Nuclear power’s danger to health, safety, and even life itself can be described in one word: radiation.
Nuclear radiation has a certain mystery about it, partly because it cannot be detected by human
senses. It can’t be seen or heard or touched or tasted, even though it may be all around us. There are other things like that. For example, radio waves are all round us but we can’t detect them, sense them, without a radio receiver. Similarly, we can’t sense radioactivity without a radiation detector. But unlike common radio waves, nuclear radiation is not harmless to human beings and other living things.
At very high levels radiation can kill an animal or a human being outright by killing masses of
cells in important organs. But even the lowest levels can do serious damage. There is no level or radiation that is completely safe. If the radiation does not hit anything important, the damage may not be significant. This is the case when only a few cells are hit, and if they are killed outright, your body will replace the dead cells with healthy ones. But if the few cells are only damaged, and if they reproduce themselves, you may be in trouble. They reproduce themselves in an unusual way. They can grow into cancer. Sometimes this does not show up for many years.
This is another reason for some of the mystery: about nuclear radiation, serious damage can be
done without the knowledge of the person at the time that damage has occurred. A person can be irradiated (辐射) and feel fine, then die of cancer five, ten, or twenty years later as a result. Or a child can be born weak or easy to get serious illness as a result of radiation absorbed by its grandparents.
Radiation can hurt us. We must know the truth.
    24. According to the passage, the danger of nuclear power lies in _______.
    A. nuclear quantity B. radiation detection
    C. radiation level D. nuclear radiation
    25. What does the underlined word “outright” mean
    A. fiercely B. instantly C. widely D. correctly
    26. Which of the following statement is NOT true based on the article?
    A. Similar to radio wave, nuclear radiation can never be detected.
    B. Radiation is really dangerous since it can do harm to you at any level.
    C. It’s less harmful to have your cells killed rather than damaged by radiation
    D. Awareness of radiation damage needs to be aroused among people.
    27. Which of the following would be best title of the article ?
    A. Radiation Leads to Numerous Deaths
    B. Radiation, Detectable or Undetectable?
    C. Nuclear Radiation, a Mysterious Killer
    D. New Findings about Nuclear Radiation

Never play games with a bot(robot)—it will find a way to cheat if it can. A team from OpenAI, an artificial intelligence lab in San Francisco, has developed artificially intelligent bots that taught themselves to cooperate by playing hide-and-seek. The bots also learned how to use basic tools to help them win.
Bowen Baker at Open AI and his colleagues wanted to see if the team-based capability of the
OpenAI Five could be used to produce skills that could one day be useful to humans.
The researchers set their bots loose in a simulated (模拟的) environment filled with fixed walls, movable boxes and ladders, and left them to play team games of hide-and-seek. The bots each had their own view of the world and couldn’t communicate with each other directly.
At first, the hiders simply ran away. But they soon worked out that the quickest way to stop the
seekers was to find objects in the environment to hide themselves from view. The seekers learned that they could move boxes around and use them to climb over walls. The bots then discovered that being a
team-player—passing objects to each other or cooperating on a hideout—was the quickest way to win.
But the real surprise came when the bots started making use of problems or faults. Seekers found
that if they pushed a ladder towards a wall, they could launch themselves into the air and spot hiders from above. Hiders found that they could get rid of the ladders by pushing them aside.
It shows that AIs are able to find solutions that humans miss, says Baker. “Maybe they’ll even be
able to solve problems that humans don’t yet know how to.” However, it is a large leap (跳跃) from
virtual hide and seek to real problem-solving. “The main limitation is that it is in simulation,” says Chelsea Finn at Stanford University.
    28. Why did Bowen and his colleagues conduct the research?
    A. To teach bots to play games. B. To train bots to use basic tools.
    C. To find if bots may cheat like humans. D. To see the potential of robots cooperation.
    29. What’s the third paragraph mainly about?
    A. The tools of the research. B. The design of the research.
    C. The competitors of the game. D. The environment of the game.
    30. What does the underlined word “It” in the last paragraph refer to?
    A. Passing objects. B. Moving boxes around.
    C. Making use of faults. D. Hiding themselves from view.
    31. What does Chelsea think of the finding of the research?
    A. It can bridge a gap in the AI research.
    B. It will not be influenced by the real world.
    C. It will definitely help the real problem-solving.
    D. It may not be realized out of the virtual world.
    D
Paris is the city of dreams, the city of love. If you are thinking of heading to Paris for a study period, then perhaps a little reality check is in order. But my experience was a romantic one.
I paved my path to Paris through an exchange program. On arrival in Paris, I was constantly
reminded of the official processes I was required to complete—forms to be filled in, meetings to attend, the list seemed endless. Despite my well organizational habit, somehow this endless list of to-do’s was completed in little more than a week.
Then the real work began. Once classes were underway, I found myself volunteering to do oral
presentations and assignments first, rather than last. This method proved to be very helpful.
Once I had finished class for the week, I had an ever-increasing list of museums to visit, neighborhoods to explore, and cafés to sit in and parks to run around. Read as many books about Paris as you can. Talk to as many locals and other foreigners living there as you can. But the one thing that reading a book or talking to someone cannot do is to provide you with the experience of wandering Paris on foot, I discovered some of my favorite places in Paris by wandering. The people watching, the sounds of the city, the colors as the seasons change, they all add to the ecstasy that I experienced in Paris as an exchange student.
After spending five months wandering through the charming neighborhoods, I fell in love with the
atmosphere that came out from every open door, and with every spoken word. There is something comforting about walking to the market each Sunday to be faced with the beautiful display of fruits, vegetables and dairy products. There is warmth in saying bonjour to the passers-by.
On my last day in Paris, I confidently said, “Bonjour Monsieur,” as I passed the little store down
the street. I guess no matter how hard I tried I was always going to be an outsider, a tourist. The best part about going on exchange in Paris is falling in love with the city in your own way. Everyone's experience of Paris is different. I know mine is unique and special to me, my own little pieces of Paris.
    32. Which word best describes the author’s state the moment he arrived in Paris?
    A. Discouraged. B. Inspired.
    C. Confused. D. Occupied
    33. What does the passage mainly tell us?
    A. An exchange student's life. B. A Charming neighborhood
    C. A stressful studying life. D. A traveling experience.
    34. According to the passage, what left the author the deepest impression?
    A. The friendly people he met in Paris.
    B. The special culture he experienced in the city.
    C. The academic achievement he made in his study.
    D. The presentations and assignments he did in class.
    35. Which of the following can be inferred from the passage?
    A. The experience of heading to Paris for a study period would be nothing but smooth.
    B. Visiting museums and exploring neighborhoods were the author’s priority in Paris.
    C. Reading as many books about Paris is what the author would treasure most in his student's life.
    D. “There are a thousand Hamlets in a thousand people's eyes” applies to the feelings to Paris.

    第二节(满分10分)根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出最佳选项,选项中的两项为多余选项。
There are many benefits of rock climbing for kids. The most obvious ones are physical. Rock
climbing is an intense physical activity requiring strength and flexibility. For senior climbers, rock
climbing can be a good way to build strength while completing certain courses. 36 Even
though rock climbing may not seem as intense as running, it does work to keep the body healthy.
37 Rock climbing requires strategies and focus in order to make it to the top. Children who
have difficulty concentrating can often develop their mental focus through rock climbing. A feeling of accomplishment might also be seen as a mental benefit. This often encourages increased physical activity to meet the next challenge.
Rock climbing is generally not competitive for children. Some children are shy or uninterested in
competing with others. 38 However, activities like rock climbing do involve social skills, but
they do not involve the same type of cooperation as a team sport.
Some parents may be concerned that rock climbing for kids is not safe because of the heights involved. However, when all safety measures are observed and the child is well informed about the
dangers of the activity, the danger involved could be almost entirely cleared. 39 This makes the
    activity even less dangerous.
Parents can climb with children and learn together. This activity is a great bonding experience for
climbers of all ages, which can be excellent for the children involved. 40 .
    A. Mental benefits of rock climbing for kids are equally important.
    B. So team sports and competitive sports are not always fit for him.
    C. Besides, children often sign up for specially designed safer courses.
    D. For beginners, the challenges are usually kept at a manageable level.
    E. It’s true that rock climbing has the benefit of being a family activity.
    F. Rocking climbing is quite suitable for children who are shy and less competitive.
    G. It is important for rock climbing training to involve a great deal of flexibility training. 第三部分:英语知识运用(共两节,每题1.5分,满分45分)
