上海市杨浦区 2021-2023年中考英语模试题分类汇编回答问题2023上海市杨浦区中考模英语试题IX. Answer the questions(根据短文内容回答问题。)(12)Every three minutes, a child is born with a cleft lip. Children with these conditions[1] have terrible problems with eating drinking and speaking and one in ten of them die before their first birthday. The luckier ones live, but they are often rejected[2] by. friends and sometimes even by their own families. In rich countries, simple surgeries[3] can correct most of these mouth problems and allow children to live normal lives. But in poorer countries, the operations are too expensive for ordinary people and there are not enough doctors who can do them.In 1982, American doctor Bill Maqee and his wife Kathy, a nurse, went to the Philippines to do some cleft lip surgeries. But it was a short trip and there was no time to help all the children who needed surgery. They felt terribly guilty. When they got home, they started a new charity. They called it Operation Smile. Now Operation Smile works in more than sixty countries. Five thousand volunteers give their time and skills to provide free mouth surgery to the children who need it most. The charity also provides medical equipment and trains local doctors to do the surgery themselves. In this way, the results of an Operation Smile visit continue long into the future. When an international group of doctors and nurses travels to a country, two secondary school students go, too. The students are usually people who have done a lot of fundraising[4] in their local area and told a lot of people about the work of Operation Smile. Their trip is a fantastic way to experience a completely different culture and help to change lives forever.Word box[1] condition n. 状况[2] reject v. 拒绝[3] surgery n. 外科手术[4] fundraising n. 募捐;筹款78. Is it true that 1/3 of the children with a cleft lip cannot live longer than 1 year?79. Why did Bill and Kathy feel guilty when they were in the Philippines?80. Who could be the volunteers of Operation Smile?81. In how many countries can you find Operation Smile volunteers?82. What do the secondary school students do before they start a trip with Operation Smile?83. Use two adjectives to describe your feeling about Operation Smile. Give your reasons.  2022上海市杨浦区中考模英语试题十二、阅读回答问题Challenge yourself !15-year-old Kyle Washington writes about what he does in his free time.I joined the National Youth Challenge (NYC) last year because I knew they went camping and sailing and taught skills like public speaking, and these were things I’d never done before. In the NYC you can do different activities to challenge(挑战)yourself and you’re always learning something. There are different levels, from beginner to advanced, run by adult volunteers called “leaders”. When you complete each level, you get a certificate(证书).When I first joined, my leader suggested that my first challenge should be helping organize activities at a local children’s club for two hours a week. I wasn’t sure if it was a good idea, I’d joined that same club when I was eight and I’d found it really difficult to make friends. I was quite shy then and all the other children already had their own friendship groups, so I’d stopped going after a couple of weeks. I decided to take up the challenge though, but only because I wanted my first NYC certificate.Soon, however, I wanted to spend all my free time at the children’s club. It meant a lot more to me than just getting the certificate. And when I finished the challenge, the NYC leader let me keep on volunteering at the club because I’d built up some great relationships with the children there. Now I go there for about four hours a week and I always really look forward to going.Because of what I’ve learnt at the children’s club, I’ve decided that when I finish school in three years’ time, I want to go to college to study to become a qualified youth worker—someone who works with children. It wasn’t something I’d ever considered before starting at the club. In fact, I’d never thought about my future job, and the idea of youth work had never entered my mind. This has been my favourite part of the NYC so far and I’ve improved my communication skills while at the same time helping others. I’ve got several other NYC certificates now and—yes, one of them is for camping!58Kyle joined the NYC to improve some of his skills, didn’t he?_________________________________________________59Who runs the different activities in the NYC?__________________________________________________60What was Kyle’s first challenge in the NYC?__________________________________________________61Why didn’t Kyle want to take up his first challenge at first?__________________________________________________62What does a qualified youth worker mainly do?__________________________________________________63What has Kyle gained from the NYC?___________________________________________________ 2021上海市杨浦区中考模英语试题十六、阅读回答问题Michael Morpurgo was born on 5th October, 1943 in the south of England. He and his brother were moved from London when the Second World War began. Michael went to two different boarding schools when he was growing up. He particularly enjoyed playing rugby and singing but he often felt homesick and missed home. After school, Michael joined the army but he did not enjoy being shouted at and so he left shortly afterwards. Michael then decided to go to university instead. After graduating from university, Michael became a primary school teacher and taught in a small school in Kent. He loved teaching and his favourite thing to do was to read stories to his class. When he ran out of stories to read to them, Morpurgo started to write his own. His first book was written in 1974 and was called It Never Rains: Five Stories. Morpurgo has stated that the days he spent teaching are some of the happiest of his life.Michael left teaching after ten years and bought a farm with his wife. Together they began a charity called Farms for City Children. This charity offers children who live in poorer, inner-cities the chance to come and stay on a working farm for a week. Children learn from hands-on experience about how to care for animals and how to work with others as part of a team. The charity is still running today, and thousands of children have been to stay at one of the three farms that the charity now owns.Michael Morpurgo has written over 100 books for children. He writes about children and their relationships with older people and animals. He also writes stories about wars. Many of them have won prizes and several are now films or plays, including War Horse, which is now well known around the world. Another popular book is Kensuke’s Kingdom, which he wrote in 1999.74Michael Morpurgo is a famous British writer, isn’t he?____________________________________________________________75What did Michael probably dislike about his boarding school life?____________________________________________________________76When did Michael begin writing stories for children?____________________________________________________________77How long had Michael been teaching before he bought a farm?____________________________________________________________78What do children do in Farms for City Children?____________________________________________________________79Why do you think many of Michael’s books are set in war time?_____________________________________________________________ 答案:2023上海市杨浦区中考模英语试题58No, it isn’t.    59Because they couldn’t help all the children who needed surgery.    60Doctors and nurses.    61More than sixty.    62They do a lot of fundraising in their local area and tell people about the work of Operation Smile.    63It is (a) helpful and responsible (charity).
