A booklet about life in the future

2. make a booklet about the life in the future.

III. Teaching procedures
Step 1 Lead-in
T: Today, we’ll learn how to make a booklet about your life in the future. Look at these pictures, what do they describe?
S: They show the life in the future.
T: Yes. I hope you can be more active, creative and imaginative when talking about this topic in class.
【设计意图:明确本课任务,直接进入主题,激发学生对未来生活的好奇心,同时对学生课堂状态提出要求。】
Step 2 Planning and preparing
1. Talk about where they would like to live
T: First, enjoy some pictures about our earth today and tell me what you think of the earth now.
S1: It’s becoming more and more crowded and polluted.
S2: It’s becoming much hotter than before.
S3: Disasters happen more often.
T: So many people want to move to another place to start all over again and build a better world, such as the Mars, the moon, the space, the deep sea and many other places. Let’s do the pair work:
A: Where would you like to live in the future?
B: …
A: Why do you want to live there?
B: …
T: I would like to live in the deep sea because it is very quiet there. And the scenery must be very wonderful.

2. List the five most important things in the future world
T: Living on another place may be a challenge to us at the beginning. Some important things that are necessary in our daily life can be taken with you. Among all these followings, which five most important things would you like to choose? And tell us the reason.
S: …
T: I choose to live in the deep sea so I think these five things are most important. First, I choose the air tank because it provides me with enough oxygen to breathe. Second, the dried food must be taken because it is as important as water to us. Then the power pack is necessary because I can get a lot of energy from it. Next is the torch because I can see the deep sea world more clearly with it on. Finally, I want to take the helmet to protect my head very well.
3. Choose your ideal robot
T: We know that the robot must be our good friend in the future life. What kind of robot do you want? Of all kinds of robots, the home robot, the schoolwork robot and the teacher robot are the most common ones. And I’ll introduce some other robots to you. Read their introductions and guess what kind of robot they are.
T: It can play with you. It is lively and energetic all the time. It is good at running, playing
football and many other sports. (the sports robot)
It can make your spare time more colourful and interesting. Whatever your hobby is, it can play with you. With it, you’ll never feel lonely. (the hobby robot)
T: Think about these three questions carefully and write down the answers.
(1) What kind of robot would you like to choose?
(2) What abilities do you expect your robot have?
(3) What characteristics does your robot have?
T: Let’s share my ideas. I hope to have a home robot at home. It can cook delicious food in a short time and keep my house clean and tidy everyday. At the same time, it can look after the elderly and the children, even go shopping for me.

4. Talk about the advantages and disadvantages of living in the future world
T: Each coin has its two sides. Other places may not be as crowded and polluted as the Earth, however, living in the future has disadvantages. Take the deep sea for an example, let’s discuss the advantages and disadvantages of living there.
T: Then think about living in your future world and fill in the table.
5. Draw a map of the future life
Step 3 Making the booklet
1. Design a cover
T: You can design an attractive cover showing some of the topics you have written about in your booklet.
2. Use a different page for each topic
T: We’d better use a different page for each topic. Let’s talk about the first page as an example. The topic is “Life in the deep sea”. Of course, we should write the heading clearly at the top of the page. Then, write down something about the topic. Remember to check the draft carefully for the grammar and spelling mistakes. Try to find some pictures that relate to your writing in the newspapers or magazines or on the Internet. Add them to your booklet. You must arrange the pictures for each section.

Step 4 Presentation
T: Before presentation, try to use all kinds of materials to make your booklet colourful and interesting. You can also use a computer to help you set the text and the pictures.
T: After the presentation, we’ll vote for the best-designed booklet, the most popular booklet and the most creative booklet. So try to make you booklet more beautiful and more attractive!
