Nobody wants to lose, but we must accept that losing is a part of life. After all, we can’t win all the time. However, we can learn something valuable from every failure. This may help us succeed in the future. So we must know how to be a good loser.
We must not be afraid of losing. When we lose, just take it with a smile and look on the bright side of it. Failure can’t be avoided in our life. Edison failed 10, 000 times before he invented the light bulb(灯泡). When he was asked how he felt, he said that he hadn’t failed 10,000 times but had learned 10, 000 things which didn’t work. We must know that history is full of examples of men and women who achieved success although they failed many times.
Losing is not very disgraceful. We must accept our failure and learn to take advantage of it. Remember that it can be helpful. Take action to walk out of it. When we lose, think about what we did and how we can improve. If someone else can help, we’ll be lucky enough. Maybe he or she has been through the same experience before. Many people enjoy helping others work out problems. This can save us a lot of time in learning how to avoid the same mistakes in the future.
We should face our failure when we lose. There is only one winner in every competition. Some win, while some lose. That is a usual way of life. If we offer our congratulations to the winners and share in their happiness, we won’t feel sorry for our failure.
In a word, being a good loser will help us to succeed in life. It might be painful at the start, but there are many advantages. Good losers set examples to us, and most importantly, they finally win.
32. In the writer’s eyes, why did Edison achieve success?
A. He got help from others. B. He happened to make it.
C. He avoided possible mistakes. D. He saw the bright side of losing.
33. What does the underlined word “disgraceful” most probably mean?
A. Terrible. B. Personal. C. Dangerous. D. Interesting.
34. What does the writer advise the losers to do in a competition?
A. Share in the winners’ enjoyment. B. Express the regret to others.
C. Join in another competition. D. Set good examples to others.
35. What can be a suitable title for the text?
A. Ideas about How to Avoid Mistakes B. Experience in Dealing with Problems
C. Advice on How to Be a Good Loser D. Advantages of Both Success and Failure
二、阅读还原(共5 小题; 每小题2. 5分,满分7. 5分)
根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项, 并在答题卡上将该
项涂黑。选项中有一项为多余选项。
There are so many expressions in American English that sound nice but are not. 36 When someone says they have to “face the music”, it does not mean they are going to a concert. “Facing the music” means to accept the punishment of an action.
Americans often use the word “face” in this way. For example, “I can’t face another night of camping! It’s cold and rainy. ” Or “In life, you must face your fears. ” 37
Back to facing the music: Imagine a friend asks you to take care of her expensive sports car. She gives you the keys and says, “Thanks so much for watching my car while I’m away. But please, do not drive it. It is an extremely fast car. ” 38 You want to show off to some friends. So, you drive it around town one night. As bad luck would have it, you lose control of the car and drive it into a stop sign. Bang!
When your friend returns, you must tell her what you have done and “face the music”. 39 It could be losing her friendship or paying to repair her car, or both. Whatever the music is, you must face it.
40 To “take your medicine” means to accept the results from something bad you have done. And if someone says, “You made your bed. Now lie in it, ” they mean you created a bad situation and now you have to experience the results!
A. But you do not listen at all.
B. “Face the music” is a good example.
C. The “music” here is the result of your actions.
D. Face used in this way is very common in America.
E. American people use “face the music” a lot in their daily life.
F. There are other American expressions that mean the same thing as “face the music”.

The program helps middle school students who are preparing for the Specialized High School Admissions Test (SHSAT). Davis is an African-American student. Davis’s father recently bought a building, so Davis’s family turned the building into a tutoring center to help the students in his community. He tries to help kids prepare for the test while also helping them with their own schoolwork.
During schooldays, Davis and his team will first find out what the students are doing in their classroom. If they are having trouble, he and his team will walk them through it. With this help, the students can improve in a difficult subject.
Sometimes being a teen tutor can be a difficult thing. The most difficult thing for Davis is learning how to be patient. He had to learn to not be sad if his students don’t understand him quickly.

The ticket lady asked how many tickets the father wanted, he proudly answered, “Please let me buy eight children’s tickets and two adults’ tickets, so I can take my family to the game.”
The ticket lady told him the price.
The man’s wife lowered her head. There was no longer a smile on the man’s face. He quietly asked, “How much did you say?”
The ticket lady again told him the price.
The man didn’t have enough money. But how could he tell his kids the bad news?
Seeing what was happening, my dad took $20 from his pocket and dropped it on the ground. (We were not rich ourselves at all!) He then said to the eight children’s father, “Excuse me, sir, you dropped this.”

How has technology made your life easier? When you go to a shopping mall, you can enjoy free Wi-Fi there. When you want to take a taxi, you can book one with your phone. In fact, all of these things can be seen as the beginning of a smart city.
The idea of a smart city was first suggested by tech company IBM in 2010. Generally, a smart city is a city that uses digital technology, such as 5G networks and the “internet of things”, to improve city planning, save money and resources (资源), and make our lives more convenient.
Cities like Boston, Amsterdam and Copenhagen are already using smart technology to improve public services. In the US cities of Boston and Baltimore, smart dustbins can know how full they are and tell workers when they need to be cleaned. In Amsterdam, traffic is monitored (监测) according to real-time data. There are fewer traffic jams.
Smart cities will help us to save resources. By using sensors and 5G networks to check the use of water, gas and electricity, city managers can find out how to use these resources better. For example, water and gas pipes (煤气管) could remind repair workers when there is a leak (泄漏). Air pollution could be more closely monitored, too.
Of course, it will take time to build the smart cities of the future. But since we’ve already seen successful examples, it won’t be long until more cities join in. Tech Republic estimates (估计) that by 2050, about 60 percent of people worldwide will live in smart cities.
42.A smart city is a city _______.
A.where smart people live B.that uses digital technology.
C.that is full of buildings D.that is very beautiful
43.From the examples given of smart cities, we know that ________.
A.smart cities will use a lot of resources
B.people don’t like living in smart cities
C.there will be no traffic jams in the future
D.smart cities can make our lives more convenient
44.What can we infer from the passage?
A.Not all people expect to live in smart cities.
B.There are many disadvantages to live in smart cities.
C.More people will live in smart cities in about 30 years.
D.60 percent of cities will be turned into smart cities by 2050.
45.Which is the best title for the passage?

I think a driver’s license shows one has grown into an adult (成年人). So as soon as I reached 16, I wanted to get my driver’s license in California, US.
However, I realized it was a little different from that in other states. The first step is to take a writing test at the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV). Once you pass the test, you are allowed to drive if an adult driver is in the car with you. It took me much work to the DMV before I finally passed the writing test. I left my ID card at home the first time, and the DMV worker spelled my name wrong on the test paper the second time. At last, I left the DMV smiling after my third visit.
Before taking the final road test, I had to get enough practice on the road. Although my dad had a bad temper (脾气), he came to help me. I felt that he became even worse when driving with me.
He warned me that there were many careless drivers on the road. Also, he believed that for a learner like me, driving is playing with my life. Every time I made mistakes, he shouted at me, which always made me shake and almost lose control of the car. I was already terrified (惊恐的) seeing cars rushing next to me. My dad’s shouting made me feel even worse.
After practicing for a month, the situation became much better. In January, I passed the road test and received my driver’s license. I finally made it thanks to my dad’s serious, yet terrifying, help.

C.In February. D.In December.
11.What do we know about the writer’s father?

C.He was strict with his son. D.He controlled his temper well.
When you take a walk along the River Thames, you will see lots of eye-catching buildings. Running through the heart of London, there are also many markets, shops and activities to keep you busy along its banks. You will also see a strange round building. It looks very old and very different from all the others. This is Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre.
The Globe Theatre was first built here in 1599. William Shakespeare was one of the most famous writers that ever lived. His plays were on show in the theatre for many years. However, in 1613, a fire broke out during a play. The theatre was burnt down, but the second was built the following year. It remained a theatre until 1644, and then it was pulled down to build houses. The modern (and also the third) Globe Theatre was completed in 1997, over 350 years later. This was done to honor Shakespeare, the most famous English writer. To this day, his many plays are on show there daily. He wrote around thirty-eight plays, including comedies (funny stories), histories (about historical events and people), and tragedies (serious and sad stories). People come from all over the world to watch them at the Globe Theatre. They are exactly the same as they were hundreds of years ago.
The building is round and made mostly of wood. There are simple seats on three different levels all around the sides. Everyone can see the stage( 舞台). However, there is no housetop in the middle! The cheapest tickets are standing tickets. You stand in the middle, right in front of the actors, but if it rains, you will get wet!
