W: Absolutely. Especially when we compare the technology before with the modern technology in our life now.

    C. At the age of 7.
    18. How much can Harley earn in one week?
    A. £12,000.
    B. £20,000.
    C. £21,000.
    19. Why is it hard to replace Harley as Peppa Pig’s voice actress?
    A. She is very famous.
    B. She has a unique voice.
    C. She is very hard-working.
    20. How did Harley do her voice acting at the very beginning?
    A. She read her lines by herself.
    B. She learned from other voice artists.
    C. She copied a producer.
    【答案】AABC
W: There’s no denying that Peppa Pig is one of the world’s most popular cartoon characters among kids now, but when asked where Peppa Pig’s funny voice comes from, most people would feel at a loss. Actually, behind our well-loved Peppa Pig, it’s a young British girl called Harley Bird. Harley Bird, who is now a 16-year-old girl, has been the voice of Peppa Pig for 11 years. Now Harley is the most successful teenage voice artist in Britain, and she can earn 12,000 pounds in a single week. The schoolgirl is set to become a millionaire by the time she is 21.
Though Harley is mature enough, she still has the unique “Peppa Pig” voice, which makes her difficult to be replaced by anyone else.
When interviewed by the TV program called This Morning, Harley said that when she was first cast as Peppa Pig, she was too young to read her own lines. She would have to imitate a producer until she learned to read the words herself. “I really understand the character. I know how she speaks, how she would do things, how she would react.” She said.

Emerging (新兴的) economies struggled to grow through the 2010s and pessimism hangs over them now. People wonder how they will pay debts rung up during the Covid-19 pandemic and how they can grow rapidly as they did in the past.
The freshest answer is the fast-spreading digital revolution (革命). Emerging nations are adopting cutting-edge technology at a lower and lower cost, allowing them to fuel domestic demand and overcome traditional barriers to growth. Over the past decade, the number of smartphone owners has skyrocketed worldwide. The world’s emerging markets have already demonstrated the transformative effects of digital technology, which has saved the economy with old industries slowing sharply.
The digital revolution is as advanced in emerging economies as in developed ones. Among the top 30 nations by tax income from digital services as a share of GDP, 16 are in the emerging world. Since 2017, digital tax income has been growing in emerging countries at an average annual pace of 26%, compared with 11% in the developed ones.
How can it be that poorer nations are adopting digital technologies faster than the rich? One explanation is habit and its absence. In societies with plentiful physical stores and services, customers are often comfortable with and slow to abandon the providers they have. Nations lacking in schools, hospitals and banks will jump at the first digital option that comes along and quickly bridge these gaps by establishing online services.
Since 2010, the cost of starting a business has held steady in developed countries while falling sharply in emerging countries, from 66% to just 27% of the average annual income. Businessmen can now launch businesses affordably, organizing much of what they need on a smartphone.
It’s early days, too. Tech revolutions usually last a long time. Innovations like the car and the steam engine were still transforming economies half a century later. While the pandemic is weakening globalization, the age of rapid digitization has just begun. This offers many developing economies a revolutionary new path to catching up with the living standards of the developed world.
    24. Where are people more willing to accept digital services?
    A. In developed societies.
    B. In overpopulated nations.
    C. In economies with poor online services.
    D. In countries short of basic public facilities.
    25. How do businessmen in emerging countries benefit from digital technology?
    A. They can pay less tax.
    B. They make stable profits.
    C. They do business at lower costs.
    D. They enjoy a bigger share of the market.
    26. Why are “the car and the steam engine” mentioned in the last paragraph?
    A. To prove old inventions will finally go out of style.
    B. To indicate digitization will have a long-term impact.
    C. To explain innovations will take a long time to be adopted.
    D. To imply developing countries will overtake developed ones.
    27. What’s the best title of the text?
    A. The Global Economy Is Looking Up
    B. Emerging Economies Struggle in the Pandemic
    C. Digital Tech Saves the Declining Emerging Markets
    D. Digital Service Is Progressing Slowly in Rich Countries
根据第四段的“Nations lacking in schools, hospitals and banks will jump at the first digital option that comes along and quickly bridge these gaps by establishing online services.(缺乏学校、医院和银行的国家将会欣然接受第一个出现的数字化选择,并通过建立在线服务迅速弥补这些差距。)”
根据倒数第二段的“Since 2010, the cost of starting a business has held steady in developed countries while falling sharply in emerging countries, from 66% to just 27% of the average annual income. Businessmen can now launch businesses affordably, organizing much of what they need on a smartphone.(自2010年以来,在发达国家,创业成本一直保持稳定,而在新兴国家,创业成本则大幅下降,从平均年收入的66%降至27%。商人们现在可以负担得起创办企业,用智能手机组织他们需要的很多东西。)”可推断出新兴国家的商人通过以较低的成本做生意来从数字技术中获益,故选C。
    26. 推理判断题。根据最后一段的“While the pandemic is weakening globalization, the age of rapid digitization has just begun. This offers many developing economies a revolutionary new path to catching up with the living standards of the developed world.(在疫情削弱全球化的同时,快速数字化时代才刚刚开始。这为许多发展中经济体提供了一条革命性的新道路,以赶上发达国家的生活水平。)”可推断出最后一段提到了“汽车和蒸汽机”是为了表明数字化将产生长期影响。故选B。
    27. 主旨大意题。通读全文,尤其是第一段的“People wonder how they will pay debts rung up during the Covid-19 pandemic and how they can grow rapidly as they did in the past.(人们想知道他们将如何偿还Covid-19大流行期间的债务,以及他们如何能像过去那样快速增长。)”和第二段的“The freshest answer is the fast-spreading digital revolution (革命).(最新鲜的答案是迅速蔓延的数字革命。)”
    C
When American Matt Stopera’s iPhone went missing, he thought, “Well, bad luck. These things happen.” One year later, Matt’s misfortune has turned to good fortune as he found a new friend and became an Internet celebrity in China.
You may already be familiar with this story since it spread on Weibo for weeks during the Spring Festival, but it started when Matt began seeing photos of a Chinese man in front of an orange tree on his photo stream (照片流). He wrote about it and some Chinese readers decided to see if they could find the mysterious man. They did. It turns out that “Brother Orange,” as he became known, owned a restaurant in Guangdong and the iPhone he was using, a gift from a nephew, was Matt’s old phone.
Matt and Brother Orange began messaging each other and a friendship blossomed with Matt invited to China to feast at Brother Orange’s restaurant on his delicious Hakkacuisine (客家菜). Matt was also overwhelmed by the warmth of the millions of Chinese who were following the story. When he opened a Weibo account he had 22 million followers almost overnight, many of them inviting him to their hometowns and offering to be his tour guide.
Matt’s story is another example of how powerful the Internet and social networking has become in bringing people together. But there is a darker side to this story and that involves how Matt’s missing iPhone turned up in China. Over three million smart-phones were stolen in America last year. Because of identification numbers, these phones can’t be used in America, so they are sent to other countries and many of them end up in China, where they can be re-activated. This is why Matt and Brother Orange could share the same iCloud account.
You should keep this in mind when buying a second-hand phone and check the serial number to see that it has not been stolen. Finding a friend through social networking is wonderful, but using a stolen phone isn’t really the best way to make the connection.
    28. What happened to Matt one year after he lost his phone?
    A. He was fortunate enough to get his phone back. B. He became a famous figure on American website.
    C. He gained friendship and became popular in China. D. He lost another phone because of his iCloud account.
    29. How did Matt and Brother Orange establish their friendship?
    A. Brother Orange’s photo was found on the Internet.
    B. Chinese readers tried their best to find Brother Orange.
    C. Brother Orange received an iPhone from his nephew.
    D. Brother Orange contacted Matt and invited him to China.
    30. How did Matt’s followers react to his Weibo?
    A. cautiously B. enthusiastically C. anxiously D. humorously
    31. What does the story indicate?
    A. It’s wonderful to find a friend through social net-working.
    B. A stolen phone is the best way to make connections.
    C. People should be careful when buying a second-hand phone.
    D. Matt and Brother Orange set a good example to us.
根据第一段“One year later, Matt’s misfortune has turned to good fortune as he found a new friend and became an Internet celebrity in China.(一年后,马特的不幸变成了好运,他找到了一个新朋友,并成为了中国的互联网名人。)”
根据第三段“Matt and Brother Orange began messaging each other and a friendship blossomed with Matt invited to China to feast at Brother Orange’s restaurant on his delicious Hakkacuisine.(马特和橘子哥开始互相传递信息,马特被邀请到中国,在橘子哥的餐厅享用他美味的客家菜,友谊由此绽放。)”
根据第三段“When he opened a Weibo account he had 22 million followers almost overnight, many of them inviting him to their hometowns and offering to be his tour guide.(当他开通微博账户时,几乎一夜之间就有2200万粉丝,其中许多人邀请他到自己的家乡,并提出担任他的导游。)”
根据最后一段“You should keep this in mind when buying a second-hand phone and check the serial number to see that it has not been stolen.(购买二手手机时,你应该记住这一点,并检查序列号,以确保它没有被盗。)”

The average temperature on Earth is now 1℃ hotter than it was in the late 1800s, and that temperature will keep rising toward the serious 1.5℃ standard over the next five years, according to a new report.
The authors of the new report predict that the average annual temperature on Earth will temporarily hit 1.5℃ of warming at some point in the next five years. “That possibility has doubled since last year. We’re seeing increasing changes in our climate,” says Randall Cerveny, a climate scientist at Arizona State University.
Topping 1.5℃ of warming in a single year wouldn’t break the Paris Agreement. But with every passing year of rising greenhouse gas emissions (排放), it becomes more likely that humans will cause catastrophic warming. The report calculates there’s a 90% chance that one of the next five years will be the warmest year on record. “It is yet another wakeup call that the world needs to speed up commitments to slash greenhouse gas emissions,” WMO Secretary-General Petteri Taalas said in a statement.
If the U.S. follows through on new promises to cut down on its greenhouse gas emissions, it would help limit global warming to some extent, although other countries including China would also need to reduce their emissions in the next 10 years.
In April, the U.S. promised to cut the emissions in half by 2030 compared with 2005 levels. Most of those cuts would need to come from electricity generation and transportation. Meanwhile, the fossil fuel industry is seeing more pressure to invest in clean energy. On Wednesday, a Dutch court ordered Royal Dutch Shell to cut its carbon emissions more quickly, although the company says it expects to appeal (上诉) the decision. And a small activist hedge fund (对冲基金会) successfully placed at least two new candidates on Exxon Mobil’s board of directors, with the goal of pushing the company to take climate change more seriously.
    32. What can we learn from Randall Cerveny?
    A. Climate change becomes more serious.
    B. The prediction about climate is in doubt.
    C. The experts think little of climate change.
    D. The average annual temperature doubled last year.
    33. What does the underlined word “slash” in paragraph 3 mean?
    A. Reduce. B. Avoid. C. Measure. D. Forbid.
    34. What can we infer from paragraph 4?

根据句意,“(feed) the young animals”是“using powdered baby milk”的目的,用不定式作目的状语。故填to feed。
故填which。
故填found。
本句中强调的是时间状语从句“not until they are old enough”,句子其它部分只能由that引出。故填that。
故填are。
at least为固定短语,意为“at least”。故填a。

I could feel the excitement rising in me as I held the beautifully wrapped present in my hands. I felt the string of the package softly and then, unable to contain my curiosity any longer, I tore it open. It was a bright, brand new laptop. I had scored straight as for my O level examination and this was my reward. I had always envied my friends who were exchanging news about ‘chat rooms’, ‘instant messaging’ and ‘e-mailing’, all of which I knew nothing about. Now I was going to find out.
It started out simply enough. I was searching for some information online when I came across a social networking site. Soon I became attracted to my new-found electronic friend. I began to spend more and more time on YouTube and became addicted to Facebook and Twitter. I had never imagined that the day would come when I would be controlled entirely by the glowing screen before me. Whenever I was not glued to these social networking sites, I would be going through gossip or fashion websites.
As time passed, I realized that I was addicted to the Internet. During weekends, when I had more time on my hands, I could easily spend a few hours on my laptop. It came to a point where I chose to lock myself in my room, refusing to come out and take part in family discussions. I preferred to stay connected to the people I made friends with on the Internet although I had never met them. Soon I was spending the whole hours of the morning surfing on the Internet. Sleep was reduced to small naps and my grades at school also began getting from bad to worse.
    注意:1. 续写词数应为150左右;
    2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
It was about this time that my parents noticed my change.
    ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Then one day,my father took away my laptop.

It was about this time that my parents noticed my change. They voiced their disapproval. It became obvious to them that I was spending too much time on the Internet. I was asked to slow down my usage of the Internet. Yet, however hard I tried, I was unable to pull myself away, unable to end my chat sessions, and unable to concentrate on my lessons. I was desperate for just another click, just another look at my e-mail or message board.
Then one day, my father took away my laptop. I cried and objected but in vain. Dad had made up his mind. Over time, I realized that Dad and Mum had always wanted the best for me. That was when I decided to take the big step—to conquer my internet addiction. Quitting was harder than I had expected. But with dogged determination, I knew that I would be able to do it. I promised my parents that I would turn over a new leaf.
