When she was just 9 years old, Hilde Lysiak became famous across the United States for reporting on difficult news stories. Now Hilde has written a book telling her own story, and sharing some of the challenges she faced.
Hilde Kate Lysiak's father was a reporter for the New York Daily News. When she was young, he often took her to work with him, and she developed a strong interest in news stories and reporting. When she was 8, Hilde started her own newspaper, called the Orange Street News(OSN). Her family lived on Orange Street. Hilde did the writing, her sister Izzy took pictures, and her father helped her organize and print the newspaper. Following the rules her father had taught her, she researched and reported stories in her monthly newspaper.
OSN suddenly became famous when a murder happened in town, and 9-year-old Hilde was the first person to report it. Soon, news organizations around the country were doing stories on Hilde. Some people criticized her parents for allowing her to report on something as unpleasant as a murder. Others criticized Hilde for "pretending to be a reporter". Some people even suggested she should be playing with dolls.
Hilde was upset by the complaints. She responded with a You Tube video. "I never began my newspaper so that people would think I was cute," she said. "I want to be taken seriously. I'm sure other kids do, too." That wasn't the last time Hilde had trouble getting people to take her seriously. Sometimes, it was because of her age. Other times, it was because she was a girl. But she never let that stop her. Hilde continued reporting.
Hilde's activities as a reporter have made her famous, and she has earned several awards. With her father, Hilde has written a series of books for young people, called Hilde Cracks the Case. The books are based loosely on stories that Hilde wrote. The books have now been turned into a TV show called Home Before Dark.

Earth is a big place, but size isn't everything. The planet's richest ecosystems are in rapid decline, forcing us to acknowledge countless creatures worldwide are running out of room.
85% of all species on the IUCN Red List are endangered due to many forms of habitat loss, from complete deforestation to less obvious effects of pollution and climate change. Every species needs a certain amount of habitat to find food, shelter and mates, but for a growing number of animals, the space where their ancestors found those things is now overrun by humans. As habitats decline, animals also grow more vulnerable(脆弱的)to secondary dangers like disease or conflict with people.
According to many scientists and conservationists, the best strategy to avoid a dramatic loss of biodiversity is to set aside half of Earth's surface area for wildlife. That might sound like a big sacrifice at first, but upon closer inspection, it's still an incredibly sweet deal for us: One species gets half the planet, and all other species must share the other half. This idea has been around for years, confirmed in programmes like the WILD Foundation's “Nature Needs Half” campaign, but it has gained more different opinions recently. And it may now have one of its most forceful arguments yet, thanks to a 2016 book by well-known biologist E. O. Wilson titled Half-Earth: Our Planet's Fight for Life.
Half-Earth, therefore, isn't so different from today's Earth. We're already doing many of the right things, as Wilson recently told the University of California-Berkeley's Breakthroughs magazine. We still have a few big biodiversity zones left, and others that could still recover. We just need to protect as many wilderness areas as we can, fill in gaps wherever possible and do no further harm. "I'm sure we can go from 10% to 50% coverage, land and sea,” Wilson says. “It could be large reserves that still exist, like in the Altai Mountains of Mongolia, in the taiga, the major wilderness areas of Congo, in Papua New Guinea, the Amazon—these can be made inviolate(未受侵害的)reserves; they can be pieced together.”
28. What is the main cause of wildlife's rapid decline?
A. Habitat loss. B. Terrible disease.
C. Conflict with people. D. Poor living conditions.
29. What does the writer intend to show in paragraph 3?
A. The method to save our planet.
B. The real profession of E.O. Wilson.
C. The solution to avoiding wildlife decline.
D. The origin of “Nature Needs Half" campaign.
30. What does Wilson feel about Half-Earth strategy?
A. Curious. B. Confused. C. Concerned. D. Confident.
31. What is the text mainly about?
A. Sharing the Earth with other animals.
B. Changing our attitude toward wildlife.
C. Increasing the population of wild animals.
D. Protecting the existing habitat for wildlife.

Austrian company Tec-Innovation recently unveiled smart shoes that use ultrasonic sensors(声波传感器)to help people suffering from blindness or vision impairment(损伤)to detect obstacles(障碍物)up to four metres away.
Known as InnoMake, the smart shoe aims to become an alternative to the decades-old walking stick that millions of people around the world depend on to get around as safely as possible. The currently available model relies on sensors to detect obstacles and warns the wearer via vibration(振动)and an audible alarm sounded on a Bluetooth-linked smart phone. That sounds impressive enough, but the company is already working on a much more advanced version that includes cameras and artificial intelligence to not only detect obstacles but also their nature.
“Not only is the warning that I am facing an obstacle relevant, but also the information about what kind of obstacle I am facing. Because it makes a big difference whether it's a wall, a car or a staircase,” Markus Raffer, one of the founders of Tec-Innovation, told TechXplore. "Ultrasonic sensors on the toe of the shoe detect obstacles up to four metres away. The wearer is then warned by vibration and/or audio signals. This works very well and is already a great help to me personally."
The current version of the InnoMake shoe is already available for purchase on the Tec-Innovation website, for 3,200 per pair. The advanced system is integrated in the front of the shoes, in a waterproof and dustproof case. It is powered by a heavy-duty battery that can last for up to one week, depending on use. The battery can be charged in just three hours, using a USB cable.
The next step for Tec-Innovation is to use the data collected by its system to create a kind of street view navigation map for visually impaired people. "As it currently stands, only the wearer benefits in each case from the data the shoe collects as he or she walks. It would be much more sustainable if this data could also be made available to other people as a navigation aid," computer scientist Friedrich Fraundorfer explained.
32. What does the underlined word "unveiled" in paragraph 1 probably mean?
A. Purchased. B. Launched. C. Evaluated. D. Promoted.
33. What is required when a person uses InnoMake?
A. An ultrasonic sensor. B. A walking stick.
C. A smart phone. D. A new camera.
34. What can we know about Markus Raffer?
A. He himself is visually impaired. B. He is faced with a lot of obstacles.
C. He is the founder of TechXplore. D. He has different opinions from others;
35. Where does the text probably appear?
A. In a lab research. B. In a book review.

The Cup of Coffee
It was supposed to be a normal trip to the supermarket. My son was little, and it was getting close to time to have a little sleep, so I was rushing through the aisles(走道)trying to avoid a failure. I remember feeling a sense of achievement as I got him into the car without any tears. Then I went to start the car and realized my keys were gone. After a few minutes of checking around, I realized that I must have locked them in the trunk with my bag.
I wasn't sure what to do, so I took my son out of his car seat and went back inside the store with my cart still full of groceries. I had to use their phones to call my husband for the spare key because my phone was in the bag I had locked in the trunk. After multiple calls and messages with no answer, I was getting discouraged. My son was tired and began to cry. I was tired because of a sleepless night that all mums go through-when their kids are teething. When he went into full-on crying, I felt the tears come down my face, too.
An employee at the store tapped me on the shoulder and asked me to come with her. I was panicked for a moment, thinking that I was going to be scolded and thrown into the storage area to keep us quiet. The employee, whose name I would later find out was Kelly, took me, to my surprise, to the Starbucks cafe that was inside the store. She asked me if I drank coffee. When I said yes, she walked over to the counter and came back with one for me. She said that it looked like I was having one of those days and that, as a mum, she had them, too. I told her how stupid I felt locking my keys in the car, and she assured me it happened to a lot of people. As we talked, my son settled into a sound sleep in my arms.

1. 续写词数应为150左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
After about fifteen minutes, she said her break was over.
After I got home that day, I kept thinking about what Kelly had done for me.

As we know, Tai Chi is a series of martial arts movements performed in a gentle, slow and focused manner, accompanied by deep breathing. It emphasizes a mind-body connection, through which your concentration is enhanced and you become more focused on studies. Additionally, it can teach you discipline, offer you a sense of inner calm and perfect your social skills.
Everyone, welcome to join the class!

第二节
One possible version:
After about fifteen minutes, she said her break was over. Kelly had to get back to work again. Before leaving, she asked me to contact my husband again using her phone and said if I couldn't get through, she would call someone to come out and get the trunk open. Also, my meat and dairy groceries would be replaced with new ones free of charge. Thankfully, this time my husband answered my phone and came to my assistance as soon as possible.
After I got home that day, I kept thinking about what Kelly had done for me. Wanting to do something for her in return, I went to the store with a small gift several days later and told her how grateful I was. She would accept nothing in return and just told me to pay it forward. The store has since closed, and I never saw her again, but I never have forgotten the kindness she showed me that day. I am so glad I locked my keys in the car that day.
听力部分录音材料
(Text 1)
M: Won't you stay for dinner, Lily?
W: No. I have to go now. I need to buy a gift in the department store before the closing time. You know, tomorrow is Mother's birthday.
M: OK, I'll bring a birthday cake for Mum.
(Text 2)
W: Is Jim working as a lawyer or a teacher?
M: Neither. My friend told me he is in charge of covering events at a local newspaper.
W: Really? I was always expecting him to be a writer since he was so good at writing when he was at school.
(Text 3)
M: I've put our photograph on the wall, Anne. It didn't look good above the cupboard.
W: But you can't see it by the window. Shall we put it next to the phone?
M: It'll fall off there. Let's leave it where it is.
(Text 4)
W: Excuse me, what is the price of this keyboard? Is it on sale today?
M: Yes. It is twenty dollars off the normal price until the 15th of this month. So you can only pay thirty dollars.
W: Thank you. Good value for money.
(Text 5)
M: Go to lunch together? That new restaurant across from our office is supposed to be good.
W: I can't. I brought my own lunch today because the boss told me to finish the report. I need to stay in the office.
M: All right. Maybe next time.
(Text 6)
W: Jason, guess what? My husband is taking me to China for vacation! I'm excited. I've never been there. We get to fly across the world. And when we get there, we are going to visit the Great Wall.
M: That's exciting, Anne. China is large and beautiful. I went there five years ago for my sister's wedding and last year on a business trip. The food there is so diverse and delicious.
W: It sounds amazing, Jason. I've heard the people there are also very friendly. You should tell me some wonderful places there that you like to visit.
(Text 7)
W: Hi! Are you a new comer here?
M: Yes. Could you tell me the way to the cafe?
W: Oh, it is next to our school library. I'll show you there. Look, it isn't open yet.
M: So what is the opening time? I'm a bit hungry now.
W: From 11:45 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. It's only 11:30 a. m. now. The food here is really nice!
M: Is it? So what kind of food is good?
W: Well…there are always pies on the menu, but the nicest thing is the cake. You must try it.
M: OK. Is the food expensive?
W: Well, my mum gives me three pounds a day, but the most you pay for anything is two pounds. The meals I choose cost one pound.
M: What about drinks?
W: They're not cheap, so it's best to bring your own. But you can get an apple every day and it won't cost you anything!
M: Great! Thank you very much.
(Text 8)
W: Good morning, sir. What can I do for you?
M: This is Roger Bell in Room 908. Listen, I need to change rooms. It's too noisy here. My wife was woken up several times by the lift.
W: I'm very sorry, sir. I do apologize. Room 908 is one of the older rooms. It's possible that noise can be heard early in the morning when everything else is quiet.
M: Look, since we're paying good money to stay in this hotel, I'd like to change rooms.
W: I'd be happy to, sir. The problem is that we' re all booked up today. Could you wait till tomorrow? There will be some rooms for you to choose from then.
M: All right, but I think you should offer us a suite tomorrow evening so we can get a good night's sleep. That would be fair.
W: No problem, sir. I'll be sure to make a note of that. Everything will be taken care of. And if there is anything else you need, please let us know.
(Text 9)
W: It's 9 o'clock. It's time for an interview with Mr. Johnson, the director of our city zoo. Good evening!
M: Good evening, everyone! It's my honour to be invited here.
W: When did you first start working in the zoo?
M: About 20 years ago, five years after my graduation.
W: Wow! Such a long time. Do you like your job?
M: Yes, I love it. I'm very happy here, although the work is hard and the pay isn't so good.
W: How often do you work every week?
M: Our staff usually work six days a week, but I always come to my office every day though I can leave after twelve on weekends.
W: Then when are your work hours every day?
M: I start at 8:00 a.m. and finish at 6:30 p.m., Monday to Friday, in spring and summer. In winter the zoo closes an hour earlier because it gets dark earlier.
W: What do you usually do for the animals? Do you have to clear out the animals' cages and give them food?
M: No, I mainly do the management work to make the zoo go well.
W: I see. Your job does sound really hard, but I think all of us here in the city are grateful for your hard work in keeping our zoo open, so we can all enjoy so many cute animals! Thank you very much for coming in and talking with us today.
(Text 10)
M: Hello, everyone. My topic today is about the way of a smile. There are a number of sayings about the power of a smile—"Peace begins with a smile." "A smile means 'Welcome' everywhere." "Life is short, but a smile only takes a second."All good advice, but it may not be as simple as that. According to a new research, if you want to make a good impression when you meet people, it's not just that you smile; it's how you smile. The study was carried out by the Go Group, a business support organization in Scotland, in the UK. They looked at people's responses to different smiles. They found that the responses differed greatly. Through this study, they say people should avoid three types of smiles. The first is the "Top Fan"—very wide, all teeth showing…possible evidence that you can have too much of a good thing. Then there is the "Big Freeze"-a fixed smile that looks practised and insincere. Finally comes the "Robot"—a small, thin smile lacking in warmth. The group also warns against smiling too quickly, saying it can make you look false. The best smile, they say, is slower…and flows naturally across the whole face.
