I have a student named Joe, he always arrived early in my classroom. As a 63-year-old man, he always respected other students as if all of them were his teachers.
One day, I met Joe by chance. He said he was forced to give up his studies because of lack of money. He didn’t want to drop out of school. He asked me whether he could still attend my reading class. “Sure,” I answered. Soon there he was back at his old desk again. He still worked hard as before, which made his classmates inspired.
Joe said he wanted to stay in school until he got a master’s (硕士) degree. However, it probably took him twelve years to finish the community college, so he had a long way to go.
Joe was born in a poor family. His seven brothers and sisters didn’t go to college. Joe decided to be the first one, though he started late. He made it real.
“Although he is not so young, he is the most hard-working and active student in the class,” said Grant Hunter. “He sets a good example to his classmates and encourages them to work hard.” Joe told us that study is a lifelong course and that you are never too old to learn. Life is created by ourselves.

You’ve probably heard many times how exercise is good for you. But do you know that there are two kinds of exercise?
Aerobic (有氧的) exercise
Like other muscles (肌肉), the heart enjoys a good workout (锻炼). You can provide it with one in the form of aerobic exercise. Aerobic exercise is any kind of exercise that gets the heart working better. When you often give your heart this kind of workout, it will get stronger and better.
If you play team sports, you’re probably meeting 60 minutes or more of physical activity on practice days. Some team sports that give you a great aerobic workout are basketball, soccer, and football. But if you don’t play team sports, don’t worry—there are lots of ways to get aerobic exercise on your own or with friends. These include biking, running, swimming, skating, and walking quickly. In fact, these kinds of exercise that you do on your own are easier to go on when you leave high school.
Strength (力量) training
The heart isn’t the only muscle that can become better because of exercise. Most of the other muscles in your body enjoy exercise too. When you use your muscles and they become stronger, you can be active for longer periods of time without getting worn out.
Strong muscles help protect you when you exercise by helping to prevent injuries (伤害). Muscles also burn more energy than fat when a person is at rest, so building up your muscles will help you burn more calories (卡路里) and keep a healthy weight.
19.What can we know about aerobic exercise from Paragraph 2?
A.Doing it often is good for our heart.
B.Only it can help us have a stronger heart.
C.Only strong persons can do it more.
D.The longer you do it, the better your heart will be.
20.How does the writer show us aerobic exercise is any kind of exercise that gets the heart working better?
A.With pictures. B.With examples. C.With experiences. D.With questions.
21.How does strength training help us?
①By making us become stronger.
②By making us active for longer time.
③By preventing us from hurting ourselves.
④By helping us keep a healthy weight.
A.①②③ B.②③④ C.①③④ D.①②③④
22.What is the best title for this passage?
A.The Good of Exercise to People B.The Best Time to Do Exercise
C.Two Different Kinds of Exercise D.The Importance of Exercise

On the fourteenth day of the eighth month of 2021, it rained at the highest point of the Greenland ice sheet(格陵兰冰盖) . This is normally the coldest part of the ice sheet and there has never been rain before. It’s such a big weather change that people think it is because of the climate change.
The Greenland ice sheet is a layer(层) of ice about 2.3 kilometers thick on average. It covers a huge area-about 1,833,900 square kilometers. It’s one of the planet’s two biggest ice sheets. The other one is on Antarctica(南极洲) .
The Greenland ice sheet is normally a quite cold place. The ice sheet’s summit, or highest point, is normally even colder. It’s two miles above sea level and 500 miles (about 800 kilometers) away from the Arctic Circle(北极圈) . So it’s very peculiar for the temperature to be above freezing(冰点) at the summit.
Though scientists have been studying the summit closely for over 40 years, they have never seen rain there before. Still, that’s exactly what happened on August 14. The temperature rose to just above freezing at the summit, and it rained for several hours. The event was so surprising that the scientists didn’t even have the proper tools to measure how much rain fell.
Ted Scambos is a scientist studying glaciers(冰川) . He said, “It’s hard to imagine such a thing without the influence of global climate change.”
23.What happened to the highest point of the Greenland ice sheet according to Paragraph 1?

B.The temperature at the top of the Greenland ice sheet is hardly below zero.
C.The rain at the top of the Greenland ice sheet lasted several days.
D.Scientists have been studying the summit for many months.
25.Why didn’t scientists have the proper tools to measure rainfall?
A.Because they didn’t know where the tools were.
B.Because they didn’t think it would rain there.
C.Because they lost the tools.
D.Because they broke the tools in an accident.
26.What is the best title for the passage?
A.Climate change around the world
B.The environment problems of Greenland
C.First known rain at top of the Greenland ice sheet
