Singer Liu Genghong is enjoying great popularity recently after posting online fitness videos on TikTok. In the videos, he often works out to the fast-paced music of his friend JayChou. Now his TikTok account has rocketed to 55 million fans and 53 million likes, inspiring people’s interest in indoor exercise.
According to Pu Zhengning, a professor of Southeast University in Nanjing, the COVID-19 has limited access to gyms and fitness centers, so simple aerobic (有氧的) exercises that do not need equipment are perfect for people to perform at home. And that is exactly the demand that Liu has come up on his social media platforms.
Since the COVID-19 broke out, the increasing downloads of fitness apps indicates the growing popularity of online fitness. The number of fitness videos on the platform in 2021 increased by 134 percent, while followers of fitness trainers were up by 208 percent.
Wei Fang, a student at Shandong Normal University, is one of Liu’s fans. “My major requires me to sit for a long time,” she said. “So how could I refuse a star singer as a personal trainer? Besides, when watching the live stream, I feel like I’m taking exercise with friends, which encourages me to keep going,” added Wei, who claims to have lost 3.5 kilograms in just seven days and also have a more positive mood.
According to the 2022 Sports and Fitness Consumption Trend Report, the sales of yoga and dance products have achieved fast growth since March. Along with social media plat-forms, China’s sports governing body launched online games on April 28. Ding Dong, an official with the General Administration of Sport, said: “The aim of the games is to inspire the mass enthusiasm for fitness.”
Now it seems that “cloud fitness” offers a great choice to gym memberships. In the past, aerobic exercises on TV were popular, and now it’s even easier to follow along and learn from instructors on short-video platforms.
1.Why does Liu Genghong become popular online recently?

C.She refuses to exercise together with friends.
D.She benefits physically and mentally from exercise.
3.What does the 2022 Sports and Fitness Consumption Trend Report indicate?

C.More and more people take part in aerobic exercises.
D.Yoga and dance on TikTok are developing together.
4.What is the best title for the text?
A.Come to Exercise with Trainer Liu
    B.The Followers of Fitness Instructors

The tornadoes that recently struck the U.S. are some of the most destructive and deadly in history. The death in Kentucky, the hardest hit state, reached 80 on Monday, with dozens still unaccounted for. The scale of destruction and timing of the tornadoes so late in the year — most tornadoes occur in the spring and summer — is fueling discussion about how climate change may have influenced this deadly disaster.
“In my 40 years as a meteorologist (气象学家), this was one of the most shocking weather events I’ve ever witnessed,” says Jeff Masters, at Yale Climate Connections. “Watching these storms on Friday night, my thought was, ‘Is no season safe?’ Extreme tornadoes in December. That was mind blowing to me.”
Unlike heat waves and floods, the link between a wanning world and tornadoes is complex and uncertain. Scientists have several theories about how tornado behavior may change. Tornadoes in December are possible. But it remains to be seen whether climate change will strengthen or increase the frequency of tornadoes.
According to NOAA’s data, there has been a recorded increase in the number of observed tornadoes since 1950, which experts believe is largely due to better technology such as Doppler radar. There’s been no observed increase in the frequency of major tornadoes over time. For example, 59 of the most severe F5 tornadoes in the U.S. have occurred since 1950. But if the storm that destroyed Kentucky turns out to have been an F5, it will have been the first since 2013 — bringing to an end the longest recorded period so far.
Nevertheless, “given the general influence of global warming on the atmosphere, it makes sense that it should be having an impact on tornadoes too,” says Victor Gensini, an extreme weather expert at Northern Illinois University. “Instead of asking: ‘Did climate change cause this tornado?’ It’s better to operate under the assumption that climate change did play a role,” he says.
While the science on climate change and tornadoes isn’t clear, meteorologists are predicting that conditions benefiting tornadoes will continue this month. “I’m worried about the rest of the year to be honest. I don’t think we’re out of the woods yet.” Gensini says.
5.What is one difference between the recent tornadoes and the ones in the past?
A.They hit only Kentucky. B.They happened in December.
C.They caused no deaths. D.They caught people unprepared.
6.What can be inferred in paragraph 3?
A.Waves and floods often follow tornadoes.
B.There is an agreement on how tornadoes may change.
C.Climate change will make tornadoes the most deadly disaster.
D.Scientists are unsure about how climate change influences tornadoes.
7.Which statement may Victor Gensini agree with?
A.The climate change most likely has an effect on tornadoes.
B.The tornadoes have nothing to do with climate warming.
C.The science on climate change is advancing very quickly.
D.The climate change will make tornadoes much less frequent.
8.What does the underlined phrase “out of the woods” mean in the last paragraph?
A.Out of forest. B.Out of difficulty.
C.Out of danger. D.Out of question.

More than half of the food produced in Canada goes to waste. A shocking new study has shown that the level of food waste is far worse than previously thought, at 58%. Of that, about 85% of food waste is due to food processors. This differs from earlier studies, which criticized families for driving food waste and said they were responsible for 51% of food waste.
The study was carried out by Martin Hooch, the leading expert on food waste and the author of several previous studies on the subject. Reflecting on the study’s findings, Hooch said, “It means stopping criticizing consumers. Sure, consumers are part of the problem, but they’re not the problem.”
In the past, Hooch didn't master good data, particularly from the private factories, but relied on numbers collected by the food industry for purposes other than tracking(追踪) waste. This time, however, Hooch worked directly with companies at all stages along the food production chain and interviewed over 700 experts in the industry. Clearly he found it hard to believe what he was seeing.
This is what they found: Food processing causes 34% of food waste. This is followed by production, which causes 24%. Next is manufacturing at 13%, then hotels and restaurants at 9%. Families cause only 14%, and market sales 6%. This should be a serious wake-up call for Canadians who would do well to examine their own food supply chains. Food waste is costly, not only in terms of dollars wasted, but also in resources like land, water, and so on. To be using these resources and wasting the product is totally irresponsible and unnecessary.
To make matters worse, when food is thrown into rubbish cans, it produces methane, a greenhouse gas 30 times more powerful than carbon dioxide (CO2). At Canada’s rate of food waste, that's like adding 12 million cars to the road. It seems that the food industry needs redesigning. Therefore, let’s hope the government takes action.
9.What did earlier studies say about food waste in Canada?
A.Food waste was better than expected.
B.Food went bad when it was processed.
C.Most of the food was wasted on purpose.
D.Families were to blame for food waste.
10.How did Hooch do his study on food waste this time?
A.By studying data from the industry.
B.By tracking the whole production chain.
C.By collecting advice from experts worldwide.
D.By drawing a conclusion from the previous studies.
11.Why does food waste have an effect on the environment?
A.Because it is harmful to the trees.
B.Because it pollutes the soil around it.
C.Because it gives off unpleasant smells.
D.Because it produces more greenhouse gas.
12.What is the main idea of the text?
A.Canadians don’t like to save food for future.
B.More than half of the food is wasted in Canada.
C.Families are mainly responsible for food waste.
D.The food industry is better redesigned in Canada.

Returning to a book you’ve read many times can feel like drinks with an old friend. There’s a welcome familiarity - but also sometimes a slight suspicion that time has changed you both, and thus the relationship. But books don’t change, people do. And that’s what makes the act of rereading so rich and transformative.
The beauty of rereading lies in the idea that our bond with the work is based on our present mental register. It’s true, the older I get, the more I feel time has wings. But with reading, it’s all about the present. It’s about the now and what one contributes to the now, because reading is a give and take between author and reader. Each has to pull their own weight.
There are three books I reread annually .The first, which I take to reading every spring is Emest Hemningway’s A Moveable Feast. Published in 1964, it’s his classic memoir of 1920s Paris. The language is almost intoxicating (令人陶醉的),an aging writer looking back on an ambitious yet simpler time. Another is Annie Dillard’s Holy the Firm, her poetic 1975 ramble (随笔) about everything and nothing. The third book is Julio Cortazar’s Save Twilight: Selected Poems, because poetry. And because Cortazar.
While I tend to buy a lot of books, these three were given to me as gifs, which might add to the meaning I attach to them. But I imagine that, while money is indeed wonderful and necessary, rereading an author’s work is the highest currency a reader can pay them. The best books are the ones that open further as time passes. But remember, it’s you that has to grow and read and reread in order to better understand your friends.
13.Why does the author like rereading?
    A.It evaluates the writer-reader relationship.
B.It’s a window to a whole new world.
C.It’s a substitute for drinking with a friend.
D.It extends the understanding of oneself.
14.What do we know about the book A Moveable Feast?
    A.It’s a brief account of a trip.
B.It’s about Hemingway’s life as a young man.
    C.It’s a record of a historic event.
D.It’s about Hemingway’s friends in Paris.
15.What does the underlined word "currency" in paragraph 4 refer to?
    A.Debt
    B.Reward.
    C.Allowance.
    D.Face value.
16.What can we infer about the author from the text?
    A.He loves poetry.
    B.He’s an editor.
    C.He’s very ambitious.
    D.He teaches reading.

Carbon dioxide is released when oil, coal, and other fossil fuels are burned for energy—the energy we use to power our homes, cars, and smartphones. By using less of it, we can limit our own contribution to climate change while also saving money.____17____.
    Buy energy-efficient appliances
Since they were first set in 1987, efficiency standards for dozens of appliances and products have kept 2.3 billion tons of carbon dioxide out of the air. That's about the same amount as the yearly carbon pollution coughed up by nearly 440 million cars. When shopping for refrigerators, washing machines, and other appliances, look for the Energy Star label.____18____.
    Reduce water waste
Saving water reduces carbon pollution, too. That's because it takes a lot of energy to pump, heat, and treat your water.____19____. Turn off the tap while brushing your teeth. And switch to water-efficient equipment. If one out of every 100 American homes did this, about 100 million kilowatt-hours of electricity per year would be saved, avoiding 80,000 tons of global warming pollution.
    ____20____
Gas-smart cars, such as hybrids and fully electric cars, save fuel and money. And once all cars and light trucks meet 2025's clean car standards, which means averaging 54.5 miles per gallon, they'll be a mainstay. For good reason: Compared with the 2011 standards, Americans will spend $80 billion less at the gas station each year and cut their emissions by half. Before you buy a new set of wheels, compare fuel-economy performance.
    Rethink planes, trains, and cars
Choosing to live in walkable smart-growth cities and towns with quality public transportation leads to less driving, less money spent on fuel, and less pollution in the air.
____21____. Air transport is a major source of climate pollution. If you can take a train instead, do that.
    A.So take shorter showers
    B.Drive a fuel-efficient car
C.Cut down on your water consumption completely
D.It will tell you which are the most efficient
E.Change only happens when individuals take action
F.Less frequent flying can make a big difference, too
G.Here are some effective ways each one of us can make a difference

根据第一段最后两句“But books don’t change, people do. And that’s what makes the act of rereading so rich and transformative.(但是书没变,人变了。那就是使重新阅读行为如此丰富和富于变化之处)”和第二段“The beauty of rereading lies in that our bond with the work is based on our present register. It is true, the older I get, the more I feel time has wings.(重新阅读的美妙之处在于我们与作品的联系是基于我们现在的心理状态。真的,我年纪越大,就越觉得时光飞逝。)”可推知,作者喜欢重新阅读是因为重新阅读可以扩展对自己的理解。故选D项。
14.推理判断题。根据倒数第二段“Published in 1964, it’s his classic memoir of 1920s Paris.”及“an aging writer looking back on an ambitious yet simpler time”可知,这本书出版于1964年,这是他关于20世纪20年代在巴黎的经典回忆录,是他老年时对那些野心勃勃却更简单的日子的回顾。
根据最后一段中“while money is indeed wonderful and necessary,(虽然金钱确实是美妙而必要的)”可知,前后句为转折关系,根据上下文的语境可推知,“rereading an author’s work is the highest currency a reader can pay them.”
根据倒数第二段“The third book is Julio Cortázar’s Save Twilight: selected poems, because poetry.(第三本书是胡里奥·科塔扎的《拯救暮光之城: 诗歌精选》,因为诗歌)”可知,作者是由于喜欢诗歌而喜欢这本书。故选A项。

17.根据上文“Carbon dioxide is released when oil, coal, and other fossil fuels are burned for energy—the energy we use to power our homes, cars, and smartphones. By using less of it, we can limit our own contribution to climate change while also saving money.(当石油、煤炭和其他化石燃料燃烧为能源时,二氧化碳就会被释放出来——这些能源是我们用来为房屋、汽车和智能手机提供动力的。通过使用更少的碳,我们可以限制自己对气候变化的贡献,同时也节省了资金)”结合后文主要提出了一些可以减少碳排放的方法,故G选项“这里有一些我们每个人都能有所作为的有效方法”符合语境,故选G。
18.根据上文“Since they were first set in 1987, efficiency standards for dozens of appliances and products have kept 2.3 billion tons of carbon dioxide out of the air. That's about the same amount as the yearly carbon pollution coughed up by nearly 440 million cars. When shopping for refrigerators, washing machines, and other appliances, look for the Energy Star label.(自1987年首次制定能效标准以来,数十种电器和产品的能效标准已经使空气中减少了23亿吨二氧化碳。这相当于近4.4亿辆汽车每年产生的碳污染。在购买冰箱、洗衣机和其他电器时,寻找有“能源之星”标签的商品)”可知,上文提到在购买冰箱、洗衣机和其他电器时,寻找有“能源之星”标签的商品,故本句承接上文继续说明原因:“能源之星”标签会告诉你哪些电器是效率最高的。D选项中It指代上文the Energy Star label。
19.根据上文“Saving water reduces carbon pollution, too. That's because it takes a lot of energy to pump, heat, and treat your water.(节约用水也减少了碳污染。这是因为它需要大量的能量来抽取、加热和处理你的水)”以及后文“Turn off the tap while brushing your teeth. And switch to water-efficient equipment. If one out of every 100 American homes did this, about 100 million kilowatt-hours of electricity per year would be saved, avoiding 80,000 tons of global warming pollution.(刷牙时关掉水龙头。转而使用节水设备。如果每100个美国家庭中就有一个这样做,每年将节省大约1亿千瓦时的电力,避免8万吨全球变暖污染)”可知,本段的建议是节约用水,且本句与后文并列,都是在举例说明生活中节约用水的具体例子,故A选项“所以淋浴时间短一些”符合语境,故选A。
20.根据本段内容“Gas-smart cars, such as hybrids and fully electric cars, save fuel and money. And once all cars and light trucks meet 2025's clean car standards, which means averaging 54.5 miles per gallon, they'll be a mainstay. For good reason: Compared with the 2011 standards, Americans will spend $80 billion less at the gas station each year and cut their emissions by half. Before you buy a new set of wheels, compare fuel-economy performance.(汽油智能汽车,比如混合动力车和全电动汽车,既省油又省钱。一旦所有轿车和轻型卡车达到2025年的清洁汽车标准,即平均每加仑54.5英里,它们将成为主流。理由很充分:与2011年的标准相比,美国人每年在加油站的花费将减少800亿美元,排放量将减少一半。在你买一套新轮胎之前,比较一下燃油经济性)”可知,本段的建议是驾驶省油型汽车。故B选项“开省油的车”符合语境,故选B。
21.根据后文“Air transport is a major source of climate pollution. If you can take a train instead, do that.(航空运输是气候污染的一个主要来源。如果你可以坐火车,那就这样做吧)”可知,本段的建议是少乘坐飞机,故F选项“不经常乘飞机也会带来很大的不同”符合语境,故选F。

    58.                                                                     Should We Help Strangers?
Recently our class had a discussion about whether we should help strangers. Different students have different opinions.
Some think we should try to help strangers. Helping others is a virtue, and helping others is helping ourselves. We may come across some trouble and need others’ help some day. If everyone isn’t willing to help us just because we are strangers to them, it’s hard to imagine what our world will be like.
However, some are afraid that helping others can sometimes bring us trouble. Sometimes we are just misunderstood and even have to pay the cost of kindness.
In my opinion, we should try our best to help others when they are in need of help, but we should also protect ourselves from getting into trouble. If everyone tries a little kindness, our world will be full of love.
