In 1929, three years after his flight ver the Nrth Ple, the American explrer, R.E. Byrd, successfully flew ver the Suth Ple fr the first time. Thugh, at first, Byrd and his men were able t take a great many phtgraphs f the muntains that lay belw, they sn ran int serius truble. At ne pint, it seemed certain that their plane wuld crash. It culd nly get ver the muntains if it rse t 10,000 feet. Byrd at nce rdered his men t thrw ut tw heavy fd sacks.
The plane was then able t rise and it cleared the muntains by 400 feet. Byrd nw knew that he wuld be able t reach the Suth Ple which was 300 miles away, fr there were n mre muntains in sight. The aircraft was able t fly ver the endless white plains withut difficulty.
1、In 1929, three years after his flight ver the Nrth Ple, the American explrer, R.E. Byrd, successfully flew ver the Suth Ple fr the first time.fr the first time 第一次time表示“次,回”,还可以说this time, last time, next time, anther time, each time,fr the last time我最后一次提醒你,如果你不快点,你就会赶不上火车的。 I remind yu fr the last time that if yu dn’t hurry, yu’ll miss the train. Give him these phts next time yu see him.
2、Thugh, at first, Byrd and his men were able t take a great many phtgraphs f the muntains that lay belw, they sn ran int serius truble. can... He tk a phtgraph f his huse befre he left hme.run int truble = get int truble Each time he ran int truble, he asked his parents fr help.
3、At ne pint, it seemed certain that their plane wuld crash.at ne pint At ne pint, he made up his mind t becme a painter.it为先行主语,真正的主语为that引导的从句。 It nw lks certain that the meeting is ging t be put ff.
4、It culd nly get ver the muntains if it rse t 10,000 feet.rise t … 上升至……5、The plane was then able t rise and it cleared the muntains by 400 feet.by表示“相差,以…… I missed the train by ten minutes. He is yunger than me by tw years.

Can 和be able t 1.can和culd 我们已经讲过can和culd都可以表示“请求允许做某事”,can比较生硬,用于和自己同等的人或是熟悉的朋友。 Can I use yur telephne? Culd I use yur telephne? 2.can和be able t can和be able t都可以解释为“能够、可以”。
a. I can swim nw.=I am able t swim. I can swim 300 meters nw and last year I was able t swim 100 meters. 而后面部分“last year I was able t swim 100 meters”,表示我去年的确是游过了,可以游100米的。
c. be able t 有比 can 更多的形式。 He will cme if he can.=He will cme if he is able t. I can see yu tmrrw.=I’ll be able t see yu tmrrw.(将来时使用will be able t结构) I culdn’t understand him.=I wasn’t able t understand him.(过去时使用was/were able t结构) He said he culd see me next week.=He said he wuld be able t see me next week.(过去将来时使用wuld be able t结构) 请大家注意,如果要体现将来时和完成时,那只能用be able t。
He was able t g t Lndn yesterday and he enjyed himself very much. He didn’t agree with me at first but I was able t persuade him. He was able t leave Eurpe befre the war began.
