Birds bring so many wonderful things to our lives. They have beautiful songs for our ears and beautiful feathers(羽毛)for our eyes.
Birds also add to expressions of different languages. You may have heard“a stupid bird flies first”. This Chinese saying means a person who is not talented enough can still go ahead of others by working hard. Another famous one is “to kill two birds with one stone”, which means using one action to hit two goals. And what about “birds of a feather flock together”? That means people with the same interests are often together.
Well, today we will talk about a bird expression that describes getting others unhappy. That is “to ruffle one's feathers”. For example,if I am often late meeting a friend, that could ruffle her feathers. And if someone lies to me, that will ruffle my feathers. This expression also means that your action shakes things up. We use it to describe an action that changes the usual way of doing things.
In English, we have quite a few expressions that mean something similar. To drive someone up the wall, to get under someone's skin, and to get on someone’s nerves all mean getting someone unhappy. However, we do not use those expressions to describe changing the usual way of doing things. So, in that sense, ruffling some feathers is different.
Word experts say that the use of this expression began in the mid-1800s. It comes from the fact that, sometimes, birds ruffle their feathers when they are scared. But birds also ruffle their feathers at other times, for example to keep warm or in mating(求偶)seasons.
( )56. Which expression states the importance of hard work?
A.A stupid bird flies first B. To ruffles one's feathers.
C.Birds of a feather flock together. D.To kill two birds with one stone.
( )57.What does the underlined word “flock” in Paragraph 2 mean?
- To shake hard. B. To separate. C. To get into a group. D. To feel unhappy.
( )58.How can we describe David if he does things in a different way from others?
A.He gets on others' nerves. B.He ruffles some feathers.
C.He drives others up the wall. D. He gets under others’ skin.
( )59.Which of the following reasons is NOT mentioned for a bird’s ruffling feathers?
A.It feels cold. B.It gets shocked. C. It wants to get attention. D.It wants to attack others.
( )60. What's the passage mainly about?
A.Some expressions about birds. B.Bird feathers. C. Something about birds. D. Some bird experts.

Do you find it difficult to get out of bed in the morning? Have you ever fallen asleep in class? If the answer is yes, then you’re not the only one. Across the world, bedtimes are getting later and teenagers are sleeping less. Health experts recommend that 15-year-olds should get around nine hours’ sleep, but only a third of us even get eight hours.
So what are the reasons for this? Well, the first is stress. Many young people find it hard to go to sleep before a big event such as an exam. Our increasing use of technology may also be a reason. New research at King’s College London shows that using a phone before going to bed makes it twice more possible for you to sleep badly that night.
But while many schools are trying to solve this problem by starting the school day later, some schools are trying something a bit different-they have set up sleeping areas, where students can sleep for 20 minutes in specially-designed chairs at noon or during breaks.
Some parents might say that their children should be studying during school hours, not sleeping. What I’d say is that sleepy students can’t concentrate(集中注意力), but in this way, they can return to class ready to focus on their work. The real solution, though, is to find ways to make sure we all get enough sleep at night so that nobody has to go to school tired.
76.How long should a 15-year-old student sleep a day?
77.How many reasons for students sleep problem are mentioned?
78.How do many schools try to solve students’ sleep problem?
79. When are the sleeping areas used?
