I used to sit in front of the TV in my family’s living room, imitating what the presenters said on the morning shows. I knew one day I would move to New York City to work in television. So when I got a job at one of the three big networks in New York at the age of 24, I was elated. This was where I had always wanted to be. I spent the next 12 years in a variety of roles at the same company. I had the perfect arrangement that most people thought - a job for life. “You're so lucky” was what I heard over and over again. And I was.But I also started to notice cracks in the media world I had come to love so much. A new kind of competition cropped up in the form of social media and new digital media. News was changing. I knew I couldn't stay where I was; I must accept the change and be part of creating it. When I told my colleagues that I was thinking about leaving the network and going to work at an online start-up, I got a lot of crazy looks. “Why would you make such a risky move?” “What if it fails?” “You can’t be seriously considering this.”I didn't listen to their advice because I knew not every good experience is defined(定义) by success or failure. Sometimes it’s about running the risk pushing the limits and having faith in an idea. What would the world be like today if we only acted when we could see the outcome? Our new online company, Huffpost Live, has been on the air for several months and is doing amazingly well. I didn't listen when people told me to take the safe route. I’m proud that I didn't take the advice of the so-called experts and chose to make the change.24.What does the underlined word “elated” in Paragraph 2 mean?A.Surprised. B.Worried. C.Excited. D.Confident.25.Why did the author leave her previous job?A.The boredom in the media industry. B.The rapid development of new media.C.The bad relationship with her colleagues. D.The large amount of work in the company.26.What can we infer about the author?A.She had no experience of failure. B.She didn't mind what others said.C.She acted after knowing the outcome. D.She had a better understanding of success.27.What did the author think of her decision?A.She wasn't sure of that. B.She had taken great risks.C.She felt regret about that. D.She made a right decision.CDolphin (海豚) or not a dolphin? That is the question! You see, there are several types of dolphins. Some are saltwater dolphins while others are river dolphins."What are the 32 types of dolphins?" When people are asking the question, they are actually referring to the saltwater dolphins in oceans and seas. The river dolphins living in fresh water, are not included in these species. But what would be the answer in this case if we ask, "Dolphin or not a dolphin?" The answer would obviously be yes. River dolphins still belong to the dolphin family.Among the 32 types of dolphins, some do not actually wear the word "dolphin" in their names, such as the tucuxi, while others actually have the word "whale" as part of their names even if they are not whales but in fact, belong to the dolphin family, for example, the melon-headed whale and the killer whale. So what would be the answer to the question "dolphin or not a dolphin?" in these cases? It would be yes. All these species do belong to the dolphin family.Another question that people ask is, "Are the sea animals that perform at aquariums (水族馆) all dolphins?" So, it always seems to come back to the question, "Dolphin or not a dolphin?" Well the answer is no in this case. The sea animals that perform there are not all dolphins. The beluga which people tend to think belong to the dolphin family because they show what seems like a smile, like most dolphins, are in fact a species of the whale family. Now that you read these facts about dolphins, you probably realize that certain sea animals may appear to be part of the dolphin species and that others seem to be part of the whale family, but in either case, it is not obvious and can be surprising when you identify a sea animal as being a dolphin or not a dolphin. That is the question!28. All the following belong to the dolphin family EXCEPT ________.A. The tucuxi. B. The beluga.C. The killer whale. D. The melon-headed whale.29. What do we know about the majority of the dolphins?A. They perform for audience. B. They appear friendly.C. They look like whales. D. They live in fresh water.30. What could be added about dolphins before the last paragraph if you were the author?A. The living area. B. Dolphin training. C. The eating habits. D. Further identification.31. This article can be classified as________.A. popular science B. literary fiction C. a news report D. a travel journalDBuying green is now popular with many consumers. We choose environmentally friendly products, and we try to be conscious consumers. However, new research by the University of Arizona has found that it has no positive effect on psychological well-being (幸福感). It also has a more limited environmental benefit than the other option simply buying less. The study followed 968 young adults over a number of years. Throughout the study, participants responded to online survey questions about their subjunctive well-being, their life satisfaction and their psychological distress (悲伤), as well as giving information about their levels of materialism and pro-environmental behaviors. The study found that reduced consumption buying less, repairing items instead of replacing them, avoiding impulse purchases and so on was linked to a higher level of personal well-being and a lower level of psychological distress, but green buying did not show such links.Perhaps unsurprisingly, the study also found that young people with more materialistic values were less likely to engage in reduced consumption. This group did, however, engage with buying green activities. Researcher Sabrina Helm suggests that this may be because buying green is still buying so it still satisfies the materialists urge to accumulate new items. These people are called ‘green materialists’.However, green materialists must still deal with the same consumption-related stresses as average materialists. If you buy and own a lot of stuff, it takes up a lot of head space. You have to worry about how to pay for it, and you have to manage all the stuff, worrying about how to keep it safe and how to keep it organized. As Helm notes, “The key is to reduce consumption and not just buy green stuff. Having less and buying less can actually make us more satisfied and happier.”Understanding how materialistic values affect consumer behaviors, and how those behaviors in turn affect personal well-being, is important. However, Helm acknowledges that for many consumers, changing behaviors to consume less will be challenging. “We’ve been told since childhood that there’s a product for everything and it’s OK to buy, and it’s a good thing because that’s how the economy works,” She Said.32. What is the difference between buying less and buying green?A. Buying less promotes personal well-being. B. Buying less is based on materialistic values.C. Buying green brings more life satisfaction. D. Buying green contributes more to the environment.33. What problem does a green materialist usually have to face?A. The burden of ownership. B. Worries about how to stay safe.C. Stresses from average materialists. D. The difficulty finding green products.34. What does what Helm says in the last paragraph indicate?A. It is natural to buy and sell things. B. It’s important to be wise consumers.C. It’s good to buy what is needed. D. It’s not easy to make people buy less.35. What is the best title for the text?A. Changes in Consumer CultureB. Buying Less for Your HappinessC. Green Consumption: A Choice for the PlanetD. Everyone has a strong 41 , and talks at the same time, and no one has a 42 leading to heated arguments. We often talk or even debate with each other on different topics. 43 a family like mine has made me more 44 about the world around me, making me tend to question anything anyone tells me. But it has also made me realize that I’m not a good listener. And when I say “listening”, I’m not 45 to the nodding-your-head-and- 46 -answering-Uh-huh-or-Ooh-I-see variety. I mean the kind of listening where you find yourself deeply 47 with the person you’re speaking with, when his story becomes so 48 that your world becomes less about you and more about him. No, I was never very good at that.I spent summer in South Africa two years ago. I worked for a good non-profit 49 called Noah, which works 50 on behalf of children affected by AIDS. But 51 you asked me what I really did in South Africa, I’d tell you one thing: I listened, and I listened. Sometimes I 52 , but mostly listened. And had I not spent two months 53 , I might have missed the 54 moment when a quiet little girl at one of Noah’s community centers, orphaned(孤儿)at the age of three, whispered after a long 55 , “I love you.” 56 that summer, I knew how to hear. I could sit down with anyone and hear their 57 and nod and respond at the 58 time—but most of the time I was 59 about the next words out of my own mouth. Ever since my summer in South Africa, I have noticed that it’s in those moments when my mouth is closed and my 60 is wide open that I’ve learned the most about other people, and perhaps about myself.41. As scheduled, I went to the airport to pick up the distinguished foreign guests and helped them check in at the hotel. During their stay in the festival, the guests appreciated numerous works created by well-known artists in China. From my perspective, serving as a volunteer is not only a great contribution to our society but also beneficial to myself. When providing help for others, I can improve my communication skills. Therefore, I sincerely hope that everyone would be involved in the volunteering work. 听力原文:
