Deciding to get her money’s worth out of the wedding dress on which she spent over $ 1,000, an American woman has been wearing her wedding dress, a year after her wedding.
43-year-old Tammy Hall adopted a new lifestyle – anti-consumerism (反消费主义) lifestyle in 2018, after a trip to India opened her eyes to how much we as a society consumed. She decided not to buy any new clothes or footwear for a whole year after she returned home to Miles City, in Southern America, and she managed to make it.
But last year, as her wedding day approached, she faced a dilemma. She wanted to look good on the most important day of her life, but how could she spend a small fortune on the wedding dress she would only wear on that day?
“In the end it occurred to me that if I was going to get a wedding dress, I’d make sure I could get my money’s worth,” Hall tells PA Real Life.
“The first time I wore it after the wedding was to vote in the election in late 2019,” the 43-year-old adds. “Since then, it’s been to all sorts of places. Wearing it on a crowded train was especially funny, but I’ve worn it to do housework, to football games and to the gym.”
Hall says that she has gotten some strange looks from people, but no irritating comments. It may have something to do with the fact that the dress is not the fanciest, but she believes people are just too reserved to say anything. Anyway, she doesn’t really care, because she knows she has to hit the goal she has set and wearing the dress multiple times is the most reasonable way she could think of to make the most of her wedding dress.
Hall now plans to wear her wedding dress on a trip to Denmark that she and her partner will take next summer.
    24. Why did Tammy Hall adopt a new lifestyle?
    A. To adapt herself to Indian life. B. To get prepared for her wedding.
    C. To cut down her consumption. D. To save money for her next trip.
    25. What did Tammy Hall do to get her money’s worth out of her wedding dress?
    A. She brought fun to people with it. B. She wore it repeatedly in daily life.
    C. She tried to wear it to earn money. D. She got it exchanged again and again.
    26. Which of the following best explains the word “irritating” underlined in paragraph?
    A. Thrilling. B. Amusing. C. Annoying. D. Confusing.
    27. What can we infer about Tammy Hall?
    A. She is determined to turn her ideas into practice.
    B. She values her wedding dress less than her trips.
    C. She has been struggling to make the ends meet.
    D. She has influenced people’s lifestyle widely.
    C
Biscayne is not very far from the lights, noise and excitement of downtown Miami. But it has a very different atmosphere from the big city. Biscayne National Park was established as a national monument in 1968. It became a national park in 1980. That year, its size also increased. The park now covers more than 70,000 hectares.
If you enjoy water, Biscayne is the park for you. Ninety-five percent of the park is water. Many kinds of animals live in these waters. Some of them are threatened or endangered. You will find the huge, gentle West Indian manatee, the less gentle American crocodile, several kinds of sea turtles, and more than 500 species of fish.
Scientists say Human history at Biscayne begins more than 10,000 years ago. However, evidence of the area’s earliest people is mostly underwater now, as water levels have risen over time. Within the last 3,000 years, people began to settle in the area. Scientists continue to learn about these people by examining the big hills of shells they left behind. The shells contain other waste, too, including early tools and house wares.
European explorers began arriving in the area in the early 1500s. They brought with them diseases like smallpox and measles. Over time, these diseases killed huge numbers of natives. Early explorers arrived in the area on ships. The reefs and rough waters made it difficult for ship captains. Biscayne’s waters contain more than 50 shipwrecks. Scuba divers today can explore six of them.
Four ecosystems come together here, which is what makes the park so diverse. The blending ecosystems create “edge communities.” These edge communities support a huge amount of wildlife. The underwater diversity is what attracts most people to Biscayne National Park. Many visitors come here to scuba dive in Biscayne’s clear and warm waters.
    28. What happened to Biscayne National Park in 1980?
    A. It began to be set up as a national park. B. It was built as a national monument.
    C. It became much larger in area. D. It covered more than 70,000 hectares.
    29. By examining the shells they left behind, scientists can __________.
    A. learn about the sea animals B. know how old the place is
    C. learn when the earliest people arrived D. learn about the life of the earliest people
    30. Huge number of natives were killed __________.
    A. on their voyage to Biscayne B. by diseases brought by Europeans
    C. in their fight against the Europeans D. because of lack of proper food
    31. What attracts tourists most to Biscayne National Park?
    A. Its ecosystems. B. Its long history.
    C. Its underwater activities. D. Its endangered animals.

Those who are used to looking through thousands of books in big bookstores may find Japan’s Morioka Shoten a little strange. That’s because this tiny bookstore that is located in Ginza, Tokyo sells only a single book at a time.
Opened in May 2015, Morioka Shoten is the brainchild of Yoshiyuki Morioka. The experienced bookseller began his career as a bookstore clerk in Tokyo’s Kanda district before branching out to open his own store. It was here while organizing book readings that he realized that customers usually came into the store with one title in mind. Morioka began to wonder if a store could exist by selling many copies of just one single book. In November 2014, he partnered with his two friends, to establish a unique bookstore with the idea of “A Single Room, A Single Book”.
Like its offering, the bookstore is simple. The selections that are picked by Morioka change weekly and vary widely to attract customers with different interests. Recent choices include The True Deceiver, an award-winning Swedish novel by Tove Jansson, Hans Christian Andersen’s Fairy Tales, and a collection of artist Karl Blossfeldt’s photography of plants. Morioka has also chosen books written by famous Japanese authors Mimei Ogawa and Akito Akagi.
To highlight his only offering, Morioka often uses clever methods. For example, when selling a book about flowers, he decorated his shop with the ones that had been mentioned in the book. He also encourages authors to hold talks and discussions so they can connect with customers. Morioka says his goal is for the customers to experience being inside a book, not just a bookstore!
Risky as the idea might seem, things appear to be going well. Morioka says he has sold over 2,100 books since he opened it. Things can get better considering that his bookstore is becoming increasingly popular not just among the locals but also visitors from other countries.
    32. What inspired Morioka to open such a bookstore?
    A. A Swedish novel. B. His present partner.
    C. A bookstore clerk. D. His working experience.
    33. Why is Morioka Shoten unique?
    A. It is popular with foreigners. B. It sells books of different topics.
    C. It is decorated with colorful flowers. D. It sells various copies of a book in a week.
    34. Why does Morioka encourage authors to hold talks?
    A. To introduce his bookstore. B. To advocate his philosophy.
    C. To make books better understood. D. To help readers connect with each other.
    35. What’s the author’s opinion about the bookstore’s future?
    A. Risky. B. Optimistic. C. Unpredictable. D. Hopeless.

Many people wonder that it would be like to live in Australia. It’s the six biggest country in the world. Surrounding by the ocean, Australia has population of about twenty-two million. It’s a country which population consists of natives and people from many other countries.
Before being here for a while, my biggest impression is the complicated mix of peoples and cultures that make up of the nation. Although the main cultural influence since 1788 has been Western culture, minority cultures had also played a part in shaping the unique Australia culture. 书面表达
I’m glad to share one of my most unforgettable travel experiences. It was during the national holiday last year that I visited Gulangyu Island in Xiamen. I arrived there in the morning together with my parents. It’s a beautiful island, whose scenery is breathtaking. We stood on the second floor of the boat, enjoying the sights of the sea. To my surprise, I saw the Jinmen Island in Taiwan. Then we took lots of photos and tasted special snacks off board. At dusk, we enjoyed ourselves as much as to forget to leave.
Through the trip, I’ve broadened my horizon and enriched my life experience. I feel so lucky to live in this beautiful country.

    M:I think I've got it.
    (Text 9)
W:So you were hired as a mail clerk about five years ago. You've learned a lot since then, haven't you?
M:Sure.I learned more about the company because I went around to different offices. Then I was promoted to mail distribution clerk. That's two grades higher than the mail clerk. I went from Grade I to Grade 3.
    W:Did you like that job?
M:Yeah, my pay went up, and every year I moved up a step. And I got a pay raise too. I'm a Grade 5 now.
W:Well,Jim,here is another chance to move up the ladder. The mail department is getting some new computers. We will give le everybody two days of training. The people who learn quickly can go to school for more training.
M:You mean going to school on company time?
W:Yes,because it will help you in your work later. You can be promoted to Grade 7.
M:Well, I'd like to think about it for a few days. Maybe I should stay where I am now.
    (Text 10)
M:Welcome to San Fernando City Tours. I'm Mark, your tour guide. We have a lot to see in three hours, so make sure you're comfortable! Now, as we have only three hours, we won't be able to take you round the shopping district, but we think you'd prefer to look around the shops there in your own time, anyway. San Fernando has some well-known tourist attractions-the lighthouse for example, and the National Library. However, the little-known Military Museum is not to be missed. Be sure to visit before you leave! Now, there's a lot to do in San Fernando. For those who love the water, I can recommend a trip on the Seafarer, one of the most famous boats on the San Fernando River. It does an evening trip with a three-course meal included. It's great fun for everyone, but especially for young people in their teens or twenties-after nine there's a disco on the boat and it gets really lively! Then there's a climbing wall near the town center. It's very popular, with a large wall for expert climbers, and a smaller wall for beginners. There's also a junior wall and a nursery, so it's a great day out for those of you with kids. And if you Iike walking, there are some great walking tours. The City Sights Tour is highly recommended. as it is the walking tour by the coast. But that one's only for the strong.
