Welcome to our free resources for first aid
First-aid education has been included in the health curriculum (课程) for schools in England. Now, more children and young people will acquire the skills they need to save a life.
To celebrate the change, we’re launching a brand-new teaching website. It’s aimed at all schools in the UK.
We understand that, for some people, teaching first aid can be quite frightening—especially if you’ve never done it before. So, we’ve designed these free resources to help you confidently deliver lessons in line with the new curriculum. Here’s how:
●Each first-aid skill focuses on one key action.
●The teaching resources provide you with all the guidance you need.
●The resources have easy-to-follow lesson plans that save you time in preparing for your classes.
This new interactive learning website will include:
●a multimedia library with supporting materials you need for each lesson
●different learning activities for those aged 5—18
●a full curriculum mapping for the new requirements in England
How will it benefit learners?
Through all kinds of practical activities, learners will:
●have skills, confidence and willingness to act when someone needs first aid
●learn first aid for common injuries and what to do in a first-aid emergency
●develop basic life skills, including how to deal with challenging situations
●get other ideas such as kindness, safety and sharing learning with others
If you have any questions, please contact reducation@redcross.org.uk.
21. Who is the text written for?
A. Students B. Teachers C. Parents D. Doctors
22. What is the advantage of the free resources?
A. Making first aid learning fun. B. Being open to learners of all ages.
C. Being based on life experiences. D. Making first aid easy to teach.

The Red Bicycle is a storybook about a bicycle’s journey from North America to the countryside in West Africa. The full name of the book is The Red Bicycle: The Extraordinary Story of One Ordinary Bicycle, and was written by Jude Isabella from Canada.

Max, a 15-year-old boy, produced the Vybpro, a wearable wristband which warns users whenever they are about to touch their faces. The gesture has been recognized as one of the key ways that COVID-19 can be spread, making it a potentially life-saving invention.
He first hit on the excellent idea two years ago for the purpose of reducing the spread of the cold and flu. After both of Max’s parents were infected with COVID-19 four months ago, however, he put in all his effort to develop a working prototype (模型).
Worn on both wrists, the intelligent device is expected to sell for £89. It uses position-sending technology algorithms (算法) to tell between predicted face touching and other hand motions. Then the device warns users of hand gestures that are dangerously near the face.
“We came up with the concept a few years ago when my family was repeatedly catching cold and flu viruses from traveling in and out of London and I could see how easy it was to pick up germs especially from using public transport,” said Max. “It was only when the World Health Organization (WHO) began suggesting people avoid touching their eyes, noses and faces to stop the spread of viruses from contaminated surfaces did I realize that it could play a part in slowing the spread of COVID-19.”
Max, who is from Bristol, launched a £60, 000 crowdfunding campaign (众筹活动) on Kickstarter earlier this week to further his project and turn the prototype into a public reality. “The main task of this project is not to make money, but to get it onto the wrists of those it can help keep safe. Any profits made from early sales through the crowdfunding site will be reinvested into providing free devices for organizations that help people such as National Health Service(NHS) staff and nursing homes.”
28. Why did Max develop the Vybpro?
A. To protect people against COVID-19.
B. To prevent the spread of the cold and flu.
C. To test position-sending technology.
D. To monitor people’s health.
29. What does the underlined word “contaminated” in Paragraph 4 probably mean?
A. Dangerous. B. Polluted. C. Smooth. D. Rough.
30. What did Max start the crowdfunding campaign for?
A. Raising money for nursing homes. B. Helping to advance his project.
C. Providing free devices for NHS. D. Making a better type of Vybpro.
31. What can we learn from Max’s story?
A. Hard work pays off. B. Little people can make a big difference.
C. Ups and downs make one strong. D. Technology changes our lives.

MySpace, the social networking website, is different from other websites which only provide stories about other people. MySpace is a place that allows you to broadcast your own stories and personal information to as many people as you like. Started two years ago, it is a big source of information for and about American kids.
Teenagers and their parents feel very different about it. Teens are rushing to join the site, not sharing their parents’ worries. It signals yet another generation gap in the digital era.
For teenagers, it is a reliable network to keep in touch with their friends. They will often list their surnames, birthdays, after-school jobs, school clubs, hobbies and other personal information.
“MySpace is an easy way to reach just about everyone. I don’t have all the phone numbers of all my acquaintances. But if I want to get in touch with one of them, I could just leave them a message on MySpace.” said Abby Van Wassen. She is a sixteen-year-old student at Woodland Hills High of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Parents on the other hand are seriously concerned about the security problems of MySpace. “Every time we hold a parents meeting, the first question is always about MySpace,” said Kent Gates, who travels the country doing Internet safety seminars (研讨会). The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children has received at least 288 MySpace-related complaints, according to Mary Beth Buchanan, a lawyer in Pittsburgh.
“Your profile on MySpace shows all your personal information to anyone on the Web. And MySpace even lists this information by birthplace and age. It’s like a free checklist for troublemakers and it endangers children.” Buchanan said.
32. From the passage we can learn that MySpace ____.
A. allows you to list your personal information
B. is very careful about people’s privacy
C. brings about the generation gap
D. lists the telephone numbers of your friends
33. Why are some parents against MySpace?
A. Because MySpace has a bad influence on their children.
B. Because they don’t want to pay so much money for MySpace.
C. Because troublemakers can easily approach their children through the site.
D. Because it takes up too much of their children’s spare time.
34. What can we infer from “Every time we hold a parents meeting, the first question is always about MySpace”?
A. MySpace often holds parents meetings.
B. MySpace has become a top issue troubling parents.
C. MySpace is quite popular-with parents.
D. Parents have lots of questions about the website.
35. The writer’s attitude towards MySpace is ____.
A. negative B. positive C. objective D. optimistic
第二节 七选五(共5小题,每小题2分,满分10分)
根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项,选项中有两项为多余选项。
How to Remember What You Read
Reading is important. But the next step is making sure that you remember what you’ve read! 36 You may have just read the text, but the ideas, concepts and images(形象) may fly right out of your head. Here are a few tricks for remembering what you read.
• 37
If the plot, characters, or word usage is confusing for you, you likely won’t be able to remember what you read. It’s a bit like reading a foreign language. If you don’t understand what you’re reading, how would you remember it? But there are a few things you can do. Use a dictionary; look up the difficult words.
•Are you connected?
Does a character remind you of a friend? Does the setting make you want to visit the place? Does the book inspire you, and make you want to read more? With some books, you may feel a connection right away. 38 How willing are you to make the connections happen?
•Read it; hear it; be it!
Read the lines. Then, speak them out loud. And, put some character into the words. When he was writing his novels, Charles Dickens would act out the parts of the characters. He’d make faces in the mirror, and change his voice for each character. 39
•How often do you read?
If you read frequently, you’ll likely have an easier time with remembering what you’re reading and what you’ve read. 40 As you make reading a regular part of your life, you’ll make more connections, stay more focused and understand the text better. You’ll learn to enjoy literature- as you remember what you read!
A. Practice makes perfect.
B. Are you confused?
C. Memory is sometimes-a-tricky thing.
D. What’s your motivation?
E. But other books require a bit more work on your part.
F. You can do the same thing when you are reading the text!
G. Marking helps you remember what you read.

Each person has a(n) 58 on the world in some way. Someone else can do what you do, but they cannot do it 59 the same way that you do it. The next time you feel 60 , remember “Nobody else can make the sound that you make.”
41. A. challenging B. worthy C. simple D. good
42. A. because B although C. when D. if
43. A. seldom B always C. never D. sometimes
44. A. satisfying B. interesting C. inspiring D. touching
