A wife’s level of education positively influences both her own and her husband’s chances of having a long life, according to a new Swedish study.
In the study, researchers from the Swedish Institute for Social Research in Stockholm found that a woman’s level of education had a stronger connection to the likelihood of her husband dying over education. What’s more, they discovered that a husband’s social class, based on his occupation, had a greater influence on his wife’s longevity(长寿) than her own class.
“Women traditionally take more responsibility for the home than men do, and, as a result, women’s levels of education might be more important for determining lifestyles-for example, in terms of food choices-than those of men,” say Srs. Robert Erikson and Jenny Torssander of the Swedish Institute for Social Research in Stockholm.
The results show that a husband’s level of education does not influence his longevity, but that men with partners who had quit studying after school were 25 per cent more likely to die early than men living with women holding university degrees. In turn, those married to women with university degrees were 13 percent more likely to die early than those whose wives had post-graduate qualifications.
According to the researchers, a woman with a good education may not marry a man who drinks and smokes too much or who drives carelessly, and men with such habits may not prefer highly educated woman. Drs. Erikson and Torssander also suggest that better-educated women may be more aware of what healthy eating and good health care consist of.
The findings suggest that education has a huge impact on how long and how well people live. It also reflects social factors, since educated individuals usually have better jobs, which allow them to afford healthier diets and lifestyles, as well as better health care.

Some of the world’s most talented musicians have played concerts at Lincoln Center. On September 10, the center hosted a unique class of star musicians: kids and teens. The young players are part of the World Peace Orchestra, or WPO. The group held its first Music for Peace concert in New York City, with 134 students from more than 60 countries taking part. Musicians were chosen from all over the world.
The World Peace Orchestra began in 2013. The nonprofit group brings kids together using the common language of music. To be considered for the orchestra, students first had to be recommended by their teachers and then audition online for a group of judges. Once chosen, professional musicians and teachers then worked with the players to improve their skills.
Some of the young musicians played classical instruments, such as violins and flutes. Others played instruments unique to their home country. For example, Amold Mugo, 16, from Kenya, played an instrument called the djembe. The drum is originally from West Africa. Mugo said he was shocked when he learned he was chosen for the orchestra. “I can’t express how I felt. I was rolling on the floor. It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity,” he said.
Adomas Hendrixson, 13, from Lithuania, played piano for the WPO. Before the New York City performance, Hendrixson talked about what he hoped to take away from the event. “Fun and joy-- people smiling and clapping,” he said.“This is one of the only times in your life this could happen and I'm very excited.”
Mugo says his favorite part of the WPO is making new friends from around the world. “I hope when I go home, I just take a little bit of every friend that I made here-- Brazil, Portugal, Queens,” Mugo said, “I hope that I take part of their culture home with me so I understand them more.”
25.Who is most likely to have played for the WPO according to this passage?
A.Li Ming, 16, a student from China.
B.Daniel, 44, a judge from America.
C.Edward, 21, a clerk from Australia.
D.Catherine, 32, a teacher from England.
26.We can learn from the last paragraph that Mugo ________.
A.performed best for the WPO.
B.has learned some foreign culture.
C.was eager to be chosen for a second time.
D.received a great award for his performance.
27.What would be the best title for this passage?
A.Kids were good at playing music.
B.Mugo liked making foreign friends.
C.Concerts were played at Lincoln centre.
D.Young musicians played for peace.

King Tut, Egypt's famous boy king, was buried with many valuable objects. A dagger (匕首) discovered in his tomb has recently attracted extra attention. Researchers have concluded that the dagger was probably made from a special material.
King Tut was only about nine years old when he became ruler of Egypt more than 3,300 years ago. The young king died when he was just 19, His body was buried in a tomb filled with objects that people believed he would need in the afterlife.
In 1922, Howard Carter discovered Tut's tomb in the Valley of the Kings in Egypt. Up to now, it was the best preserved ancient Egyptian tomb ever found. In 1925, Carter found the dagger which has a gold handle and an iron blade (刀片). The blade had confused experts because iron was hardly used at that time in ancient Egypt. In fact, it was so rare that it was considered more valuable than gold. Where did the iron for the blade come from?
Around the time of King Tut, ancient Egyptians started using a new word for iron that translates as "iron from the sky". This led some experts to believe that the iron for the blade came from a meteorite (陨石). But studies of the dagger carried out in the 1970s and 1990s didn't support that idea.
That's where modern technology comes in. Researchers used a new technique to examine the blade. They discovered that it was made up of iron and other materials found in meteorites. After comparing it to several meteorites, they even found its possible match — a meteorite that landed in northern Egypt thousands of years ago.
Scientists hope the new study will lead to more discoveries about other ancient Egyptian relics, "It would be very interesting to analyze more Pre-iron Age objects and we could gain precious discoveries," Daniela Comelli, who is a professor, said.
28.What do we know about Tut's tomb?
A.It was built when he was 9.
B.It has a lot of iron objects in it.
C.It was the first tomb to be found.
D.It was perfectly kept when discovered.
29.Why do scientists pay extra attention to the dagger?
A.Because its blade is made of iron.
B.Because it leads to more discoveries.
C.Because it was more valuable than gold.
D.Because it is King Tut's favorite object.
30.What does the underlined word "it" in paragraph 5 refer to?
A.The blade. B.The iron. C.A meteorite. D.The material.
31.What did the researchers use modern technology to show?
A.Ancient Egyptian objects are excellent.
B.Iron is widely used in ancient Egypt.
C.More valuable objects are hidden in the tombs.
D.Tut's dagger was likely made from a meteorite.
D
When it comes to figuring out the link between well-being and access to nature, there are big confusing factors. To begin with, what is psychological(心理的)well-being? The World Health Organization defines(下定义)mental health as “a state of well-being in which an individual realizes his or her own abilities, can deal with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and is able to make a contribution to his or her community”. That is hard to quantify.
Then there is the question of what “access to nature” means. Some studies measure passive access, or how much green space is available in someone’s local area. Others look at active access, which is the actual exposure a person gets to green space. That makes it difficult to compare results and build a coherent(协调的)picture.
A few researchers have tried to assess what the proper dose(剂量)of nature might be. A 2019 study involving almost 20,000 participants in England concluded that at least 120 minutes a week of recreational(消遣的)nature contact was connected with good health or well-being. The team, led by Mathew White, found that the effect peaks at between 200 and 300 minutes a week, with people reporting no further gain after that.
What exactly this means for you—or any individual—is unclear. As other studies indicate, the mental health benefits a person gets from access to nature are likely to be influenced by many factors, including age, gender, personality features, personal preferences and socio-economic status. Your culture matters too—and, so far, most research into the well-being effects of nature has been done in Western societies.
32.Which of the following might mean mental health according to WHO?
A.Ignoring ones’ own abilities. B.Complaining about stresses.
C.Communicating effectively. D.Having high productivity.
33.How long should people stay close to nature every week to gain the most?
A.50 minutes. B.150 minutes. C.250 minutes. D.350 minutes.
34.Why does the author feel uncertain about the finding?
A.Studies haven’t provided any results so far.
B.Studies haven’t considered all the factors.
C.Studies were only done in Western societies.
D.Studies have misled the public over the results.
35.What can be a suitable title for the text?
A.Why does nature affect health? B.Who does nature influence?
C.How much nature do I need? D.How does nature benefit people?
