How to be a safe and smart searcher
Several keywords will help to find better results.
Use more than one keyword when you are doing a search. If you want to find out about seagulls, for example, search for “bird seagull” and not just “seagull” -- because seagull might also be the name of just about anything else, from a hotel to a documentary film.
Exact reference can help you find what you’re looking for.
If you are looking for an exact phrase or sentence, e.g. “seagulls are very clever”, type it between inverted commas (“”) and only exact matches will be shown. This is useful when you want to find something you’ve already seen but lost.
Avoid common words like “a” or “the” in a search. These aren’t always helpful and are usually unnecessary.
Remove unwanted results by adding a minus symbol (-). For example, “Seagull-hotel-film” would leave out all references to hotels and films.
Check your spelling.
Make sure that you spell every word in the search box correctly. The smallest typing mistakes can bring unwanted results -- especially when the mistyped word exists.
Have a filter.
It’s a good idea to filter(过滤) your online searchers, especially when you are searching for pictures. Ask an adult to help you add a filtering system. There are lots of filtering software options available.
Experiment with different search engines until you find the one that’s best for you. Some search engines personalize the results, so check out the option of using a search engine that doesn’t do this and you will get different results.
Reliability is very important when you search on the Internet.
Always ask yourself, “Is this reliable?” Don’t make the mistake of believing everything you see. Some websites are unreliable and some information is false. Check your information on other websites before accepting it.
26.Which of the following things should you do as a smart searcher?
a. Use only one keyword in a single search.
b. Avoid terms like “a” or “the” in a search.
c. Choose your search engine carefully.
d. Pay no attention to small spelling mistakes.
e. Compare information from different sites.
A.abc B.ace C.bcd D.bce
27.According to the passage, the minus symbol .
A.can make search results more exactly B.is equal to inverted commas in a search
C.is likely to give you a long list of results D.is usually considered unnecessary in a search
28.From the passage, we know that a filtering system .
A.is used to tick out false information on a website
B.is especially important while searching for pictures
C.personalizes your results when you are doing a search
D.is useful to find something you’ve already seen but lost

While it is common for restaurant owners to connect with their customers, a restaurant owner in the US is taking it to a whole new level. Tim Harris gives out free hugs to every customer at the end of each meal.
The atmosphere(气氛) at his restaurant “Tim’s Place” is so positive(积极的) that customers often call it the “World’s friendliest restaurant”.
“Tim’s Hug” is in fact an item on the menu described as a “love” treat. Tim’s hugs are doubly special because of everything he has achieved. The 26-year-old man is probably the only Down Syndrome Sufferer(唐氏综合症患者) in the US to own a restaurant, but he has several other things to be proud of—he’s a skillful special Olympian, an excellent sailor, and an experienced fisherman. He was also chosen as Homecoming King and Student of the Year in high school!
When Tim expressed interest in opening a restaurant, Keith, a small businessman himself, supported him. Tim hired(雇佣) other people to manage the place and do the cooking, and he introduced the idea of free hugs. He realized that people want to feel at home at a restaurant. That is why he included “love” as an item on the menu. Customers can order the free hug from Tim, and even if they don’t, he’ll probably hug them anyway.
The restaurant has been around since 2010, and Tim has given out over 19,000 hugs in the past five years—he keeps counting with a special Hug Counter. “I’ve been coming here once a week,” said Michelle GarthJones, a regular customer. “I love local restaurants, and this special one has a story that stays with you.”
29.Which of the following words can best describe Tim Harris?
A.Funny. B.Creative. C.Serious. D.Polite.
30.Why did Tim put the item of “love” on the menu?
A.Because he wanted to get more money by hugging them.
B.Because he hoped to make his menu really special.
C.Because he tried to make customers feel relaxed in his restaurant.
D.Because he is the Homecoming King and Student of the Year.
31.Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?
A.Tim is very talented in many things though he is in poor health.
B.Unless you order Tim’s Hug, he will not hug you.
C.As soon as you enter Tim’s Place, you will get a warm hug.
D.Michelle GarthJones loves listening to the story in the restaurant.

Have you ever wanted to live on the water? Perhaps wake up on a weekend morning and jump out of the window for a swim?
While there are already houseboats, a new floating neighborhood in Amsterdam, Netherlands is proving that it is possible to realize this dream!
Schoonschip, a Dutch word for a “clean ship”, is a prototype(原型)of a floating neighborhood. This community of 46 houses, 150 people, and 40 kids is the brainchild of Marjan De Blok, a Dutch reality TV director.
One-third of the land in the Netherlands lies below sea level and there is frequent flooding. De Blok imagined another way to live, that not only meets the need for more housing in cities but also allows homes to withstand(承受)rising sea levels.
The green homes are designed to have a very small environmental footprint. They are powered by solar energy, and the houses are connected, so that extra energy from one home can be used by another. The extra energy is also stored in batteries.
There are rooftop gardens for growing food, heat pumps to keep the houses warm, and rainwater is stored and used for flushing toilets. In the future, waste water from showers and toilets will be converted back into energy.
The houses themselves follow the Dutch design principle(原则)of “gezellig” or coziness , which includes soft lighting and modern touches. Additionally, when adding heavy furniture such as pianos to a floating home, it must be balanced with bricks on the other side of the house. The homes are also filled with green materials such as straw, burlap, and bamboo.
The community has been attracting attention for its new and green design. For the nearly 800 million people living along the coast and at risk from rising sea levels by 2050, this may be their hope for the future.
32.What is the article mainly about?
A.Houseboats. B.A clean ship.
C.Rooftop gardens. D.A floating neighborhood.
33.What does the underlined word “brainchild” in Paragraph 3 refer to?
A.A clever child. B.A large community.
C.A creative idea. D.An interesting TV programme.
34.What are the green homes designed for ?
A.To help lower the sea level.
B.To store energy in batteries.
C.To provide free homes for people who can’t afford to buy them.
D.To provide more houses in cities and allow them withstand rising sea levels.
35.Which of the following is NOТ TRUE according to the passage?
A.The houses have soft lighting and modern touches.
B.Heavy furniture should be made of bricks to keep balance.
C.Straw, burlap, and bamboo can also be found in the homes.
D.The community may be the hope for people along the coast facing the rising sea levels.

The Island of Jura is one of Scotland’s best kept secrets—a beautiful but little known island with a population of some 200 people. The quiet life of Jura would be hard to find anywhere else, and people of Jura are proud of that. However, if you want an active holiday, there are many things for you to see and do.
If you enjoy walking and hill climbing, for example, then the hills of Jura, which rise to more than 800 metres, should be on your list. As these walks take about seven hours, strong walking boots are recommended.
Beautiful birds, seals, golden eagles….From the moment you get off the Jura ferry(轮渡), you will see deer happily feeding on sea plants along the shoreline. You will get those special once-in-a-lifetime photos of wild animals.
The Ardfin Gardens are open all year round. Entry is through the main gate, where you will find an information board and short guides to the two garden walks. The beginning of both walks will take you over a small stream. It is here that you turn left to do the longer of the two walks along the cliff tops. The views are amazing and on a clear day you will be able to see as far as Northern Ireland. Back at sea level, remember to visit the walled garden. Here you will see native plants mixed with plants from far-away countries.
The island has only one large hotel. The Jura Hotel offers visitors nice rooms and an excellent menu, and their prices are what you would expect to pay in other parts of Scotland. Just opposite the hotel is ‘Jura Stores’. From the outside it looks like any other small village shop. However, once inside you will be surprised at the goods—from delicious cakes to waterproofs and sleeping bags.
