the traditional craft continue through innovation.

“Market requirements have changed in recent years, and so has our thinking,” Wu said. “We must add modem elements(元素) to help pass down and develop traditional crafts(工艺).”

People in Minnan love tea, so Wu created a series of carved brick tea decorations, including tea plates, cup holders, pot holders and other items. They have been warmly received by local people and foreign visitors.

Earlier this year, a pendant(挂件) decorated with a swallow tail ridge and a bright moon was bought by an overseas Chinese man from the Philippines. The customer told Wu that he would hang the pendant in his office as a reminder of the buildings and the moon of his hometown.

Because of the markers praise of his work. Wu will be able to pass down the craft and further develop his pieces, and the popularity of short videos has also given his new hopes of spreading Minnan brick carvings.

Cameroon (喀麦隆) is experimenting with Africa’s first mobile system to send a bean signal (信号) over a wireless network. The system will give much needed medical aid to heart patients in poor areas. Arthur Zang invented the device called the Cardiopad (触屏医疗平板电脑). He was just 24 years old when he invented it. The Cardiopad allows heart examinations to be performed. The results of the tests are sent wirelessly to experts in other pans of the country who can understand them.

Simplice Momo is a 55-year-old heart patient in a poor area of the country. He says the device saves his time and money. It is too costly and difficult for him to see a heart expert in the city.

Cameroon has a population of about 22 million. But it only has 40 heart surgeons. Most are in the cities of Douala or Yaounde. Sometimes the heart experts needed can only be found outside the country. Now the device allows doctors to send patients’ medical information to experts in Europe.

Arthur Zang started the Cardiopad project five years ago. Then, the young computer engineer needed more training and $45.000 to make the device. His family did not have the money.

Bankers would not give him loans (资款). So he shared his idea on social media. The president of Cameroon, Paul Biya, provided him with the money for the project. Mr. Zang also received free online training from an engineering school in India.

The Cameroon scientific community considers the Cardiopad extremely effective. The device costs about $4,000. The government of Cameroon has not been able to provide the device for hospitals in need.

Mr. Zang says he has had private investors (投资者) who contact him. But he is more interested in investors who agree with his value. The key is not of money, but of better ways to help save people’s lives.

36According to Paragraph 1, we can know that ________.

ACameroon is the inventor of the Cardiopad

Bthe Cardiopad is a medical device to treat heart patients

CArthur Zang is a computer engineer and a heart expert

Dthe Cardiopad can send medical information to faraway experts.

37The underline word “surgeons” most probably means ________ in this passage.

    Apatients Bdoctors Cbankers Dmanagers

38The Cardiopad project was supported by ________.

Asome private investors Bthe bankers in Cameroon

Cthe Cameroon scientific community DPaul Biya and an engineering school in India

39We can infer (推断) from the passage that________.

Athe Cardiopad costs the patients much but very useful

BArthur Zang has no interest in private investors

Cit is very expensive for patients to see a heart expert in Cameroon

Dthe Cameroon scientific community provided Arthur Zang with $4,000

40Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?

AThe Cardiopad is widely used in Cameroon now.

BArthur Zang is more interested in helping people instead of making money.

CThe Cardiopad is very effective and has been provided to those hospitals.

DThe Cardiopad sends the patients’ medical information to experts around the world.

    五、阅读还原7选5

Now pollution problems are hot topics. We know many things have led to the problems. Tons of plastic bottles, plastic straws(吸管)and metal cans are produced. These things are difficult to clear up.     51     However, more and more people have realized this problem and chosen to “green”. Both the customers and the companies are changing in some ways.

On the one hand, customers hope that the products they buy should be safe for the environment.     52     will this shower cream be bad for the environment? Can this metal box be reusedCan it only be used once? A recent study showed that two out of five adults now consider the environmental safety of a product before they buy it.

53     Only by doing this can the companies make sure that they are “green” and friendly to the environment. A few years ago, it was impossible to find green products in supermarkets, but now there are hundreds.     54     Some companies also made some ads which are good for the environment. The care for a safer and cleaner environment is making companies rethink how they do business.

In a word, people will no longer accept the old attitude to “Buy it, use it, throw it away, and forget it.”     55     I believe we will have a really greener future.

ABefore they buy a product, they ask questions about the environment.

BLuckily, a number of students have taken action to fight against pollution.

CThey remain on the earth for over 100 years since they can’t be broken down easily.

DAnd more businesses and customers play a part in protecting the environment.

ESome supermarket products carry marks to show that the product is green.

FWhen they buy the products, they like asking questions about the prices.

GOn the other hand, companies now change the way they make and sell their products.

With a deep love for reading, I cannot wait to read more.
