第三部分 阅读拓展练
Ⅰ.阅读理解(4选1) Andie Ang’s personal interest in monkeys was awakened when she was a child. In 1995,Ang’s father saw some sailors mistreating a small young African monkey and brought it home. Just ten at that time,Ang clearly remembers her excitement on first seeing the golden-furred little monkey. She named him Ah Boy and they soon became close companions.“I would cycle through the neighbourhood and Ah Boy would always follow me,”recalls Ang.“Neighbours would stop to look and comment,‘Oh,so cute!’” Ah Boy quickly developed a daily routine of climbing onto Ang’s shoulders to pull her hair apart in search of anything that shouldn’t have been there. But as the years passed, the family became unable to care for the monkey,so Ang turned to the Internet for help. After a complicated and costly process, the day arrived for Ang and Ah Boy to say goodbye. It was a tearful parting for her. Later that day,Ang made up her mind to study monkeys.“The time we spent together made me want to know more about monkeys, the threats to them, and how we can help,”she says. After getting a Life Sciences degree,Ang went on to complete a PhD in Biological Anthropology with a specialty in Raffles’ banded langurs(莱佛士带叶猴),a critically endangered species which hadn’t been studied for 15 years. Today, she spends hours in Singapore’s Central Catchment Nature Reserve, where the entire local population of Raffles’ banded langurs can be found, doing field research in the forest. Her group has done lots of things to preserve this species, identifying and naming every monkey living in residential areas. They enjoyed discovering their individual personalities. As a result of Ang’s work and growing support among locals, the community has come to better understand the value of native wildlife. The future of this small population of Raffles’ banded langurs has become a lot more certain. 1. What does the author write Paragraph 2 for? A. To show the excitement of Ang. B. To show the connection between the neighbours. C. To show the cleverness of Ah Boy. D. To show the closeness between Ang and Ah Boy. 2. What made Ang decide to study monkeys? A. Her father’s encouragement. B. Her experience of caring for Ah Boy. C. Her neighbours’ comments. D. Her interest in getting a science degree. 3. What do we know about Raffles’ banded langurs? A. They are under local protection now. B. They have been sent back to Africa. C. They are human beings’ life companions. D. They have already had a large population. 4. What is the text mainly about? A. A monkey researcher. B. Central Catchment Nature Reserve. C. Man’s threats to monkeys. D. Raffles’ banded langurs’ protection. |
Ⅱ. 阅读理解(7选5) What Recycling Will Look Like in 10 Years As businesses rush to become greener, this is what recycling may look like a decade from now. To begin with, more goods will be made of existing materials. The increase in the reuse of existing materials, including recycled plastic, glass and more will reduce the demand for raw materials(原材料). You’ll find more clothing, toys, park benches, etc. made of recycled water bottles. 1 . Thus all resources will be kept in circulation(流通)with no end. Reusable products will become more popular. Not only will companies take up the duty to reduce waste. 2 .Take single-use straws(吸管),for example. They’ve been banned everywhere because they are so bad for the environment and wildlife. Furthermore, beginning in 2021 the European Union banned single-use plastic. 3 ;we also need to change consumers’ habits by changing the way they think about single-use plastic. Chemical recycling may become common. Though the field is still in its early stages, the process of chemical recycling may increase in the coming years. 4 .“This is all just a huge expensive business,”Denise Patel said, adding that reducing the overall use of plastic is a better solution. 5 . Currently, thin plastic isn’t often recycled. As it’s so light-weight,it can jam recycling machinery;but throwing it out isn’t ideal either. After all,it takes about 450 years to break down. You can return it to a store that collects them,or use a service that picks up hard-to-recycle items from your home for a fee. A. We cannot rely only on recycling B. New plastic is cheaper than recycled plastic C. In the future, thin plastic will be recycled more readily D. However, chemical recycling is not without disagreement E. This creates an economy where no resource will be wasted F. Individuals(个人)will also be expected to use more reusable products G. The campaign puts the focus on individuals to clean up their plastic mess |
