Recently, a group of scientists decided to find out what the funniest joke in the world was. This is obviously a difficult task, as no two people really agree about what is funny and what is not — especially when they are from different countries.
Here is the joke which the experts decided was the funniest joke in the world:
Two hunters were out in the woods. One of them fell to the ground. He didn’t seem to be breathing; his eyes were closed. The other hunter took out his mobile phone and called the emergency services. “My friend is dead!” he cried to the operator. “What can I do?” The operator said, “Don’t worry. First, make sure he’s dead.” There was a silence, and then a shot was heard. Bang! The hunter’s voice came back on the line. He said, “OK, now what?”
This is perhaps amusing. Culturally, it depends on us knowing that often hunters are not considered to be very intelligent people, and that often they are quite violent. But perhaps this is not so all over the world. It’s also quite a black joke — a joke about something that isn’t really a funny subject. The experts also found the second funniest joke in the world. Here it is:
Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson went on a camping trip. After dinner, they went to sleep. Some hours later, Holmes woke up. “Watson, look up at the sky and tell me what you see.”
“I see millions of stars, Holmes,” replied Watson.
“And what do you infer from that?”
“Well, there are billions of stars... we are a small part of the universe.” “Watson, you idiot! (笨蛋)” he said. “Someone has stolen our tent!” I personally think this is better.
Can scientists in the end decide what is funny? Some things are much too complicated, even for scientists.
21.What can we learn from the first paragraph?
A.Few jokes can make scientists laugh.
B.Only scientists can find out the funniest joke.
C.There are different jokes in different countries.
D.People hold different opinions about what is funny.
22.What does the author think of the first joke?
A.It is not so funny as the experts thought.
B.It is really the funniest joke he has ever heard.
C.It can greatly affect readers’ attitudes toward hunters.
D.It shows that not all hunters are intelligent.
    23.What can affect a person’s understanding of a joke?
A.The person’s feeling. B.The length of the joke.
C.The person’s cultural background. D.The language that the teller uses.
24.Which of the following is the best title for this text?
A.Uninteresting Jokes B.Different Kinds of Jokes
C.The Funniest Joke in the World D.Tips on How to Make Others Laugh

People have always been defined by their generation. We had the baby boomers of the 1960s, followed by Generation X and then Generation Y, often referred to as millennials, and the new kids on the block are Generation Z - aged between 16 and 22. It's easy to classify these young people as all being the same, sharing the same attitudes towards life—but is that fair?
People from Generation Z, informally called "Z-ers", may be viewed by others as digital natives, incapable of real-world friendships. But they actually view themselves as hardworking, ambitious and about to change the world for the better. The previous generation, born between the mid-1980s and late 1990s - the millennials were also thought to have these characteristics. But many people view this new generation as “mini-millennials" because Z-ers are different and they have their own set of values and preferences which consumer brands need to cater for.
It's true to say that technology is playing an important part in the lives of Generation Z, particularly in the area of social media. In fact, they have not known life without it and using it to communicate, share ideas and campaign is second nature. It means they have more of a say on what we eat, drink and buy than any generation before them. These young people certainly need to be listened to by retailers (零售商) and businesses - they are the people with time on their hands and money.
But being a Z-er comes with pressure. One young person says "Many people in Generation Z have mental health issues because they're unsure what the future will bring." The future always brings uncertainties but maybe there is pressure for this generation to be the most successful ever.
28.When was a Z-er likely to be born?
    A.In 1964. B.In 1975.
    C.In 1987. D.In 1999.
29.What do Z-ers see themselves as?
A.Diligent and ambitious. B.Hardworking and incapable.
C.Promising and different. D.Stressed and successful.
30.What're Paragraphs 2&3 trying to argue?
A.Z-ers have known life without social media.
B.Z-ers pay too much attention to digital devices.
C.Z-ers and the millennials have the same personality.
D.Z-ers become a key driving force in the consumer market.
31.What docs the author think is the real cause of the Z-ers' pressure?
A.Their ambition to be the best. B.Their uncertainty of the future.
C.Their addiction to digital devices. D.Their lack of real-world friendship.
    D
Bees seem to fly aimlessly as they search for the sugary liquid called nectar (花蜜). But their flight plans actually do have a pattern. Flowers act as the insects’ air-traffic controllers. And new research shows bees prefer flowers that aren’t too flashy.
Flowers give bees clues about how much a plant can offer. Those clues can be in the color of petals, in the type, in the smell or even in the electrical charge. All of these characteristics send signals to the bees, telling them whether to land or not, among which the colors play the most significant role. The insects keep track of the color of the flowers that are especially rich in nectar. They then visit more flowers of that color.
However, color can’t guarantee bees a good meal. It may change depending on the angle at which sunlight hits its petals. A yellow follower, for example, may look somewhat blue from one angle and red from another. Beverley Glover studies plants at the University of Cambridge in England. Glover and her colleagues showed that even when the color of petals looks similar, bees behave differently in searching for nectar. They started to guess that the strength of petals’ indescence (色彩斑斓) might be related to how bees find the petals.
Glover and her colleagues tested their hypothesis in the lab. In their experiment, they found that bees felt confused sometimes when the petals were very iridescent and that bees had no problem finding the flowers with more nectar when the petals were not very iridescent. The team shared its new findings in the March 21 Current Biology.
“At first glance, it’s very surprising because animals can usually detect a more vivid signal more easily,” says Klaus Lunau, a biologist in Germany, who was not involved in the study.
32.What can we know about the flight of bees?
A.They usually fly in a regular pattern. B.They fly under the direction of flowers.
C.They usually fly without any purpose. D.They fly to some very flashy flowers.
33.What is the most important clue for bees to search for nectar?
A.The petals’ type. B.The followers’ smell.
C.The followers’ electrical charge. D.The petals’ color.
34.What does the underlined word “hypothesis” in Paragraph 4 probably mean?
    A.Discussion. B.Method.
    C.Assumption. D.Invention
35.What is the new finding of the team?
A.Petals that are not very flashy are better for bees to make adjustments.
B.Petals of different color usually give different signals.
C.Petals that are vivid are detected by bees more easily.
D.Petals of different types make bees confused to find the right flower.
