Some of the World’s Finest Stained Glass(彩色玻璃)Artworks
La Sainte-Chappelle, France
While many say that Paris' must-see cathedral is Notre Dame do Paris, Sainte-Chapelle should also be high up on the list. Louis IX ordered it to be built in 1239 to house the Crown of Thorns, a famous relic from Constantinople. Within the ceilings of the church are fifteen of the world's finest stained glass windows. Unfortunately, as a result of the French Revolution, one third of the stained glass had to be replaced.
The Chicago Cultural Center, the USA
While the Windy City might not house the nation's winningest sports teams, it does have one of the world's most eye-catching displays of stained glass. Today's Chicago Cultural Center, which was designed as a library in 1887, has a 38-foot-tall Tiffany glass dome(圆屋顶)which is said to be the largest Tiffany dome in the world.
Erawan Museum, Thailand
The Erawan Museum, built in 1994,houses ancient, priceless Thai artworks, all of which are displayed within the building's three floors, and is said to symbolize the three levels of the universe.
The shiny stained glass is on the second floor, which museum owner Khun Lek Viriyapant considers to be the human level. Designed by German artist Jacob Schwarzkopf, the stained glass artwork shows five continents, with the sun delivering light, and therefore life, into all.
Saint Vitus Cathedral, Czech Republic
While the Czech church whose doors many travelers pass through every day was built way back in 1344, its amazing display of stained glass is a 20th-century donation from a well-known Czech Art Nouveau artist Alfons Mucha. The artwork fits well into Prague, the city where the stained glass is displayed. After all, it is the modern-day Czech Republic from which dreamy bohemians(放荡不羁的艺术家) came.

A. Erawan Museum.
B. La Sainte-Chapelle.
C.Saint Vitus Cathedral.

Tommy,a 26-year-old chimp(猩猩), lives in a small cage in a used truck sales lot in New York. Retired from movie work and whatever else once occupied him, he has no chimp friends-just a TV. He is worlds away from the rainforest of Western Africa, where chimps spend most of their. lives in trees, hunting, and socializing together.
His owner hasn't broken any laws, but an animal rights group called the Nonhuman Rights Project (NhRP) is trying to change the view. The group says chimps have such a humanlike intelligence that they should be recognized as “legal persons" and be placed in an animal shelter and wander free.
You've probably heard the term “animal rights", but animals don't actually have rights in many countries. Animal-welfare laws punish people who mistreat animals, but that's not the same as chimps having a right to liberty or anything else.
NhRP's first step is to ask a judge to end people's unjust arrest on behalf of Tommy and other privately owned chimps. If the court(法庭)decides to recognize chimps as legal persons,NhRP’s next step will be arguing for what rights the chimps should be guaranteed. "The right that they should have is the right to bodily liberty," says Wise, a NhRP group member." They should be able to choose how to live their lives.”
Tommy's owner, Pat Lavery, says he rescued Tommy from a careless owner about a decade ago and denies the chimp is mistreated or unhappy. "He likes being by himself,". he says.
“There's a danger in making a jump to say they're just like people," says Richard Cupp, a professor who writes about animals and the law. " If we really believe chimps are very, very smart, then who knows if maybe someday we might ...say, 'Hey, here's a particular human being that's not very smart at all, maybe the chimps have higher status than this person."”
34.What can we infer from the text?
A.Great progress has been made on improving animal rights.
B.Pat Lavery is thought to mistreat Tommy by NhRP.
C.Animal rights are going from bad to worse.
D.Animal rights have been admitted in western countries.
35.What's the final goal NhRP wants to achieve?
A.To ensure chimps' bodily safety.
C.To help chimps find their families
B. To stop illegal hunting of chimps.
D.To help chimps enjoy their freedom.
36.What's Richard Cupp's attitude towards NhRP's efforts to win rights for chimps?
A. Hopeful.
B. Uncaring.
C. Worried.
D. Supportive
C
Recently researchers are discovering that learning is easier, quicker and more long-lasting if it involves the body. To some extent, the discovery should come as no surprise. Consider that many of us probably began to understand basic arithmetic(算术)by counting on our fingers before learning to count in our head.
Conventional thinking had it that as we grew, we became more able to think abstractly(抽象地), which might suggest teachers should help wean children off body gestures to prepare them for the adult world. But in truth, the physical world never really leaves our thinking. For example, when we process verbs such as lick, kick and pick, medical scanners show that the parts of our brain that control the muscles in our face, legs and hands become more active.
This theory is called embodied cognition(体验认知),and it suggests that what goes on in our minds comes from our actions and interactions with the world around us. It means that encouraging children to think and learn in a completely abstract way might actually make lessons harder for them to understand and remember.
Science is beginning to support the idea that actions really might speak louder than words in the classroom. Spencer Kelly, a psychologist at Colgate University in New York, has found that people spend three times as much time making gestures when the message they convey is particularly important. Kelly has also found evidence that students like a teacher better when that teacher uses arm and hand movements to emphasize points. Meanwhile, Susan Wagner Cook, a psychologist at the University of Iowa in Iowa City, has found that children pick up new concepts more effectively if they are taught to mirror and repeat the gestures their teacher uses, and that lessons involving words and gestures live longer in a student's memory than lessons using words alone.
37. What does the underlined phrase “wean children off body gestures" in paragraph 2 mean?
A.Let children be aware of body gestures.
B.Make children stop using body gestures.
C.Give children an account of body gestures.
D. Encourage children to use body gestures.
38.According to embodied cognition, which of the following statements can be inferred?
A. Our minds can help shape reality.
B. It's not easy to understand abstract concepts.
C.The environment around is important for one's cognition.
D. Interacting with the world improves one's memory.
39.What can we learn from Spencer Kelly's study?
A. Body movements can raise a teacher's popularity.
B. Young students like to mirror their teacher's gestures.
C.Using body gestures makes students love learning.
D. Body language is more powerful than spoken language.
40.What is the text mainly about?
A. A study on classroom teaching.
B. The dark side of thinking abstractly.
C. The function of body language.
D.A new finding about learning.

We've been test-driving some new cars recently. I prefer the clean and simple design inside. For some reasons, many car makers have been shifted from physical controls to touch screens. 41_Instead of lots of physical buttons, you have a single touch screen. You can use it to move between the different controls.
The touch screen is a single system for many controls in your car. So simple? Actually, not simple at all.42_It will always be more challenging to use. It will likely take more time to use for each function. Worse still, the touch screen may also put you at greater risk of being in an accident.
In a car with buttons and other physical controls, you can often perform the same tasks without looking._43_And you most likely receive physical feedback(反馈)through your fingers letting you know you've succeeded. Buttons are probably faster than touch screens. With a button, you reach over and easily get your fingers on it.
44_They may be effective, but many also require multiple attempts to work. If you've ever asked your phone to do something, you know there are still challenges in speech recognition.
However, if you need to use the touch screen to control systems in your car, I have a few suggestions. Get your basic setup running before your car is running down the road. If you have a passenger, let that person control the touch screen.45
A. But this also means extra steps for each action.
B. The touch screen is far more complex than buttons.
C.New cars are often completely touch screen-controlled.
D.Physical controls have great advantages over touch screens.
E.Always keep your eyes on the road instead of the fancy screen.
F.You know when your hand is in the right place to use the controls.
G.Some cars with touch screen controls can respond to voice commands.

第二节读后续写(满分25分)
阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。
It was the 9th of January, a day I will remember for a long time. It was a normal Sunday morning around 8:30 am, right on time for Sammy's morning walk. I didn't walk because of my lameness(跛),so I rode in my power wheelchair. We got out the door and made our way toward a property(房地产)near my apartment complex. We got to the gate and out of the complex, and we went left onto the extra wide sidewalk. It was about a mile's walk one way, passing a firehouse on the right side of the road, before we turned around and started back.
Along the path we took was a large plate over the sidewalk. I passed over it the first time without any problems. My wheelchair could reach up to 8 miles per hour, but we went a little slower on our walks, around 2 miles per hour, so Sammy could keep up. Even so, this speed was pretty fast for a 15-year-old dog.
As we turned around and made our way back, I went over the sidewalk plate again except that this time it was moved without me realizing it, putting my wheelchair in the grass on the embankment(路堤).The next thing I knew,my wheelchair started to tip over, throwing me out of the chair and rolling down the embankment into the muddy water below.
My right leg was hurt, and I was unable to pull myself upright. I was too weak to gather my strength to call for help. The muddy water was cold and I felt it hard to breathe with my body folded and twisted in a strange position. Meanwhile, Sammy was sitting up on the sidewalk with his leash(牵狗皮带)caught under the tipped over wheelchair. I heard him barking louder than ever heard. He knew I was hurt and was in danger.
By the way my wheelchair tipped over, a passerby on the street would not be able to see it from the road. All anyone could see was a dog barking on the sidewalk almost night across the street from the firehouse.
注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Paragraph 1 I could tell Sammy was trying to help me.

作文一
参考范文:
Nowadays, more and more youngsters hope to become an internet celebrity by making short-form mobile videos. Last Friday our English club had a debate on the topic. Opinions fell mainly into two groups.
Some students in favour of the idea thought youngsters could show their talents by making the videos. Besides, they believed it could help them gain more confidence. On the contrary, others were against it. They argued that it may lead the youth to be addicted to the Internet. What's worse, some young people might feel that success could come from luck but not hard work.
Personally, I’m in favour of the first view. As long as we use the Internet properly, its advantages outweigh its disadvantage.

作文二
参考范文:
I could tell Sammy was trying to help me. Seeing I couldn't move and what a bad situation I was in, Sammy could sense I was hurt seriously and badly in need of help. Sammy couldn't run to others for help because his leash
was tied under the wheelchair. What he could do was to bark to ask for help. Therefore, he barked violently, hoping to let others notice him. Luckily, it worked. The fireman heard the sound and came over to help.
Three firemen came to my dog's aid finally. After untying the dog's leash, Sammy quickly ran to me to me. Because of Sammy, the fireman noticed me, and they called the emergency. I was taken into hospital immediately. After a week in the hospital, I was good enough to leave. I appreciated my dogs too much. It was my dog that saved my life.

W:Oh.Well, the bus system isn't great. There are long lines, and traffic is bad. It's a good thing you take the subway.
M:Good to know. Well, thank you for your help, Emily.
W: Not at all. I'll have to get a taxi to the stadium. There is a basketball game tonight.
M:Wow,I've never been to a basketball game before. It must be interesting. Have a good night.
W:Thank you. Bye.

Alex Lin is a 16-year-old boy. One day, he read about something called e-waste in the newspaper. He learned that when
people buy new computers, TV sets, phones, washing machines, etc. ,they simply throw the old ones away. These things are
called electronic waste, or e-waste. Alex also learned that e-waste is dangerous to the environment. He decided to do
something about it. To help stop e-waste, Alex got help from a charity group called WIN. WIN sends people the message
about e-waste and gives people a chance to recycle and reuse their e-waste. Alex also found there's a project run by WIN
that helps the environment and people's lives. With the help of WIN, Alex saved more than 200 pounds of e-waste that was
about to be thrown away. They fixed about 300 computers and gave half of them to the students in Alex's town. They also
set up two computer centers for schools. Now they are trying to work with the United Nations Environment Programme.
The computer centers will donate computers to the poor students in Central America and Africa.
