As you move out of your teens and into your 20s and 30s, your musical tastes start to solidify and you likely quit keeping up with popular music. Now, research has found the average age at which your music library is unlikely to change: 33.
The study's author reached this conclusion by analyzing data on U. S. Spotify users and comparing it to artist popularity data from music intelligence company The Echo Nest.
To determine the age at which we stop seeking out new tunes, the author gathered self-reported age data from Spotify and looked at users' " Taste Profiles," which tracks how many times listeners have streamed individual artists. These artists were then matched to their popularity rank on The Echo Nest.
The average teen listens almost only to music among the Billboard, the 200 highest-ranking albums in the country, but this music represents a smaller part of their streaming as they age. In their teens, they listen to a lot of the same music, over and over again. Frank T. McAndrew, a professor of psychology at Knox College, explains that's the "mere exposure effect" at work, and it basically means, the more we're exposed to something, the more we like it.
There are many reasons why a person may stop streaming the current top musical hits, and the author looked into one by identifying Spotify listeners with large amounts of children's music and nursery rhymes in their libraries. In other words, when users may have become parents.
But the study concludes with some good news for parents: “If you're getting older and can't find yourself staying as relevant as you used to, have no fear — just wait for your kids to become teenagers, and you'll get exposed to all the popular music of the day once again!”
24.What happens after teens grow older?
A.They quit listening to music. B.Their interest in music fades.
C.They change their music libraries. D.Their musical tastes become stable.
25.What is the way of the research?
A.Interviews. B.Analyzing data.
C.Observation. D.Tracking popularity.
26.How do teens develop their musical tastes?
A.They listen to what they like repeatedly.
B.They act like their favorite popular stars.
C.They experience different styles of music.
D.They like high-ranking music worldwide.
27.What's the good news for parents in the last paragraph?
A.Parents will regain their faith in music.
B.Parents will influence their teens in music.
C.Parents will hear their favorite music again.
D.Parents will enjoy the music for teens again.
Rich Anderson says he isn’t scared of sharks and he is appealing to others to learn to love them.
“I try to convince people that looking at a shark eye to eye is totally different to sitting on a surfboard or a boat looking at every shadow that goes underneath thinking it’s a shark coming to get them,” he said. “Eye to eye they look at you, you look at them and you go your own way.”
“I find that once people see their first sharks, their whole attitude changes. They realize that they are not as scary as what they thought they were,” Mr. Anderson said. He compares sharks to dogs, in the way they show their behavior and attitude towards humans. “You are not going to go up to a dog that it arching(拱起) its back and making a low sound in the throat at you,” he said. “If a shark is arching and its fins(鳍) are down, it’s telling you to move on.” He admits he thought the shark was trying to attack him the first few times.
Mr. Anderson is against the controversial policy introduced in Western Australia to kill a shark if it presents a threat to humans. He said many of the same things that occur in Western Australia are also happening in New South Wales.
Anderson said that sharks come closer to shore because they are attracted to the smell of whale bodies which have broken down after being buried in the sand on many beaches.
Mr. Anderson often sees gray nurse sharks, fur seals, leopard seals, penguins and fishes of a range of colours in the Pacific Ocean along Bellingen Shire. “Depending on the time of the year, you can get a good mixture of sea creatures moving through there,” he said. Tiger sharks are his favourite kind of sharks. He describes them as pig-headed but also elegant creatures.
28.What does Mr. Anderson probably do?
A.A diver. B.A surfer.
C.A boatman. D.A fisherman.
29.What does Mr. Andersan try to tell us by comparing sharks to dogs?
A.Sharks have the same behaviour as dogs.
B.Sharks are naturally friendly to human beings.
C.Sharks can send messages through their behavior.
D.Sharks can be lovely creatures if properly trained.
30.What mistake did Mr. Anderson once make?
A.He never looked at sharks eye to eye.
B.He once saw sharks as a scary animal.
C.He didn’t allow sharks to get close to shores.
D.He misunderstood a shark’s arching its back.
31.What do we know about the Pacific Ocean along Bellingen Shire?
A.It’s a popular tourist destination.
B.It’s open in certain times of the year.
C.It’s Mr. Anderson’s favorite place.
D.It’s where Mr. Anderson trains sharks.
Half of US dog owners and 62 percent of American cat owners share the sheets with their pets, a practice that sleep experts warn can lead to sleep deprivation (剥夺). Besides,Mayo Clinic found that more than half of the patients seeking consultations at its sleep clinic were pet owners whose sleep was disturbed by their cats or dogs in 2014.
However, a 2018 study found that is not the case. Researchers from Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale, Arizona, surveyed 150 of the patients who visited the facility’s center for sleep medicine. Every participant received a piece of paper and answered questions on it about their sleeping habits, their pets’ behavior, sleeping locations and how their pets affected their nightly sleep.
The researchers found that 56 percent of the study participants shared their bed or bedroom with their cat or dog. However, while 20 percent reported disturbed sleep because of their pets, 41 percent said that their pets presence in bed actually helped them sleep better.
Those who reported sleeping more soundly when their pets were present said that having them in the bedroom or on the bed offered them relaxation and provided a sense of companionship and security. Single sleepers were especially likely to report that sharing a bed with a cat or dog helped them get some shut-eye.
“Participants described feeling secure, content and relaxed when their pet slept nearby,” the study authors wrote. “The value of these experiences, although poorly understood, cannot be dismissed because sleep is dependent on a state of physical and mental relaxation.”
A similar small study published by the researchers from the University of Alberta found that having pets in bed can help people with chronic (慢性的) pain sleep better, while also easing feelings of loneliness and anxiety.
“They liked the physical contact with their dogs — cuddling before bed, and how it distracted them from feeling anxious about being alone at night,” researcher Cary Brown said. “They felt more relaxed and safer, so they weren’t anxious as they were trying to sleep.”
32.What is the 2018 study based on?
A.A controlled experiment of sleep.
B.A questionnaire survey of the patients.
C.The comparison of the patients’ sleeping habits.
D.The long-term observation of all the participants.
33.What can be concluded from the two studies mentioned in the text?
A.Sleeping with pets is beneficial.
B.It is painful to sleep with pets.
C.Some people suffer from loneliness.
D.Physical relaxation is important to our health.
34.How do people sleeping with pets feel according to Cary Brown?
A.Distracted. B.Crowded.
C.Calm. D.Nervous.
35.What would be the best title for the text?
A.Sleeping has something to do with health
B.Owners can get on well with their pets
C.It is hard for people to sleep soundly
D.Pets may help you sleep better

Joseph Conrad, a famous English novelist, said that his goal as a writer was “to make you hear, to make you feel, and above all, to make you see. That, and no more, is everything.” ____36____ Often it leaves a single sharp impression to be turned over and over in the mind. After finishing the story, the reader should have something to think about: the humor of life, its ironies, or the unpredictability of human behavior.
____37____ The first and most obvious level is conveyed through the plot. Plot refers to the sequence of events, to the actions of the characters and the situations in which they are involved. To explain the plot, then, is to tell what happened in the story and to whom. In some short stories, plot is the dominating element. In other short stories, plot plays a very minor role.
In Hemingway’s story, The Old Man and the Sea, however, we must approach the content on another level. ____38____ To understand and appreciate the story, the reader must be able to identify its general topic or theme. The next step is to identify the device by which the author comments on this theme. ____39____
Readers cannot appreciate a short story fully unless they react not only to what has been said but also to how it has been said. ____40____ Style grows out of the writer’s own personality and can be seen in the choice of words and phrases, the arrangement of sentences, the rhythm and tone. Structure refers to the architecture of the story, the way in which the details are selected and arranged to produce the desired effect.
A.They must look for style and structure.
B.In complex stories, careful readers may not always agree with the author.
C.The impact on the reader comes from the sudden and unexpected response.
D.A good short story tries to give the reader a sense of the actual experience.
E.Finally, the reader should be able to explain the insights which the author has given into the theme.
F.The impact of the story comes from the insight it gives us into the needs and desires of youth and old age.
G.In order to read a short story with full understanding, the reader must approach the content on two levels.

第二节(满分25分)
67.阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Andrew was a new student in my class, who had emotional management problems. Since he had been suspended from class many times in previous years, I assured the worst when he came to my class.
Andrew sat at the back of the classroom. Every time I talked in front of the class, he would chat with the students around and even laugh loudly. Every time I called on him to answer a question, he would respond with a casual “I don’t know”. If I gave him a slight, criticism, he would become really angry. As an experienced teacher, I can always get students involved in class discussion or at least motivate them to sit quietly and listen attentively. But for Andrew, I was really powerless. He was just noisy and rude.
One day, Andrew was talking loudly in the class when I was teaching. I said in the usual tone of voice, “Andrew, why don’t you join in our discussions but have one of your own?” Hearing that, he got up from his chair, pushed the books over and shouted something. I couldn’t hear clearly what he said other than several rude words. After the class, Andrew was sent to my office, where I gave him a discipline referral a week’s out-of-school suspension. Deep in my mind, though, I didn’t expect referrals to be effective since students would return behaving even worse than before. But what else could I do with such a trouble-maker?
I had to admit this was one of my most awful teaching experiences. Andrew’s anger was almost unexpected and out of control. The week without Andrew’s presence was a wonderful time, and the class went on smoothly and efficiently. However, with his suspension week drawing to a close soon, I felt restless and uneasy. Would he disturb the class as always? Would he take revenge(报复)on me?
注意:1. 续写词数应为150左右:2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Para 1: On the day when Andrew was supposed to return, I waited for him at the door.

Para 2: A flash of surprise spread over his face.

【原文】We are receiving news that next year’s TT races on the Isle of Man have been canceled due to the on-going COVID-19 emergency. The festival, worth about £30 million to the island economy, brings tens of thousands of visitors each year. It has been held every year since 1907 and expected to take place from May 29th to June 12th. Enterprise Minister Laurence Skelly said the logical decision to cancel the event for a second year was needed to protect residents and visitors. The 2020 TT Festival was canceled in March, as the first wave of COVID-19 spread through much of Europe. The cancelation of next year’s motorcycle festival is another huge hit for the island’s tourism industry. The border has been closed for months to non-residents as the island government battles to prevent the high rates of COVID-19 seen throughout much of the UK. Mr. Skelly said the government could not commit to welcoming tens of thousands of people to the island in June‖ . Resident Anne Rostron, whose husband Brian is a former TT rider, said she could see why the decision had been taken, because it would be letting everybody in to the island. Her friend Judith Curtis said there were arguments for and against canceling the event, adding, It’s going to hit the island again financially, but you’ve got to think about the safety of the people. James McLaren said although it would be a disappointment, it was better to be safe than sorry.

67.On the day when Andrew was supposed to return, I waited for him at the door. Eventually, the familiar figure appeared, walking with his hands in his pockets. As he came close, I was about to greet him when he ignored me deliberately. “Sorry, Andrew. I should have had a talk with you to find a way out before giving you a suspension,” apologized I. With his head lowered, he didn’t utter a single word. “Maybe next time you can’t control yourself in class, you can step out of the door for a while to collect yourself,” added I, trying to break the ice.
A flash of surprise spread over his face. The naughty boy froze there, staring at me with wide eyes. “It is I who should say sorry,” murmured he, his face burning with shame. With a smile of relief, I patted him on his shoulder, signaling to him to go back to his seat. In the days that followed, Andrew didn’t misbehave in class anymore and took an active part in class discussions. Never before did it occur to me that “apologies” could make such a huge difference — it turned one of my worst experiences into perhaps the best one!
