US Schools Struggle with Behavior
American students had been learning at home for more than a year during the pandemic. When they returned to in-person learning, teachers began to see more behavioral problems. Bad behavior among students is part of a mental health crisis among children. Even before the pandemic, research found that bad behavior in the classroom was increasing. School officials provide enough support to deal with the crisis at Putnam. For the school of around just 250 students, there is also a counselor(辅导员), social worker, and two recently hired interventionists.
Since the pandemic started, experts have warned of a mental health crisis facing American children. The silver lining is special mental training for teachers. This training helps teachers learn warning signs of mental health risks and substance abuse in children, and how to prevent a tragedy. The program is run by the National Council for Mental Wellbeing and is available in every state in the U.S. The trained teacher can help students in trouble and let them know teachers care; let them know teachers want to help.
Use Photos for Speaking, Writing Activities
One way to get students to talk is to show them photos and ask them to talk about what they see. Teachers can use photos to help students practice new grammar points. If you are studying prepositions, you might ask, What do you see on...? If you want your students to use the past tense, you can ask, What did they do before someone took this photo? After a discussion, you can ask your students to begin a story with a statement related to the photo. Write about the picture. If you try this activity, you will find the old expression is true in more ways than one. A picture is worth a thousand words.

During my teen years, I wasn’t an outgoing person at all. I was never interested in volunteering. I just thought it was something people who had a lot of free time did. My view of volunteering changed when I started university. I heard new friends talk about all the ways they had helped others and, in return, had improved themselves.
I started volunteering when I was 19 years old. As an English major(专业) I volunteered in kindergartens to teach children English. Later, I realized I wasn’t getting anything new out of my volunteer service. I decided to move out of my comfort zone. I volunteered at different art festivals. These opportunities helped me to greatly improve my organizational and communication skills.
The most important and life-changing volunteering experience for me came in the summer of 2019. It became clear to me that volunteering locally was not enough. It was time for me to try volunteering abroad. I spent a month and a half in Romania teaching English to children from poor families. That experience helped me to improve my teaching skills. It also completely changed me as a person. I met people from all over the world and learned to work together with them. Since then, I have made many international friends. These days, I am always able to do better than my colleagues whenever my job requires cross-cultural communication.
Volunteering is one of the best things you could ever do, both for yourself and for the people you are going to help along the way. Don’t ever hesitate to join the community of volunteers!

D. Making more foreign friends can help you work better.

In many countries, pets are well loved . In America, 95 percent of pet owners think of their animals as family members. About half buy them birthday gifts. And it's a two-way street. People who have pets tend to have lower blood pressure. They also have a lower heart-disease risk.
Scientists are finding more and more evidence that animals can also help improve mental health. Some clinics have been using " pet therapy "(宠物疗法)alongside traditional medicine . Here is a look at some of the cures .
In one study, scientists told a group of stressed-out adults to pat a rabbit and a rabbit toy. The toy had no effect. Touching the living rabbit, however, reduced anxiety(焦虑).

Horses are among the most-studied therapy animals. In Europe, they have been involved in medical treatment plans since the 1860s. Activities like brushing the fur of a horse have been shown to reduce anxiety in people of all ages.
One of the study focused on people who had Alzheimer's disease (阿尔茨海默氏病). When they dined in front of a tank of colorful fish, they ate more.
Children who struggle with reading are less anxious when they read aloud to a trained dog. Their attitudes change and their skills improve.

七、书面表达 (本大题 15 分)
(One Possible Version)
Reading during Spring Festival
My Family Rules
Spring Festival has gone.
It's the biggest and the most important traditional festival in China. Although the serious epidemic situation is ending, it was convenient for people to visit relatives and friends. We had sweet time to enjoy ourselves. Then people stayed at home reading at least an hour a day to spend the holiday. They also shared the books they were interested in with their friends online.
I think it's meaningful to spend Spring Festival like that. It can keep people safe and feed their minds.

M: Yes, it went on as you could imagine. Would you like to go with me?
W: I’d love to, but I have a test on the morning of February 9th. What a pity!

M: Hi, Becky. My teacher asks me to talk to you about doing volunteer work in Africa.
W: I am glad to tell you about my experience. I worked as a volunteer last year for six
months. There are a lot of jobs for volunteers in Africa. What do you want to do?
M: I feel like working with animals. I want to help look after young elephants.
W: But you must think about it carefully. You have to know about African customs and
make sure you are healthy. You’d better have good communication skills
M: Why?
W: That’s because you don’t work on your own. You will work with a team.
M: OK. Thank you for your advice. I will think twice before making a decision.
W: It’s my pleasure. If you think it’s right for you, you can go online to volunteer today,
that’s one world.com. Or you can call them at 5553341665. If you have any questions, you can call me at 5552364556.

Text 16
It was my friend Christina's birthday last Tuesday so we decided to go out for a meal.We booked a table for six o'clock at a nice restaurant in town and arranged to meet at five to six, outside the restaurant. I live in a small village about six kilometers from the town and my dad kindly offered to drive me to the restaurant. Unfortunately, his car broke down on the way, and we had to wait for the garage to send out a worker to get the car started again. Anyway, that made me very late. Everyone else was there and was already eating. It was then that I realized that I didn't have Christina's present or card with me--they were in Dad's car. I felt terrible as everyone else gave Christina something for her birthday. Everything went fine until the end of the meal. We got the bill and were working out how much each person had to pay when I realized that I didn't have my wallet with me, either. I had to borrow some money from one of my friends.
