When you get ready to choose your natural shampoo (洗发水), make sure you read the label. It should never contain more than nine ingredients (成份). Otherwise, it is more likely to have harmful artificial ingredients. Some products state that they’re organic, but this isn’t always true. Try to find the following natural ingredients.
*Coconut Oil and Aloe Vera: These are known to stimulate the growth of hair by keeping your head skin moisturized (湿润).
*Organic Shea Butter: This will enhance the natural color and shine of your hair.
*Beta Glucan: This has immune-enhancing qualities that will start relieving your irritated (受刺激的) skin cells.
*Organic Tea Tree oil: This contains antiseptic (防腐剂) properties that will help maintain the health of your skin by preventing any skin irritants.
Keeping your hair beautiful, thick, and healthy is important. With natural hair care products, there are many different varieties that you can choose from. Make sure you do your research and pick out an option that’s going to be best for your hair: whether it’s already thick, whether it’s thinning, whether you’re losing hair, or whether you’re trying for a stronger look.
There are many reasons you should look for natural hair care products instead of choosing artificial options. There are also many places where you can buy them. If you care about your hair and want to promote hair growth while decreasing the number of chemicals that go into your hair, then you should look into purchasing more natural options. You won’t be disappointed.
    1. In which column of a magazine can we find this text?
    A. Education. B. Amusement. C. Life. D. Sports.
    2. What ingredient may ensure shining color of your hair according to the text?
    A. Coconut Oil and Aloe Vera. B. Organic Shea Butter.
    C. Beta Glucan. D. Organic Tea Tree Oil.
    3. What does the text mainly talk about?
    A. Doing more research. B. Promoting your hair growth.
    C. Choosing Natural Shampoo. D. Guaranteeing nine ingredients.
    B
It seems that every week we find out someone broke into a big company’s databases—like the recent Equifax data breach (违规)—and made off with millions of credit card numbers, passwords and other valuable information. And now a new kind of worry: someone could seize control of your wireless home network and steal your information from under your nose.
That’s the possibility raised by a couple of cyber security researchers from the Catholic University of Leuven in Belgium. The problem, they say, is a weakness in the very protocol meant to make wi-fi secure. That protocol is called Wi-Fi Protected Access II, WPA2. And WPA2’s weakness could allow an attacker within physical range of your wi-fi network to make a copy of that network that they could then control. The researchers call their approach a key reinstallation attack, or KRACK.
It’s important to know that a KRACK attack remains a possibility for now. The scientists realized the threat while investigating wireless security. They’ll present this research on November 1st at the Computer and Communications Security (CCS)conference in Dallas and in December at the Black Hat Europe conference in London.
In their KRACK assumption, wireless devices would be fooled into connecting to the false network. And the attacker would be able to access all of the information that devices send and receive while connected to that network—evon if that information has been coded. Android and Linux would be especially easy to attack because of how their encryption keys (密钥) are configured (设定).
One measure of protection against such an attack would be to make sure they you’ve installed (安装) the most up-to-date versions of your apps, browsers and wireless router software. Updated software is most likely to include the security patches (补丁) needed to avoid falling victim to a KRACK attack, because chances are that KRACK won’t remain simply a proof-of-concept for long.
    4. What are home Internet users concerned about now?
    A. Their Internet may be disconnected. B. Their credit cards might be inaccessible.
    C. Their home network might be destroyed. D. Their personal information might be stolen.
    5. How can the attacker take advantage of the WPA 2’s weakness?
    A. By installing a key. B. By approaching physical range.
C By copying and controlling the network. D. By controlling the Internet users.
    6. What can we learn from Paragraph 4?
    A. The false network contributes little to such attack.
    B. If coded, the information will be free from danger.
    C. Android is easy to attack for lack of encryption keys.
    D. All of the information might be accessible to the attacker.
    7. What can people do to protect against KRACK attack?
    A. Purchase the best-quality apps. B. Keep the proof of KRACK long.
    C. Ignore the patches of the computers. D. Install the latest relevant software.
    C
Working at a desk all day may not be as bad for your health as siting in front of a television after work. That is a finding of a new study done in the United States. It also suggests that not all forms of sitting are equally bad.
Jeanette Garcia works as a researcher at the University of Central Florida in Orlando and she led the study “We’ve been hearing more and more about how sitting is the new smoking.” she said. She added that other evidence suggests a relationship between health problems and time spent sitting.
“However, it’s been unclear whether all sitting is created equal, suggesting that as long as you reduce any type of sitting, then that’s helpful in improving health,” she added.
“This study suggests that this may not be the case, and that we should focus more on leisure time sitting, mainly television viewing time, rather than other sitting, in general.”
The study followed close to 3,600 African-American adults. Almost one-third of them watched TV for more than four hours a day. A little more than one-third of the subjects spent between two and four hours a day sitting in front of the TV. The remaining third watched TV for less than two hours a day. Researchers followed the group for an average of 8.4 years. During the study, 205 of the subjects died and 129 others suffered a heart attack or stroke (中风).
Compared to people who watched less than two hours of television daily, those who spent more than four hours in front of the TV were 49 percent more likely to die or have a heart attack or stroke.
But the undesirable health effects of watching TV appeared to be limited to adults who failed to get the recommended amount of weekly exercise. That is around 150 minutes of mild physical activity or 75minutes of strong exercise every week.
The study had some limitations, however. Lin Yang, another researcher, says that sitting in front of the TV might be worse than siting at a desk because people snack while watching TV. Some people simply stay up too late and do not get enough sleep.
“Eating treats or lack of sleep could both cause weight gain and increase risk factors for heart disease. These factors could make people more likely to die early,” she added.
    8. What can we learn from Jeanette Garcia’s study?
    A. All forms of sitting are equally bad.
    B. Less sitting helps to improve health.
    C. Sitting long has the same effect as smoking.
    D. Health problem has much to do with working at a desk.
    9. Which of the following will cause people to have the highest life risks?
    A. Watching TV long and snacking.
    B. Reading in the study for four hours a day.
    C. Failing to get recommended amount of exercise.
    D. Having 75 minutes of strong exercise every week.
    10. What should an adult do to reduce the high risk of life?
    A. Go on diets. B. Take enough exercise.
    C. Stay up late. D. Eat treats while siting.
    D
Consider a tale of two Amy veterans (退伍军人). Jeff served two terms in Afghanistan, moved home to the Midwest, graduated from college and landed a secure job in a firm. Matt fought alongside Jeff, left the Army at the same time and headed home to North Carolina. By the time he was in his 30s, though, Matt was unemployed and dependent on government checks.
Why did Jeff develop so well while Matt lost his civilian footing? The answer, according to Daniel M. Gade, a retired officer, and Daniel Huang, a former Wall Street Journal reporter, is the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA)—in particular, its strong disability system.
In their convincing description, the authors show in detail how a well-intended system can unintentionally lead fragile veterans, step by step, away from the worlds of work and community. The path typically starts just before separation from the service. Soldiers meet with VA representatives who emphasize opportunities to collect disability compensation (补偿). Jeff, for example, wanted to “get out and get on” with his life, while Matt took the VA agent’s advice “and applied for every condition he could think of.”
Matt’s career plan had been to attain an ideal job in law enforcement (执行) but the field was highly competitive. So be took a job with his dad’s construction company. But the physical damage of the job was too much for his knees and back. Deeply depressed, now out of work and living in his parents’ home, Matt tried college but felt unbearable. Meanwhile, anxious about his future, be kept applying for higher disability ratings—receiving, eventually, a monthly tax-free check over $3,000.
For many partially or fully disabled veterans, PTSD (创伤应急障碍) is their primary diagnosis (诊断). The condition, can be very weak, but it is also treatable. A psychologist told the authors that, when it comes to PTSD, the agency “has been doing harm to millions of veterans by telling them that they’re disabled.”
In Matt’s case, remarkably, even after the VA determined him to be “housebound,” it didn’t mandate (强制执行) treatment. “The natural athlete who had conquered his fear of heights to excel as an airborne (空降的) soldier,” the authors write, “had become a disabled man one year later.” The VA’s record on treatment in general looks poor: More veterans today, relative to their overall numbers, are compensated for disabilities than ever before in the VA’s history. Under 0.1% of the veterans who receive disability benefits for mental disorders have their benefits reduced over time because their condition has improved.
    11. What’s the purpose of Paragraph 1?
    A. To lead to the topic. B. To give examples.
    C. To clarify opinions. D. To introduce two veterans.
    12. Why did Matt fall into the difficult situation according to Daniel M. Gade and Daniel Huang?
    A. He depended too much on VA. B. He didn’t fight as bravely as Jeff.
    C. He didn’t benefit from the system. D. He was unwilling to work in a firm.
    13. What does the underlined expression probably mean in Paragraph 3?
    A. To follow the VA Agent’s advice.
    B. To stay away from work and community.
    C. To leave the army and get along well with other veterans.
    D. To earn his own living rather than apply for compensation.
    14. What attitude did Matt take facing his present situation?
    A. Positive. B. Negative. C. Optimistic. D. Cautious.
    15. Why did the airborne soldier become a disabled man?
    A. He failed to conquer his fear. B. The AV made the false diagnosis.
    C. He didn’t get enough compensation. D. The VA didn’t provide proper service.

The shiny black sports car sat at the traffic lights. The driver’s window was down, and the driver was wearing a suit and dark sunglasses. It was an expensive car. Thomas Campbell knew that because he used to have one. But now he was sitting on a bench, which had served as his bed for the previous few nights, with no more than a pocket full of change to his name. The lights changed, the car sped off and Thomas sighed.
It had all happened in the space of a year. He was laid off from bis well-paid job when the economy took a turn for the worse. Although he was paid handsomely.he lived a lifestyle to match and always spent any raise or bonus on expensive but unnecessary things. Losing his job put pressure on his marriage and his wife left. Then he couldn’t make his mortgage (贷款) repayments. A few weeks later be found himself in a cheap hotel and a few months after that, in a sleeping bag under a bridge downtown.
As Thomas walked in the streets late that night.he thought about the man in the car and about whether be could improve his life again. He had grown up quite poor, so was used to not having much, but living outside was hard. Perhaps the hardest thing was how differently people treated him now when he didn’t have a suit or haircut. They often said negative things. Even worse than that was just treating him as invisible. Once he walked past someone he used to work with, they looked through him like he weren’t there, and it made him feel less than a human.
Then as be turned a corner, he heard the cries of a child from a second-storey window. He could see a little girl with a thick plume (缕) of smoke surrounding her. He looked about but no one was nearby. He shouted to the girl, but she was crying and coughing and couldn’t hear him. Then be heard another cry from inside. It was a baby.

    C. By copying and controlling the network.
    【答案】4. D 5. C 6. D 7. D

    C
Working at a desk all day may not be as bad for your health as siting in front of a television after work. That is a finding of a new study done in the United States. It also suggests that not all forms of sitting are equally bad.
Jeanette Garcia works as a researcher at the University of Central Florida in Orlando and she led the study. “We’ve been hearing more and more about how sitting is the new smoking.” she said.
    【答案】8. B 9. A 10. B

Matt’s career plan had been to attain an ideal job in law enforcement (执行), but the field was highly competitive.
    【答案】11. A 12. A 13. D 14. B 15. D

Gade和Daniel Huang的说法,马特之所以会陷入困境是因为他太依赖退伍军人事务部了,故选A。
    【13题详解】
词句猜测题。根据第三段的“while Matt took the VA agent’s advice “and applied for every condition he could think of(而马特采纳了VA的代理的建议,“申请了他能想到的所有条件”)”可知,Jeff没有依靠赔偿而是自力更生,因此划线短语get out and get on的意思是“自己谋生,而不是申请赔偿”,即to earn his own living rather than apply for compensation,故选D。
    【14题详解】
推理判断题。根据第四段的“Deeply depressed, now out of work and living in his parents’ home, Matt tried college but felt unbearable. Meanwhile, anxious about his future, be kept applying for higher disability ratings—receiving, eventually, a monthly tax-free check over $3,000.(马特现在失业了,住在父母家里,心情非常沮丧,他试着上大学,但觉得无法忍受。与此同时,由于担心自己的未来,他不断地申请更高的残疾等级——最终,他得到了一张每月超过3000美元的免税支票。)”可知,马特面对他现在的处境采取了消极的态度,故选B。
    【15题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段的“In Matt’s case, remarkably, even after the VA determined him to be “housebound,” it didn’t mandate (强制执行) treatment.(在马特的病例中,值得注意的是,即使VA决定他“在家休息”,它没有强制治疗。)”可知,这位士兵成为残疾人的原因是VA没有提供适当的服务。故选D。

    That’s all. Thank you.
    【答案】、
    Dear fellow students,
I feel greatly honored to speak here about the topic “Cherish our food”.
When dining out, we often order too much food. While in school canteen, we can find much food left on the table. Some students always throw leftovers into the dustbin. However, there is never enough food for the world and every grain is priceless. What’s worse, many are suffering from starvation, especially in poor areas.
Treasuring food is a Chinese traditional virtue. As we know, every grain comes after hard work. Let’s cherish food and do it from now.
    That’s all. Thank you.

    1.续写词数应为150左右;
    2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Thomas looked for a way into the burning building.
    ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
People gathered across the street and they cheered for him.
    ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】 Thomas looked for a way into the burning building. The main entrance was locked so he pulled himself up onto the fire escape. He climbed to the second floor and over to the window. The smoke was thick, and the windows were cracking from the heat. He grabbed the little girl and put her on the fire escape. Then he climbed into the room and picked the baby up in his arms. He carried them down to the street before the fire engine arrived.
People gather across the street and they cheered for him. The children’s mother hugged him with tears in her eyes. Because of this brave action, the front page of the local paper called him “Homeless Hero”. Then he was contacted by a company that offered him a job to help him get back on his feet. Thomas Campbell did not feel invisibly any more and feel confident about his future. Every time Thomas thought back to this incident, he couldn’t help thinking, “It is more blessed to give than to receive.”
