The water closed over my head again. I struggled to move both my hands and legs. I thought about my mom. What would she do if she couldn’t find me? What about my brothers and sisters? When thinking, I didn’t know the noise produced by my hands and legs’ moving attracted my brothers and sisters’ attention. Before long, I felt the water moving around me. Something warm and strong touched my hand. Was it a shark in the pool? No, it was someone’s hand.

I could feel my body moving upward as a familiar hand started to pull me through the water. It pulled until I could feel the ground under my feet, and I came onto the shore. “We did it! ” yelled one of my brothers as I looked up and saw my mother holding my hand. I learned she and other kids made a human chain so that she could get me. I was speechless. Kids ran all around me, jumping, running and screaming. Maybe this great big crazy family wasn’t so crazy. After all, they were the human chain. Because of them, I was out of danger.
