Tday, the first thing yu see when yu drive int the small twn f McFarland, Califrnia, is a welcme pster. “Hme f the State Champins,” it says prudly. Written acrss the bttm are the names f the members f the running teams that have brught McFarland nine state champinships ver the past twenty years. Tday, this little farming twn is the “hme f champins”, but things weren’t always like this.
