Ludwig van Beethoven is undoubtedly one of the greatest musicians that ever lived. The German composer and pianist completed 722 musical works． including nine symphonies（交响曲），although being completely deaf during his last ten years. Unluckily, the master died while still working on his 10th Symphony.Now,a team of musicians and scientists have used AI（人工智能）to complete the artist＇s final masterpiece.

Elgamnal and his partners got the Al software familiar （熟悉的） at first with all kinds of classical music, and then narrowed it to just Beethoven's works. At the same time,Werzowa and his group tried to understand the rough sketches（草稿） and the few notes that detailed Beethoven＇s plans for the 10th Symphony.

The team then began feeding the Al software musical notes from the unfinished composition. Elgammal says that since music is very structured and mathematical（精碗的），Al can predict（预测） the next note reasonably correctly. To stay true to Beethoven's style. Elgammal sent Werzowa hundreds of Al-created musical note variations（变类） every evening. Werzowa would listen and then choose the closest one to what the artist would have written. The Al team would add the music and rerun the software to produce the next suggestions. Piece by piece, the team was able to complete the 10th Symphony!

Not surprisingly, the Al-created masterpiece is causing some controversy. Some experts believe technology should not be used to copy the human creative process.Elgamnal says their Al software is just a tool to help artists to express themselves in new ways.
