LeBron James is the new all-time scoring leader of the National Basketball Association (NBA).

Abdul-Jabbar was a longtime player for the Lakers. He became the NBA’s all-time leading scorer on April 5, 1984 and retired (退休) in 1989 with 38,387 points. It was a record that some thought would last forever, with very few coming close. Great basketball players, including Karl Malone, Kobe Bryant, and Michael Jordan retired when they were still thousands of points away.
James, who is 38 years old, passed all of them and set the record in his 20th season. Abdul-Jabbar also played 20 NBA seasons.

Birds fly more efficiently by folding their wings during the upstroke (上行运动), according to a recent study led by Lund University in Sweden. The results could mean that wing-folding is the next step in increasing the advancing efficiency of flapping drones (无人机).
Even previous to birds, extinct bird-like dinosaurs benefited from folding their wings as they developed active flight. Among flying animals alive today, birds are the most efficient. This makes them particularly interesting as inspiration for the development of drones. However, determining which flapping strategy is the best requires aerodynamic studies of various ways of flapping the wings. Therefore, a Swedish research team has constructed a robotic wing that can achieve just that — flapping like a bird, and beyond.
“We have built a robotic wing that flap more like a bird than previous robots. By measuring the performance of the wing in our wind tunnel, we have studied how different ways of achieving the wing upstroke affect force and energy in flight,” says Christoffer. He adds that “The new robotic wing can be used to answer questions about bird flight that would be impossible simply by observing flying birds. Research into the flight ability of living birds is limited to the flapping movement that the bird actually uses.” The research explains why birds flap the way they do, by finding out which movement patterns create the most force and are the most efficient.
Based on the result, there are many potential uses for drones where these insights can be put to good use. “Flapping drones could be used in many fields, like delivering goods, but they would need to be efficient enough and able to lift the extra weight this involves. How the wings move is of great importance for performance, so this is where our research could come in handy,” concludes Christoffer.

Artificial intelligence (AI) systems are using imaging information from paintings and photos to create new images in the same style. DALL-E, Midjourney and Stable Diffusion are among the AI tools that can create images that copy the styles of real artists.
A user can ask the system to produce an image, such as “a cat in the style of Van Gogh”, and the AI tool will quickly do so.
That makes living artists worry that their works will be copied without their permission (允许). Two new lawful actions, or lawsuits (诉讼), have been brought against the AI companies creating the images. Getty Images has brought one of the lawsuits. The American company is based in Seattle, Washington. It owns the rights to millions of pictures and other images. Three working artists also made lawsuits this year against Stability AI, and the companies Midjourney and DeviantArt. The artists say the companies’ AI images unfairly “ compete in the marketplace with the original images”.
The lawsuits come at a time when there is growing concern about new AI tools. These include systems that create readable text, music, and images. Some experts worry that AI technology could get too good, including engineer Wael Abd-Almageed.
“Once we lose this ability of telling what’s real and what’s fake (伪造的), everything will suddenly become fake because you lose confidence in anything and everything, “ he said.
However, some artists welcome the AI systems as new tools to create works. There are a lot of reasons for fear, but “what else can we do with them?” asked artist Refik Anadol, who uses AI to create. Artificial intelligence (AI) systems are using imaging information from paintings and photos to create new images in the same style. DALL-E, Midjourney and Stable Diffusion are among the AI tools that can create images that copy the styles of real artists.
