There was a gardener who looked after his garden with great care. To water his flowershe used two buckets(水桶). One was a shiny and new bucket. The other was a very old and dilapidated onewhich had seen many years of servicebut was now past its best.

Every morningthe gardener would fill up the two buckets. Then he would carry them along the pathone on each sideto the flowerbeds. The new bucket was very proud of itself. It could carry a full bucket of water without a single drop spilled. The old bucket felt very ashamed(惭愧的)because of its holes: before it reached the flowerbedsmuch water had leaked(渗漏)along the path.

Sometimes the new bucket would say"See how capable I am! How good it is that the gardener has me water the flowers every day! I don’t know why he still uses you. What a waste of space you are!"

And all that the old bucket could say was"I know I am not very usefulbut I can only do my best. I am happy that the gardener still finds a little bit of use in meat least.’’

One daythe gardener heard that kind of conversation. After watering the flowers as usualhe said"You both have done your work very well. Now I am going to carry you backand I want you to look carefully along the path."

Then the two buckets did so. All along the path, they noticedon the side where the new bucket was carriedthere was just bare earthon the other side where the old bucket was carriedthere was a joyous row of wild flowersleading all the way to the garden.

24What was the old bucket ashamed of?

AIts past. BIts aging. CIts manner. DIts leaking.

25What does the underlined word "dilapidated" probably mean?

    ADirty. BDark. CWorn out. DOrdinary-looking.

26The new bucket made conversations with the old one mainly to________.

Atake pity on the old one Blaugh at the old one

Cshow off its good look Dpraise the gardener's kindness

27Why was the old bucket still kept by the gardener?

ABecause it was used to keep a balance.

BBecause it stayed in its best condition.

CBecause it had its own advantage.

DBecause it was thought of as a treasure.

    C

Australia is famous for its beautiful beaches. And Australian people love swimming and going to the beach. But it wasn't always that way.

    Different Climates, Different Habits

When Europeans first invaded Australia, the only people here who were good at swimming were the Aboriginal people. The Europeans came from the climate where it was too cold to swim. Also some people worried that they would get sick if they wet their whole body.

However, the warm climate of Australia soon changed their attitude to swimming. At first, only men swam. They swam nakedthere were no women to see them.

    Cover up!

By the 1880s and 1890s visiting the beach was very fashionable and a lot of people went there, especially in warm weather. They wore everyday clothesmuch more than the ones people wear on the beach today.

In those days, people believed they should cover most of their body so it would not be seen by the opposite sex. Special bathing costumes were designed for women. These costumes used a lot of cloth and were very heavy when wet, making it difficult to swim.

    Laws Made and Laws Changed

The government decided to stop men swimming naked. It passed a law which forbade (禁止) swimming between 6 a.m. and 7 p.m. Many people were against this law and wrote letters to the government asking it to change the law. In 1903, the law changed people could swim in the daytime, but they had to wear neck-to-knee costumes.

    The Shrinking Costume

As time passed, swimming costumes became smaller and more convenient.

At first men and women were covered from neck to knee. Then the arms became bare. Then more of the legs were uncovered. Each new change was regarded by many as shocking and rude and people wrote letters to the newspapers complaining about the new costumes. Nowadays some people go to special "nude (裸体的)beaches" to swim naked.

However, most people cover their bodies more than they did ten years agonot because they think bare skin is shocking — but to protect their skin from the harmful rays of the sun.

    28The climate of Australia ____________.

Amade European settlers think differently about swimming

    Bchanged European settlers’ swimming costumes

    Cmade European settlers' swim naked

    Dmade European settlers feel hot

29During the late 19th century, swimmers should____________.

    Acover their bodies

    Bwear many heavy clothes

Ctake no notice of their clothes

Dhide when they see a person of the opposite sex

30According to the law just before 1903, people must____________.

    Ahave a bath at 6 a.m. and 7 p.m.

    Bonly swim between 6 a.m. and 7 p.m.

Cnot swim in the main daylight hours

    Dswim with neck-to-knee costumes between 6 a.m. and 7 p.m.

31The last paragraph of the passage implies that____________.

Apeople are shocked by the sun

Bpeople can only protect their bare skin for ten years

Cpeople think it rude to swim with the smaller costumes

Dpeople worry about getting skin cancer from too much sun

Street dances are dance styles that evolved (演变)outside of dance studios in any available open space. They are often improvisational (即兴的)and social in nature, encouraging interaction and contact with audiences and the other dancers. These dances generally evolve out of urban and suburban spaces and are a part of the native culture of that geographical area. Some examples of street dances include b-boying, or breakdancing, which originated in New York City.

Street dances are dances that evolve between people in a social environment, although it cannot be always determined as to how they actually do evolve between people. In theory, as one person comes up with a move that looks good to another person, the other person tries to copy that move.Similar to the game of Chinese whispers, the effect is that the other person cannot absolutely perform that move the same way as the other person, thus leading to the dancers creating their own style or entirely new moves.

There is a small difference between entirely freestyle dance and an absolute street dance. While freestyle dance is random and a personal dance invented by a single person (even if it’s based on someone else’s dance style) , a full street dance is a collection of the various similar dance moves and styles collected into one practice and regarded as the same dance. For example, when b-boying evolved out of the early hip-hop culture, people came up with their own movesand other people improved them.Street dances constantly evolve for as long as they are now and then practiced and regarded as the same dance. All the moves danced to breaks in hip-hop culture were regarded as b-boying.

Sometimes it is possible to trace back street dance styles that were mostly pioneered by specific (具体的)people. One example is locking, which is often regarded as being started by Don Campbell, who was a 1970s pioneer of American street dance. Most of the time it is impossible to owe street dances to specific people, since the dances evolve outside of professional dance environments, and there is no social or legal record.Street dance pioneers also rarely have professional degrees in dance, thus distinguishing street dances from other modern dance forms.

32Paragraph 1 is intended to tell us the _________of street dances.

    Avarieties Bchanges

    Ccharacteristics Ddistributions

33What do we know about street dances?

ADancers perform them in dance studios.

BThey are developed by professional dancers.

CThey are collected from different moves and styles.

DDancers create moves based on other people’s moves.

34Chinese Whispers are mentioned in Paragraph 2 to_________.

Astress a street dancer's own style

Bshow the effect of Chinese Whispers

    Cintroduce a popular Chinese game

Dexplain the characteristics of street dances

35The passage is probably taken from__________.

    Aa travel journal

    Ba history textbook

    Ca popular magazine

    Da museum brochure

    第二节:七选五根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。(每题2分,共10分)

Are you truly happy? Do you ever know what it means to be happy and what it takes to achieve happiness?36The following are a few tips that I follow to create happiness in my life.

Make a plan for achieving goals that you believe will make you happy. Your moods will very likely increase if you are going after something you value.

Surround yourself with happy people. It is easy to begin to think negatively(消极地) when you are surrounded by people who think that way.37

When something goes wrong, try to figure out a solution instead of being absorbed in self pity. Truly happy people don’t allow setbacks(挫折) to affect their mood because they know that with a little thought they can turn the things back to their favor.

38These few minutes will give you the opportunity to focus on the positive things in your life and will lead you to continuous happiness.

39Whether you treat yourself to lunch, take a long, relaxing bath or simply spend a few extra minutes on your appearance, you will be subconsciously(下意识地) putting yourself in a better mood.

Finding the humor in situations can also lead to happiness. Find a way to make light of a situation that would otherwise make you happy.

Keeping healthy is another way to achieve happiness.40

AWhat makes one person happy may be very different from what makes someone else happy.

BOn the contrary, if you are around people who are happy, their emotional state will be easily passed to you.

CBeing overweight or not eating foods containing nutrition have a negative effort on your mood.

DThese are important questions for anyone who is seeking happiness to ask themselves.

    E.  Spend a few minutes each day thinking about the things that make you happy.

    F.  There are some tips in life that lead to happiness.

    G.  It’s also important to take some time each day to do something nice for yourself.
