    1.阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
    Shoes are made for walking.
But Aamir, a homeless Indian boy, doubted it. Wandering the noisy railway platform, he found one of his flip-flops (人字拖鞋) broken again. He hurried to a corner, sat down and tried to fix it, his bare foot pressing awkwardly against the ground. However, it was beyond repair.
He gave up and looked around aimlessly, staring at people’s shoes. Suddenly, his eyes were drawn to two boyish legs wearing flawlessly white socks and equally perfect black leather shoes, which were glittering in the mid-day sun. It was a boy of his age. He couldn’t treasure his possession too much, obviously, because every ten seconds, he stopped, bent down and carefully wiped a dust or two from his shoes. His father was constantly glancing over and urging him, “Hurry up! The train is coming!”
Aamir’s eyes followed the father and son, but mostly the leather shoes, as if enchanted (被施魔法的). Imagining himself wearing them, the comfort from the good leather, jaw-dropping look on his friends’ faces, he couldn’t help cracking a big smile.
The bell of the train drew him back; the fancy-shoe boy and his father were about to get aboard. They tried to crowd into the doorway. However, the instant the boy entered the compartment (车厢), one of his shoes fell off and before he could pick it up, the train began to pull away.
The shoe was now lying alone on the platform. Aamir’s eyes lit up with excitement. Like an arrow, he shot for the shoe and then picked it up, holding it with both hands as if holding the Queen’s crown. After a few seconds of hesitating and looking from the shoe to the train and back, he began racing--with only one good shoe, his flip-flop.
He held the leather shoe up, trying to pass it to the boy through the window, who was desperately reaching out his hand as well. However, it was never close enough.
Para 1: That left Aamir no choice but to throw the shoe onto the train.

Para 2: But when he raised his head, Aamir saw the other shoe thrown out of the window.

    2.阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
There’s a small, brown brick house, almost hidden by evergreens in front that I visit from time to time. It’s not the house that is special to me, but rather the person who lives inside. After I parked my car, I knocked on the door and heard a singsong voice inviting me in.
“It’s me, Miss C,” I said as I took off my coat.
“Put your boots under the heater, lovey,” she said as she slowly appeared in the hallway with her walker.
We gave each other a long, tight hug.
I met Miss C about 45 years ago when she was my sister’s kindergarten teacher. I remember looking into her classroom wishing I was her student. My parents reassured me I could start school when I was 4. However, when I turned 4 in the spring, I couldn’t understand why I had to wait until September.
My classmates and I knew our teacher deeply cared about us. For me, that is the mark of an extraordinary educator — one who instills (灌输) both the love for learning within their students and the excitement of going to school.
Miss C created a safe place where we could be whatever we wanted to be in that moment: a painter, a construction worker, a dancer, a writer. One spring morning, we were overjoyed by the arrival of baby chick eggs. We named and cared for them for a few weeks. After they hatched, we became keen scientists carefully documenting their development through pictures and words in our egg journals. We also made handicrafts with empty yogurt containers, which Miss C collected or we brought from home.
I loved her and I wanted to be a kindergarten teacher just like her. When I graduated, I couldn’t wait to invite Miss C to my classroom. For years, Miss C volunteered in my classroom. I felt fortunate to learn about teaching from her. I looked forward to our conversations as colleagues and friends.
Next month she will move to Cuba and the time to sell her house is near. I came here to pack up things for her.

    3.阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
I especially like a poem I learned in kindergarten. Although it has been more than 40 years, I still often recite it.
    My Teacher Mr. Moore
    There’s a teacher Mr. Moore.
    Who is lovely and thirty-four.
    Always encouraging us to try.
He leads us to a world of “why”.
We all admire him more and more.
The author of this poem is unknown, but it reminds me of the countless teachers who have taught me. Whenever I read this poem, I couldn’t help thinking of my math teacher, Mrs. Davies. I firmly believe that she was such a teacher described in the poem.
In high school, Mrs. Davies was my math. teacher, who took her job seriously and expected her students to put forth the same degree of commitment. Though she was 30, she looked very young for her age. And she was one of the most popular teachers in our school.
Compared with other teachers, Mrs. Davies paid more attention to her way of teaching. She tried various ways to make her classes lively and interesting.
Strict but fair, she held our attention with her time-proven approach. One of her classes was for students who were more advanced academically. I chose to take it and soon realized that the course was a bit over my head. I struggled with the complex problems that others seemed to learn without much effort.
One Friday we were tested on our ability to use a theorem(定理) that no one in the class thoroughly understood. The teacher should grade our papers based on our ability to progress through the problem. I was absolutely lost. Finally, I didn’t use the required theorem. Instead, I decided to use more familiar theorems to arrive at the answer. I knew I had failed because I hadn’t done the required assignment. I became resigned to my fate.

    4.阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
I joined a summer camp just a few weeks ago. Our first day was full of getting-to-know-each-other games to help us learn our way around the campground. Our second day was very hot, so a teacher took us to the best place for cooling down. “Woo-hoo!” the teacher shouted as he led the way into the shallow part of the lake. We all ran after him like ducklings and happily splashed(拍水) around, except for one kid named Max, who sat on the dock(码头) looking sad.
Here’s the surprising thing about that. The day before, when we took tests to see what level swimmers we were in the pool, Max turned out to be the best swimmer. So why was he just sitting? I swam over and said, “Why aren’t you in the water? We found out yesterday that you’re a bit like a half fish.”
“OK, I’ll tell you, but it’s a little embarrassing(尴尬的),” he said. “Even though I’m kind of a half fish, I’m also afraid of real fish-and of anything else that might be swimming in the dirty water.” “Don’t be embarrassed,” I said. “We’re all afraid of something. I’m totally scared of snakes and the dark, um, avocados(牛油果).”
    “Avocados?” Max smiled.
“I know it sounds strange,” I said. “But they’re just so slimy(黏)!”
“Look out!” Max joked. “The big avocado monster(怪物) is coming to slime you.” “You look out!” I replied. “A giant fish monster is heading your way.”
Soon, we were both laughing. That broke the ice enough for me to say, “You might feel better if you take a look at what’s actually under the water.”
I grabbed two pairs of goggles(护目镜) from a bin and put one pair on. “I’ll go first,” I said, then went under for a few seconds before coming up. “Nothing scary,” I reported.
Max hesitated, then put on the other pair, took a deep breath, and went under the water for about three seconds.

    5.阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Brutus had everything in the world: good food, good toys, and good clothes. But the problem was that he had to share them all with his three other brothers, Mack, Jack and Robert.
Brutus had to share his favorite cookie box with Mack, who always finished the whole box before Brutus could take a bite. He also had to share his toys with his youngest brother Jack, who always ended up breaking them. Brutus also had the unfortunate privilege of being given his older brother Robert’s hand-me-downs of old clothes.
Brutus hated sharing and wished he had nobody to share his belongings with. “Why can’t I be the only child?” Brutus sighed as he stared at the stars. “I wish I had no stupid brothers,” Brutus demanded at one sparkling star.
To his surprise, the star suddenly twinkled and fell towards his direction. The star inched closer and closer to his bedroom window. He screamed and tried to wake his brothers up but it was too late. The star crashed inside their room, followed by an ear-splitting explosion.
The next day, Brutus woke up with a bad headache. He rushed to his brothers’ beds to ask them if they were okay but was quickly shocked to see that their beds had been empty. They were nowhere to be found.
Brutus had the fortune of spending the whole morning playing with his toys. He put on his brother’s brand new clothes and sneakers which fit him perfectly. As he was checking himself in the mirror, he suddenly realized that his wish had come true. His brothers were gone and he had the whole world to himself.
“I can get used to this,” he said to himself happily

    6.阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Adam lived with his parents in one city while his grandparents lived far away in another city. Adam’s parents usually took their son to his grandparents’ house during summer holiday every year and stayed there for around 20 days. Adam’s grandfather loved him very much and spent a lot of time playing with him. His grandmother always cooked delicious food for him. Adam loved his stay there. This continued for years. The boy grew up over time.
One day Adam said to his parents, “Now, I am old enough to go to grandparents’ house alone. So, please let me go by myself.”
His parents didn’t agree at first but Adam insisted(坚持). They finally agreed. But they were worried about his safety. So, they taught him everything he needed to know to travel alone.
The day came when Adam was to leave for his grandparents’ house. And his parents came to see him off at the train station. When the boy was comfortably seated on the train, his parents got off and waited for the train to leave.
While waiting, the father went to the window and kept talking to his son. He handed his son an envelope(信封) from the window and said, “Son, if you feel afraid on the way, open this and read it. It will help you to calm down.”
The boy kept that envelope in his pocket carefully and said goodbye to his parents. When the train was ready to leave, the boy smiled and told his father, “I remember everything. Don’t worry.”
At every station where the train stopped, people kept coming and going. The boy started feeling a little lonely.

    7.阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
It is said that the best time of playing the piano is when he or she is a kid. But when Max came to his first piano lesson in his mother’s car, he was already 11 years old. I preferred students begin at an earlier age, but due to his insistence (坚持), I took him as a student. As much as Max tried, he lacked the sense of tone and basic rhythm. At the end of each lesson, he’d say, “My mom’s going to hear me play someday.” But it seemed hopeless. I only knew his mother from a distance as she waited in her aged car, but never stepped in.
After 2 months, one day Max didn’t come to our lessons any more. I thought about calling him but assumed, because of his lack of ability, that he had decided to quit. I also was glad that he stopped coming — he was a bad advertisement for my teaching!
Later, in order to celebrate the New Year, I mailed to the students’ homes a letter on the upcoming concert. Surprisingly, Jackie received and asked me if he could be in the concert. I told him that the concert was not for dropouts (辍学者), but for current pupils. He said that his mom had been sick and unable to take him to piano lessons but he was still practicing. I didn’t know what led me to agree eventually.
At the concert night, the hall was packed with parents and friends. I put up Max last in the program. I thought that any damage he would do would come at the end of the program and the negative effect would reduce to the least.
Surprisingly, the concert went off successfully. Then Max came up on stage. His clothes were wrinkled and his hair looked messy. “Why didn’t his mother at least make him comb his hair for this special night?” I thought.

I couldn’t believe it. As I walked into campus, I saw posters everywhere with the words “Throw out the student union president!” on them.
As my schoolmates began arriving on campus, I watched them gather around the posters and then looked toward me because I was the president. At that moment, I felt that I was torn into pieces and tried my best to stay calm.
When I was elected the president, my friends said it was one of the best campaigns they had ever seen. I started it by organizing a group of students to climb the mountain near our school. When we reached the top of the mountain, it felt like we were at summer camp. We laughed, danced and told jokes. It was really fun. While playing like little children, we agreed to do it again the following week and decided that each of us would bring a new friend.
We started out with a small group of hikers. But as the word spread, the number of participants increased. One day on campus, I met a girl in a wheelchair and we started talking. Her name was Grace. I asked her if she had ever been to the top of the mountain. She said she hadn’t. I told her that my friends and I would carry her if she were up for it. Grace accepted the offer. The next time when we went up the mountain, we took turns to carry her in her chair all the way to the mountain top.
This was probably one of the most meaningful things I did during the campaign. By the end, we had over seventy-five people climbing the mountain on Thursdays, including Grace. All of us who participated felt like we were part of something much bigger than we were. We were building a community and it felt great and no one was surprised that I had won the election.

Mary waited anxiously for her turn in the empty dressing room. Never had she been so nervous before. This competition was of vital importance to her comeback. “If I can win today,”she said to herself,“I can dance on the national stage next month.” Three months ago,her left arm was seriously injured in a car accident. After the medical treatment, she began to recover slowly. She practiced over and over again in order to regain her dancing skills.
“Hi,Mary,”in rushed her friend Jessica. “How is your arm? Is it going to influence your performance?”
“I guess it can be tolerated for I am to win the match.” said Mary with a determined look.
“Admirable! But I hear that a girl called Linda is really gifted and strong. She can be your real well-matched competitor. Come on!”
After Jessica left,Mary decided to practice her most difficult spin. “If I don’t try harder,I won’t grasp this chance.” She thought. But her arm began to hurt, making her worried. “Mary, what makes you think you have a chance tonight?” she said to herself. After the pain was gone, she continued to warm up.
A slim girl hurried in and put down an equipment bag on the chair. Then, she took out her dance dress quickly and put it on skillfully. Seeing Mary, she smiled politely and said “Hi,I’m Linda. I am the next one!” Mary nodded in reply but felt uncomfortable. “This is just my competitor. Because of her,I may lose tonight.” Her mind was wandering when Linda let out a scream,“Oh,God,I can’t find my music tape!” Linda searched her bag but in vain. “It may be missing on the way.” With these words, she then rushed out.

    10.阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Sadie looked out of the window and sighed (叹气) as she thought about another long, boring day of summer. She wondered what all of her friends from school were doing on their summer vacations. It had to be a lot better than looking out of a window. Sadie thought about the fun she had last summer when she and her best friend Allison went to the beach. They built sandcastles, played beach volleyball, and even tried surfing. But they wouldn’t be going to the beach together this summer because Allison had moved to a different city far away from Sadie’s.
Suddenly, Sadie had an idea. She could call her friend Wendy, who always had funny ideas. Maybe they could ride their bikes together around the park. Sadie raced to the living room, picked up the phone, and called Wendy. She sighed more deeply as the phone rang and rang. Then Sadie seated herself on the sofa, picked up the television remote, and put it down again. She didn’t really want to watch television, so she went to her room and found the list of phone numbers of her good friends from school. In the living room, she called almost each of them, but no one was at home.
After hanging up the phone, Sadie wandered into the kitchen and sat down at the table, watching her mom do the cleaning. “Mom, I don’t have anyone to hang out with because my friends from school aren’t home and Allison moved away,” said Sadie. “Honey, there are many things you can do by yourself, like playing your guitar or having a walk in the garden. You could even finish that story about our camping trip,” said Mom.
“I don’t want to do those things by myself. I want to play with a friend.” “Sometimes, it is nice to do things by yourself,” said Mom. “I like seeing my friends, but I also like doing things alone like taking a walk by myself or finding a quiet spot to read. Why not have a try?”
    注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;

1.That left Aamir no choice but to throw the shoe onto the train. With his eyes fixed on the window, Aamir put all his strength in his right hand and made a powerful throw. However, he abruptly fell off because of the broken flip-flop. Without a second thought, he tried again, the shoe just flew past the window frame and fell on the platform like a dead leaf. Seeing this, Aamir stamped his feet, wearing a frustrated look. “Are shoes really made for walking?”, Aamir thought with depression. He drooped his head, not knowing what to do next.
But when he raised his head, Aamir saw the other shoe thrown out of the window. Miraculously, it landed on the platform several steps away from him. Before he could look up again and seek out the fancy-shoe boy, the train sped on, vanishing in the distance. What remained in sight was the meandering rail track and the rolling mountains far away. Twenty years later, when he was launching his new footwear product at a press conference, wearing a pair of shining leather shoes, Aamir started his presentation with a simple sentence: “Shoes are made for walking.”

2.I brought up boxes from her basement and placed them at her feet. Then I sat on the floor and opened each box for her. One by one we went through every painting a student had given her; every thank-you note a parent had written. Before I left, she handed me a bag of “garbage” as she called it, which consists of many of her teaching aids and the empty containers she saved for me. She knows these are treasures only to kindergarten teachers. I happily accepted them and gave her a hug goodbye.
With the bag of “garbage”, I left her house. I got into my car and backed out of her driveway. While driving home, I couldn’t help thinking of my 45-year friendship with my kindergarten teacher. It was under her influence that I became a teacher and it was her friendship that made me a good teacher. Teaching is a profession that is devoted to the development of young individuals. The lucky teachers get to see what their students have done with their lives. The exceptional ones never leave their students’ hearts.

I watched nervously as the teacher approached my desk, smiled, and asked for my test paper back. She then went back to copy my work onto the blackboard, showing the class how I had arrived at the correct answer. ”Mathematics is meant to be a creative tool, pushing our minds to a rewarding answer," she said with confidence.
Though I didn’t use the required theorem, Mrs. Davies seemed genuinely proud of me. The class saw her fold my test paper and put it into her textbook. She announced that it would be shared with future classes. My teacher should have been justified in giving me a failing grade. Instead, she used the opportunity to deeply influence a student who often struggled. And after forty years, I still cherish the memory. It helped change my self-image. I opened up to a broad boundary of possibilities which had made my life an adventure. She understood that teaching went beyond strict demands and could be used to inspire. Thank you, Mrs. Davies.

    4.    “Any lake monsters?” I asked when he appeared from the water. He laughed and pointed at some harmless little fish. “Only small fish.” Max decided to wait it out on the dock that day, but he was actually swimming in the lake before the end of the camp! Seeing him swimming happily in the lake, I was relieved and relaxed. In the meantime, I was lost in my thought: Nearly everyone I’ve met is afraid of something and how to get over it means a lot.
In my experience, laughing a little about the thing that scares you can make it easier to talk about it. And then taking baby steps to learn more about the thing for instance, looking into dirty water with goggles on can actually be a big help in overcoming the fear. The problem is that most people hold their fears closely, because it’s part of who they are. If you aren’t ready to face your fear, you probably won’t overcome your fear. If you’re ready to move forward, facing your fear bravely is the first step to take.

5.When he felt hungry, his mother came back with a full box of cookies. “They’re all for you, my dear son,” said Mom with a caring smile. Mom told him that his brothers had gone to visit his grandparents with his dad. Thinking that he could enjoy all the cookies alone, Brutus was wild with joy. With mouth watering, Brutus wolfed down four cookies before he felt too full to have more. Every day Brutus enjoyed playing toys, having delicious food and wearing new clothes without his brothers bothering.
In this way, he spent five days as an only child before he felt the empty house was too quiet. He needed someone to play with. Although he was well dressed, food didn’t taste good with nobody to share with. He began to miss his brothers. He realized their company was what he needed most. “I wish I wouldn’t be the only child any longer,”he thought, falling asleep. The next morning, a pillow hit Brutus on the head, waking him up. But he couldn’t help thinking about that man, especially the cuts on the man’s face. He wanted to go and ask the train conductor to change his seat but he feared to tell the conductor his idea.
Then he remembered his father’s letter. He put his hand in his pocket quietly and took out the letter. His father had written, “Don’t be afraid, my little brave man. Just imagine I am here with you on the train, in the neighbouring car.” After reading that letter, the boy’s face lit up without any fear. Unexpectedly, Max chose Beethoven’s works. Max walked onto the stage confidently, then pulled out the piano bench and began his performance immediately. In fact, I didn’t get well prepared for what I heard next. His fingers were dancing on keys, which made me extremely astonished. Never had I heard Beethoven played so well by people of his age. After about six minutes, he ended up very well. Everyone present was crazy with excitement and rose to their feet, breaking into loud applause. After the performance, he stepped off the stage.
Immediately, I rushed to the stage, and held Max firmly with delight, asking “How did you do it? Do you still remember that my mom was ill seriously?” He explained, with tears rolling in her eyes, “In the past few months, she has always accompanied and encouraged me. Actually she had cancer, with little chance to survive. Today, I didn’t let her down” After I heard his words, tears were welling up in my eyes. And at that moment, I realized it was Max that taught me the true meaning of insistence and love.

My friends and supporters tried to communicate to me that I had changed and that I was abusing my position, but I wasn’t listening. It wasn’t long before the very people who had trusted me began to turn against me. But I still wasn’t paying attention and even had public conflicts with them.
When I realized I had made a mistake, I decided to change. I used to think that I had to pretend to know what I was doing and that I was in charge. It was that kind of thinking that got me into trouble in the first place. Now, I was finding that the easiest way to gain other people’s respect was to admit to them what I did not know. I felt greatly ashamed. Eventually, I finished my term as president.

She bent over to pick it up. “Linda’s music tape!” She cried out in surprise. “It must have rolled out of her bag, when she got changed here.” At this moment,an idea flashed through her mind, which made her rooted to the spot. “Without her music tape,Linda will surely lose;without this real competitor,I will definitely win.” At the thought of this,Mary shivered slightly. She was wondering what to do next. She hesitated for a second and then hurried out to give the music tape to Linda, who was extremely anxious in the corridor. Linda was so grateful to Mary, and she began her performance.
Linda finished her dancing successfully, and then came Mary’s turn. Mary walked on the stage with her heart beating faster and faster. Nervous as she was,she stepped onto the stage with a big smile. 10.   Sadie thought about her mom’s words and returned to her room. Considering for a while, she took the story she started last month from her desk drawer and began to write. Some scenes she took down were so interesting that she laughed out loud. When she stopped and looked at the clock, she found she had been writing for 30 minutes.
