In movies and books, people often describe a decisive moment when they figure
out who they are. However, I never thought it actually happened in real life. I never
expected to have a “moment”of my own. When it arrived, mine was much more
powerful than I could have ever imagined.
During the spring of my junior year, my class watched a documentary called “The
Invisible Children.”It was about three college students who take a trip to Africa and
document their experience. At first the film was slightly humorous. However, once the
    高二年级英语试题(第 4 页 共 12 页) 学科网(北京)股份有限公司

group arrived in northern Uganda, the mood changed. They learned what the
consequences of a 23-year war had been for thousands of children. Some had lost family
and friends. others were caught by the opposing force and became child soldiers
Before long: I was sobbing(哭泣). I couldn't believe these things were happening,
yet at the same time I knew they were. I just hadn't been paying attention, for in the past
17 years, I was blessedly protected. When the movie ended, I couldn't get it out of my
head. For the next week, I was not myself. Every bite of food I took I thought of Grace,
the 15-year old who had little to eat. When I went to bed, I pictured Sunday, the 14-year
old boy sleeping on a straw mat on the ground in a camp. My whole world shifted.
Since that day, I haven't been able to picture my future in a way that doesn't involve
going to Africa and doing what I can to help. Ultimately, this is why I decided to major
in engineering. With an engineering degree, my potential for change will be limitless. I
will build wells and schools, and design irrigation systems. Engineering is tough, but I
know-- in what Yeats called“my deep heart's call”--that this is what I'm supposed to
    do with my life.
24.What did the author think of a decisive moment at first?
    A. It was impossible B. It was unforgettable
    C. It was common. D. It was powerful
    25. How does the movie influence the author?
    A. It amused him. B. It changed his perspectives of life.
    C. It made him unsure of himself. D. It made him lose the desire to eat or sleep.
26.Why does the author choose to study engineering?
    A. To achieve his goal B. To be well acknowledged
    C. To challenge himself D. To realize his childhood dream.
27.In which section of a newspaper may this text appear?
    A. Celebrity B. Health. C. Education D. Science.
    C
Most of us will never get the chance to look down on Earth from above. But
simulating(模拟)this effect on Earth might do the trick. Seeing expansive videos of
Earth has been found to boost people's curiosity and creativity. That might be why you
feel as if you are stepping outside yourself, and your internal monologue(独白)goes
    quiet.
Psychologists Dacher Keltner and Jonathan Haidt define awe as the feeling we get
    高二年级英语试题(第 5 页 共 12 页) 学科网(北京)股份有限公司

when we're faced with something vast that is beyond our cognition(认知) and that we
struggle to understand. It's an emotion that combines amazement with an edge of fear,
and it can weaken our very sense of self.
Throughout history, powerful leaders have made use of awe to apply control, using
grand buildings, monuments and stories to make their people feel humble(谦卑的).
One study found that people drew themselves smaller after an awesome experience,
but it didn't affect their self-respect. Another study found that people who watched an
awe-inspiring video estimated their bodies to be physically smaller than those who
watched a funny or neutral video.
Using MRI scans, scientists have discovered changes inside the brain that might
be responsible. When people feel awe, the brain lowers activity in the areas thought to
make up our sense of self.
Changing your sense of self might sound scary. but it can make you a better person.
Research has shown that feeling awe can make people behave more morally and
generously. Awe can have personal benefits as well. It's been shown to make us feel
happier and less stressed, even weeks after an awesome experience. Surveys suggest
people feel low-level awe on average a couple of times a week. Getting more awe can
simply be a process of thinking about what inspires awe for you and building it into
    your routine.
28.Which of the following example can show the feeling of awe?
    A. Watching an amusing video.
    B. Enjoying a pleasant piece of music.
    C. Observing a delicate flower in the wild.
    D. Standing in front of the pyramids of Egypt.
    29. What is the effect of an awesome experience?
    A. It holds up our innovation. B. It makes us feel insignificant.
    C. It strengthens our sense of self. D. It urges you to pursue high social position.
30.How does the brain react to the feeling of awe?
    A. Its awareness improves. B. Part of it runs more slowly.
    C. The tissue of it is transformed. D. The understanding of it sharpens.
31.What can we infer from the last paragraph?
    A. Low-level awe is the best choice.
    B. Feeling awe is beneficial to people.

    C. Changing self-concept is unacceptable.
    D. The process is more important than the outcome.

McDonald's food holds plenty of secrets, and McNuggets are no exception. The
boxed, bite-size bites of chicken are one of the fast food producer's most popular menu
items. But there's something even the most devoted nugget (鸡块) consumers may not
know: every nugget that comes out of Mickey D's is guaranteed to be one of four
    distinct shapes.
Don't worry though. it's not some strange chicken plot. It's the result of a carefully
planned process that occurs in McDonald's factories. A Business Insider video, using
continuous shooting mode from McDonald's factory in Canada, offers an inside look
into nugget production. Before it goes to the fryer, the ground chicken breast meat that
will become McNuggets goes through a “rolling cookie cutter” machine. The cutter
ensures that the nuggets-to-be are all the same width and one of four shapes. The shapes
are the “boot,” the “bell,” the “ball,” and the “bone”(or “bow tie”).
But just how different are the four shapes? How do you tell your boots from your
bow ties? Well, the ball is round, as you might expect. The bone/bow tie looks less like
either of those things than like a somewhat bent rectangle (矩形).The bell is diamond-
shaped and the boot really does look somewhat like a wide boot with a thin toe. (Or like
a hook, if you turn it over)Though the shapes are somewhat less distinct after the
batter(稠面糊 is added, see if you can still identify them the next time you get your
    McNugget fix.
But why have special shapes at all? A curious consumer posed the question. A
company representative replied that the shapes and their similar sizes ensure that they
all take the same time to cook, which is necessary to ensure food safety. Plus, the shapes
are fun for kids, and easy to dip for everyone!
And why is four the lucky number? Well, the Q& A page claims that “three would've
been too few. Five would've been, like, silly or unreasonable.” Honestly, though, we
doubt McDonald's consumers would have really cared either way.
32.How are the McDonald's Chicken Nuggets' shapes formed?
    A. They are processed by a cutting machine.
    B. The four shapes are made by machine freely.
    C. Some batter is added to the chicken breast meat.
    高二年级英语试题(第 7 页 共 12 页) 学科网(北京)股份有限公司

    D. They are the natural forms of the chicken breast meat.
33.What do we know about the shapes of McDonald's Chicken Nuggets?
    A. The ball and the bell are of the same size.
    B. The bone shape is most attractive to small kids.
    C. The regular shapes make processing easier and safer.
    D. The different shapes can arouse people's imagination.
34.What is the author's attitude to the number four of McDonald's Chicken Nuggets?
    A. Positive. B. Disapproving. C. Doubtful. D. Uncaring.
    35. What is the text mainly about?
    A. The history of McDonald’s Chicken Nuggets.
    B. A warning against eating McDonald’s Chicken Nuggets.
    C. The introduction of McDonald’s Chicken Nuggets’ four shapes.
    D. An explanation of the processing of McDonald’s Chicken Nuggets.

Every new exercise routine comes a new risk of injury, whether it’s injuring a
muscle from lifting or developing knee pain from running. Some people are unwilling
to exercise for fear of injury. 36 . There are estimated 8.6million sports-related
injuries each year in America. However, with the right methods, you can develop a
well-rounded exercise routine, one that enlarges the benefits while reducing the risk of
    injury.
37 . One very common issue in runners is knee pain, which is often called
“runner’s knee.” To prevent it, for some people, it’s useful to warm up before running.
Another common overuse injury among runners is stress fractures (骨折). This often
happens when a runner tries to add too many miles too quickly, without taking enough
    rest days.
Both of these injuries tend to happen because runners did something out of the
ordinary compared to what they were trained to do. Take rest days, build up your
mileage(里程) gradually and combine regular strength training. 38
As with other injuries, the risk increases toward the end of a workout. It’s very
essential to listen to your body. 39 When it comes to making progress in a workout
routine, continuous exercise with a gradual progression is strongly recommended.

Ali and his younger sister, Zahra, lived with their parents in a poor neighborhood.
Their mother was very sick and their father was struggling to find a job, and they had
only a little money with which to buy food. As they had not paid the rent for several
months, the landlord was breathing down their necks.
One day, Ali took Zahra's shoes to a shoe repairman to be fixed, but he lost them
on the way home. It wasn't until he got home that he realized he had lost the shoes. He
was afraid that his parents would be angry and disappointed, so he begged his sister to
keep it secret. Zahra agreed and the two decided to share Ali's running shoes. Zahra's
school hours were in the morning, so she would wear them first. After school, she would
rush back and give them to Ali. He could then run to his school, which began in the
afternoon. Although he ran as fast as he could, Ali often arrived late and was warned by
    the school.
Ali heard about a long distance race that was held for the boys in the city. When
he learned that the third prize was a new pair of shoes, he decided to take part. He ran
home excitedly and promised his sister that he would win her the new shoes. The day
of race arrived. Ali had a strong start, but halfway through the race he began to get tired
and his legs began to ache. Getting more and more exhausted he thought only of Zahra
and his promise to her. Dreaming of the new shoes he would win for his sister gave him
strength, and he stayed right behind the two fastest runners, determined to finish third.

    66. One possible version:
Last Sunday, we participated in a one-day trip to the Red Leaf Valley organized by our
class, which intended us to get close to nature.
At 6 am, we started on foot and it took an hour before we reached our destination.
During the walk, we not only breathed fresh air but appreciated fantastic surrounding
views. In the valley, so attractive were the red leaves that all our stress was relieved.
We had some beautiful pictures taken and enjoyed a wonderful picnic.
This activity rewarded us with an unforgettable memory.
    67. One possible version: Paragraph 1:
Ali looked up and saw the other boys rushing ahead. Refusing to give up at this
point, he jumped to his feet and ran as fast as he could. He dashed across the finish line
and won the fourth prize. Thinking he would let her sister down, Ali couldn't help
sobbing. Just then he suddenly heard the announcement from the broadcast that he won
the third prize as the runner who collided with Ali was disqualified for breaking the rule.
Holding the shoes close to his chest during the award ceremony, Ali felt overjoyed and
relieved as he eventually won the shoes for his sister.
    Paragraph 2:
Filled with delight, Ali walked home quickly. He could not wait to see his sister and
share the thrilling news. On his arrival, Ali found Zahra was waiting outside, She was
really nervous whether her brother had brought her what she was expecting. “Zahra,
see what l have got for you." he took the prize out of his bag with his trembling hands,
The instant Zahra saw the shoes, her face lit up. So thrilled was she that she threw
herself at Ali, “Thank you, Ali." Tears of joy welled up in their eyes as the brother and
    sister hugged tightly together.
