Walk around the city of Ann Arbor, Michigan, and you may see a green animal named Sluggo and a flying pig named Philomena. You might even see street artist David Zinn drawing them using only sidewalk chalk and charcoal (炭笔)

At the age of 12, David began working as an artist. His dad was writing a computer instruction and worried that it would be boring to read.So he asked David to draw pictures of turtles (the name of the computer program) to explain it.The publisher liked his drawings, and soon David had the job of drawing more turtles in action.“I learned a great lesson, which was that, to make money as an artist, I couldn't always draw what I wanted” he says.“I had to figure out how to draw a turtle drinking tea and other things like that.”

David worked for 20 years as a commercial (商业的) artist, but he often felt cooped up (禁锢) sitting at a computer for 10 hours a day. Then, on a sunny afternoon about ten years ago, he brought some chalk and started drawing on the sidewalk. That's when Sluggo came to life.

“One of the reasons I like to put art on the street is to take people by surprise” he says.“I can have fun drawing, and knowing it will be washed away helps me not think too much.It frees me up.”

It takes David about two hours to complete one drawing. He uses a lot of sidewalk characteristics in his street art.It can be difficult to draw on surfaces that are not flat.He has to notice where shadows will land so they won't destroy the 3D drawings he creates.

Today, more and more people are accepting and looking for his work.David's artwork can also be found across the country and even throughout the world.Photos of his drawings have been shown at many universities and museums.

4.What did David learn from drawing turtles for his father?

    AWork hard.      BFollow your heart.

CDraw what you like.  DDraw in a creative way.

5How does David feel when knowing his drawing will be washed away?

    ARelaxed. BWorried.

    CUnhappy.  DSurprised.

6In what way is David's art special?

    AIt shows his real life.

BIt is drawn on the flat sidewalk.

CIt needs a very long time to finish a drawing.

DIt is 3D street art created by simple painting tools.

7What do we know about David's drawings?

    AThey are becoming popular.

BThey are too difficult to understand.

CThey are found mainly at museums.

DThey are hardly accepted by adults.

    C

How many sports stars can you name? Whether it's ten or thirty, I believe that 90% of them would be male (男性). Even in today's society, which calls for gender equality  (男女平等), it seems that female sports stars simply don't get the same coverage (报道) as male players.

The World Cup is the most widely followed sporting event in the world. According to a report, almost 715 million people watched the final match of the 2006 FIFA World Cup, a ninth of the whole population of the planet. But how many people notice the fact that the FIFA Women's World Cup has just taken place in Canada? The US team was the winner, after beating the Japanese team 52 in the final match. England even got a third place! However, the England team in the men's World Cup seldom runs to the quarterfinals. While the World Cup enjoys primetime on most BBC channels, the FIFA Women's World Cup is put aside. The only time the media (媒体) made the news was when an English player scored an own goal!

The inequality doesn't end with football. Just recently, Caroline Wozniacki (a top Danish tennis player) complained that women don't get the same chance as men to play on the show courts at Wimbledon. In this case, I think it's the luck of the draw — the further you get in the competition, the more likely you are to play on the show courts. In the opening stages, it is true that often only the best players will play their matches on the show courts. Women's tennis does get lots of coverage, though many complain that it isn't exciting to watch.

Many people think the women's sport is often paid less attention to, but I think this is slowly starting to change. In the UK, there is a campaign called This Girl Can, which aims to get girls and women back into sports, regardless of their ages, shapes or sporting abilities. Hopefully this campaign will encourage more people to take up and enjoy sports, and help to reduce the nation's health problems.

8The hidden message in Paragraph 1 is that ________.

Afemale players don't get much attention

Bmale players are more likely to enjoy sports

Cthere are more male players than female players

Dthe media prefer to provide coverage of female sports

    9The author thinks Caroline's case ________.

Ais due to the level of players' ability

Bis another example of gender inequality

Chelps women's tennis get a lot of coverage

Dleads to disappointment at women's tennis

10What's the author's attitude toward the fixture of women's sport?

    ANegative. BPositive.

    CUnconcemed.  DDoubtful.

11Why does the author expect more women to take part in sports?

    ATo beat male players.

    BTo have a household name.

    CTo achieve their dreams.

    DTo improve their health.

    D

The sun rises above the Arctic Ocean (北冰洋). Across the frozen sea, a white bear moves slowly.

The bear stops and sways (摇晃) his head from side to side. There is nothing to see but endless ice and red sky. Then his powerful nose senses what his eyes cannot: a beluga whale is nearby.

The bear follows the smell and spots a large hole in the ice where a small white whale is swimming. He silently walks toward the hole, then stops, standing still. The whale does not see the bear, whose white fur makes him appear invisible (看不见的) against the ice.

Finally, the whale swims close to where the bear is waiting. With terrifying speed, the bear comes to life and moves toward the whale. In a moment it is over, and the bear eats his first meal in nearly a week.

Polar bears rule the frozen sea, but their ancestors weren't always built for ice and snow. The first Arctic bears were brown bears, a species that includes grizzly bears. They came to the icy north over a hundred thousand years ago.

No one knows for sure why these bears traveled to such a cold place. Scientists think they might have wandered north looking for food. Maybe they became trapped by glaciers and couldn't leave. Whatever the reason, the bears never should have survived.

But they did. They got used to their new environment. Their bodies changed. Their behavior changed, too. Eventually, the bears developed into an entirely new species: the polar bear. You can see some of the characteristics that polar bears developed to survive.

Sadly, these characteristics may now threaten the polar bear's survival. As sea ice melts due to global warming, polar bears are frequently forced to come ashore (在岸上). They are poor hunters on land, which means they often go a long time between meals. The polar bear, king of the Arctic, is now classified as a threatened species.

Although the future of the polar bear is unknown, the tale of two bears continues. As temperatures rise, grizzly bears have been spotted moving north into polar bear territory (领地). These longlost cousins, once forced apart by nature, are coming back together again.

12What can be inferred about the white bear mentioned in the first four paragraphs?

AIt is noisy. BIt is smelly.

CIt is starving.  DIt has good eyesight.

13What do we know about polar bears' ancestors?

    AThey were a darkercolored species.

BThey were born to live in ice and snow.

CThey had no trouble getting used to the icy north.

DThey came to the Arctic Ocean about 1,000 years ago.

14Why are polar bears struggling to survive?

AThey are losing their hunting ground.

BThey are threatened by other animals.

CThey are spending little time on land.

DThey have difficulty reaching the shore.

15Which of the following can be the best title for the text?

    AThe climate change

    BThe polar bear's favorite meal

CThe dark past of the polar bear

DThe mysteries of the Arctic Ocean

If you're a gamer who's constantly addicted into your phone, it could be time to ask for medical help.

On June 18, 2018, the World Health Organization (WHO) listed “gaming disorder” as a mental health condition. __16__

“Video games are like a nonfinancial kind of gambling (赌博) from a psychological point of view” Mark D. Griffiths, a professor from Nottingham Trent University in the UK, told the Associated Press (AP)“Gamblers use money as a way of keeping score, while gamers use points.”

    __17__

“People need to understand this doesn't mean every child who spends hours in their room playing games is an addict, otherwise doctors are going to be flooded with requests for help” Joan Harvey, a spokeswoman for the British Psychological Society, told AP.

__18__ For example, a 21yearold Chinese woman Wu in Guangdong Province went blind in one eye after playing the mobile game King of Glory for a whole day. “On days when I have no work, I usually get up at 6 am, eat breakfast and play until 4 pm” she told the South China Morning Post. “Then I'll eat something, have a nap (小睡) and play until 1 am.”

Wu isn't alone. According to a study, about one in five young Chinese people play online video games for at least four to five hours per day. __19__ In April 2018, the Ministry of Education asked Chinese schools and parents to prevent students from becoming addicted to the Internet and games.

Other countries have also taken action. __20__ Meanwhile, in Japan, some mobile phones have a special mode (模式)for children that lets their parents control what games they can download and how long they can play.

AThis means it's now on the same list as other mental illnesses.

BThankfully, measures have been taken to deal with the problem.

CWe often see people around us playing games on their mobile phones.

DIn South Korea, children are forbidden to play video games after midnight.

EWHO's main work is to improve the mental health of individuals and society.

FBut if you lose control over your gaming habits, you'll face serious problems.

GHowever, it doesn't matter if you play favorite game now and then.

As they had not paid the rent for several months, the landlord was breathing down their necks (盯着他们).

One day, Jatin took Neha' s shoes to a shoe repairman to be fixed, but he lost them on the way home. It wasn' t until he got home that he realized he had lost the shoes. He was afraid that his parents would be angry and disappointed, so he begged his sister to keep it secret. Neha agreed and the two decided to share Jatin' s running shoes. Neha' s school hours were in the morning, so she would wear them first. After school, she would rush back and give them to Jatin. He could then run to his school, which began in the afternoon. Although he ran as fast as he could, Jatin often arrived late and was warned by the school.

A long distance race was going to be held for the boys in the city. When Jatin learned that the third prize was a new pair of shoes, he decided to take part. He ran home excitedly and promised his sister that he would win her the new shoes.

The day of race arrived. Jatin had a strong start, but halfway through the race he began to get tired and his legs began to ache. Getting more and more exhausted he thought only of Neha and his promise to her. Dreaming of the new shoes he would win for his sister gave him strength, and he stayed right behind the two fastest runners,_determined to finish third. Suddenly, as the finish_line drew near, another runner collided (碰撞) with Jatin from behind and Jatin crashed to the ground.

    Paragraph 1:

Jatin looked up and he saw the other boys rushing ahead. Refusing to give up at this key point, Jatin clenched his teeth, jumped to his feet and ran as fast as he could. Finally, he was the fourth one to dash across the finish_line. Jatin couldn't help sobbing at the thought of letting his sister down. Jatin felt overjoyed and relieved during the award ceremony, holding the shoes close to his chest.

    Paragraph 2

On his arrival, Jatin found Neha was walking about outside nervously and anxiously. “Neha, see what I have got for you.” Jatin said excitedly,_taking the prize out of his bag with his trembling hands. The instant Neha saw the shoes, her face lit up. So thrilled was she that she threw herself at Jatin. “Thank you! Jatin.” Tears of joy welled up in their eyes as the brother and the sister hugged tightly together.
