Scientists fund that when participants were ding a math prblem, the regin in their brain that is assciated with lgical thinking lit up, and when asked t make emtinal decisins, the regin fr emtinal thinking lit up. But the mst interesting part is that when asked t slve prblems that required bth lgical and emtinal respnses, the participants always used ne f the regins at a time while the ther ne went dark.
“Empathetic and analytic thinking are... mutually(相互之间地)exclusive(排斥的)in the brain," said Anthny Jack, leader f the study. "Yu dn't have t favr ne, but cycle efficiently between them, and emply the right netwrk at the right time."
Hwever, peple smetimes ended up using the wrng ne. This explains why sme peple are gd at slving cmplex math prblems but have pr scial skills. And why even the smartest peple get taken in by fake but tuching stries.
