After university in 2011, Samuel went t a rural primary schl fr native children, where, n his first day, anther teacher tld him, "Samuel, yu dn't have t d much, they're just Orang Asli-native children." This was what Samuel wuld spend years fighting against.
The Orang Asli cmmunity has struggled with pverty, melting int sciety, and lsing their wn identity and culture due t thers' disregard f it. Samuel saw that the main barrier in teaching these children was the attitude n the part f many teachers that the native children were nt wrth their effrts. It was thught that whatever was taught wuld make n difference, s nbdy bthered t try. The children themselves ended up believing these stigmas (污名), ften dubting what they can achieve. Teachers skipped r slept in classes, and little effrt was made t create an apprpriate learning envirnment. Cnsequently, the schl was ne f the wrst-perfrming in the district.
Samuel bnded with his native students and accepted their culture, leading him t see their ptential. Hwever, he als came t see that they did nt have equal pprtunities cmpared t urban schls, due t the lack f facilities. S he set up a crwdfunding prject t create a fully equipped 21st-century English classrm with tablets and cmputers. The Orang Asli children nw learn technlgy, experience English and cmmunicate in English with vlunteers all ver Malaysia and verseas.
Cnsequently, the students have imprved in natinal standardized examinatins, frm a pass rate f 30% in English (2008-2012) t an average f 80% (2013-2017). These effrts have resulted in a shift f what lcal children are cnsidered capable f academically.

While the Mars and the mn are currently the httest destinatins fr uter space explratin. Mercury (水星) might be anther exciting chice. The inner planet Mercury is extremely difficult t see with the naked eye. It is “the innermst and smallest terrestrial planet in slar system.” nted the BBC.
The Eurpean-Japanese BepiClmb spacecraft was successfully launched n Oct 20, marking the start f its seven-year trip t Mercury, the Guardian reprted.
The Eurpean Space Agency (ESA) has described the jurney as ne f the mst cmplex interplanetary missins ever undertaken. Mercury is lcated just 58 millin kilmeters away frm the sun. It fllws a tight path t make ne revlutin (公转) arund the sun, cmpleting a full rbit every 88 days. Therefre, in rder t get int Mercury’s rbit, BepiClmb has t stand the extremely strng gravity f the sun. In rder t slve the prblem, BepiClmb will use special flybys (近天体探测飞行) t get int Mercury’s rbit.
Accrding t ESA, Mercury’s temperature ranges frm 450℃ n the sunward side t minus 180℃ n the dark side. In rder t study the planet, the spacecraft “is ging frm ne t the ther ver a few tens f minutes... ur instruments have t perate arund rm temperature,” accrding t Suzanne Imber f the University f Leicester, UK. BepiClmb has been cated with temperature-resistant layers t keep it safe.
If everything ges as planned, BepiClmb will travel thrugh r slar system at 60 kilmeters per secnd and reach Mercury in late December 2025. It will then split int tw prbes that will travel in different directins.
“What this lets yu d is lk at the space envirnment arund Mercury frm tw different directins at exactly the same time,” US planetary scientist Nancy Chabt tld Natinal Public Radi.
28. Accrding t text, Mercury is ________.
A. easily accessibleB. well visibleC. rarely explredD. extremely cld
29. What’s the use f the special flybys?
A. T change the rbit.B. T escape the pull f the sun.
C. T accelerate the spacecraft.D. T resist the high temperature.
30. What can we infer frm Nancy’s wrds?
A. Extreme temperatures will be a challenge.
B. We can use gravitatinal frces t change directin.
C. We may get clearer pictures f Mercury’s revlutin.
D. BepiClmb is likely t land n Mercury in the near future.
31. What is the text mainly abut?

As heat waves cntinue t ravage the planet, air cnditiners are becming mre and mre cmmn. Hwever, these "active" cling devices are psing prblems because the electricity cnsumptin which mst peple are cncerned abut and the release f zne-damaging chemicals wrsen the greenhuse gas effect, resulting in the creatin f heat islands and further thermal pllutin. Therefre, "passive" cling, which desn't have such effects, has attracted cnsiderable attentin frm bth scientists and rdinary peple in recent years.
In a recent study, a team f researchers frm China and US presented an ec-friendly, lw-cst smart cating t keep buildings cler while cnsuming zer electricity. Infrared radiatin-based passive cling has been investigated since 2014, but challenges, mainly the expensive and unsustainable design, have greatly limited their large-scale and widespread applicatin. Besides, the imbalance in cling ability f these catings during the day and night tends t lead t great day-night temperature differences as mre heat is lst than gained at night.
The slutin therefre requires a "smart" mechanism that can bth enhance daytime cling and minimize nighttime heat lss. T d this, the researchers created a new smart cating cmprised f cnventinal building materials, including titanium dixide nanparticles, flurescent micrparticles, and glass micrspheres that were engineered t reflect mst f the sunlight. Specifically, the titanium dixide particles effectively reflect sunlight thrugh light scattering(撒播)while the flurescent particles increase the amunt f reflectin by changing the absrbed sunlight int flurescence emissins, which drive mre heat away frm the building. Meanwhile, the glass micrspheres re-send mid-infrared bradband radiatin, allwing nt nly heat lss, but allwing heat exchange t take place between the building and the sky.
The cating was tested n a mdel cncrete building. Thrugh this efficient heat exchange with the sky, daytime cling was strengthened while nighttime cling was reduced. The building's inside temperature was always maintained at arund 26℃, even when the ut-side temperature varied frm 24℃ t 37℃ during the day. We believe this new cating will make it t cmmercializatin sn, enabling a sustainable, passive cling technlgy that culd help t fight climate change and the glbal energy crisis.
32. What is the virtue f passive cling?
A. It is simple t design.B. It uses n chemicals.
C. It is smart.D. It uses n pwer.
33. Why culdn't the frmer cating be applied cmmercially?
A. It was hard t design.
B. Its material was hard t prduce.
C. Its heat lss and cling are imbalanced.
D. It wasn't tested n a mdel cncrete building.
34. Which f the fllwing can replace the underlined wrd "mechanism" in paragraph 3?
A. Metal.B. System.C. Platfrm.D. Building.
35. What is the text mainly abut?
A. The principle f air-cnditining.
B. The differences between active and passive cling.
C. A new cating t keep buildings cl withut electricity.
D. A new building t maintain its inside temperature withut electricity.
