As a teenager in the 1990s, Melissa Blake was interested in fashion. Unfortunately, fashion wasn't much interested in her. Blake, who has a bone and muscle disorder and stands a little under four feet tall, couldn't find jeans or dresses in her size. Looking through some fashion magazines, she didn't see a single person who looked like her.

That would have been a game changer for me," says Blake, who had 26 surgeries before age 17. “When you're a teenager - disabled or not - you deal with issues of self-esteem 自尊

Blake, 39, has spent her adult life trying to make up for that. She is a disability-rights activist as well as a writer, but she gained a national following after fighting back ugly comments about her online. She answered, "people said I should be stopped from posting photos of myself because I'm too ugly. So I'd just like to share these three selfies 自拍照

Her fans went wild, calling Blake a powerful woman.

“I feel like every time I post a selfie or share something about my life as a disabled woman, that is to fight back," Blake said.

Among her fans is Mindy Scheier, CEO of Runway of Dreams. Last fall, Scheier asked Blake to be one of the event's 24 models.

“Being able to put Melissa in the fashion event of the year just shows how important it is to expand the consumers in the fashion industry, or what we're really representing,"  Scheier says.

If you want to lose weight, you should choose your lunch companions wisely. A study found that co-workers who ate together tended to pick similarly healthy foods.

The researchers said their findings offered policymakers new strategies against fatness. "We found individuals tend to mirror the food choices of others in their social circles, said Dr. Levy, lead author of the research. "People may change their behaviour to strengthen the relationship in

    their social circle."

Co-workers may give each other permission to pick unhealthy foods, the researchers said, or place pressure to make a healthier choice. Levy added, "The effect was a bit stronger for healthy foods."

Employees at a hospital could pay using ID cards, allowing the researchers to collect data on what, when and where to buy. They worked out social relationships by looking at how long apart two people bought food, how often they ate and whether they visited a different cafe at the same time. They surveyed over 1,000 employees to ask them about the names of dining partners.

"Considering other shared characteristics, co-workers were influencing each other's habits, rather than friendships formed between people with similar lifestyles,"  Levy said.

The researchers said their findings could be widely used for public health interventions .It showed that interventions to improve healthy eating in a particular group may have a wider impact in individuals with social connections to that group.

Levy said, “To work out whether people with similar lifestyles and food preferences were more likely to become friends and eat together, we controlled common characteristics and analyzed the data from different angles, consistently finding the results were the same." 28. What is the study mainly about?

    A. How people choose lunch companions wisely.

    B. How social circles affect people's food preference.

    C. How policymakers offer new strategies against fatness.

    D. How researchers give co-workers permission to pick foods.

    29. How did researchers conduct their study?

    A. By analyzing data. B. By visiting cafes.

    C. By making comparisons. D. By interviewing experts.

    30. The findings may be useful for.

    A. public health guidelines B. food processing standards

    C. personal career suggestions D. social service requirements

    31. According to doctor Levy, what may strengthen social relationships?

    A. Buying food at the same cafe.

    B. Picking food at the same time.

    C. Using ID cards to pay in hospital.

    D. Copying each other's food choices.

Japan's government is facing criticism 批评for pressing its plans to hold the Tokyo Olympics even as the country deals with COVID-19. More than 300,000 people have signed a petition 请愿书calling for not holding the Games, which are set to open on July 23. An advertisement said people were in danger of being “killed by politics”.

Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga has repeatedly stated that the government is continuing with plans, promising the games will happen safely. Some Japanese lawmakers have questioned those statements as some hospitals still struggle to find beds for those sick with COVID-19.

Last month, Suga declared a third state of emergency in Osaka, as well as in Tokyo and two other areas. That lasted through May 31, 2020. On Wednesday, two more areas were placed under emergency measures. It is estimated that only 1 percent of the public has so far been fully vaccinated although millions of vaccines 疫苗sit unused in very low temperature storage.

Suga and his government have faced criticism for being too slow and soft on virus measures. Japan has been able to keep its number of virus cases and deaths below those in the U.S. and Europe without restrictive measures. But the results are worse than in some other parts of Asia. Japan has also fallen far behind in vaccinations. Though officials blame a lack of supplies from Europe, progress has been slowed because of staff shortages. About 7.6 million vaccines remain unused in freezers.

The president of the Tokyo Olympic organizing committee, Seiko Hashimoto, said that Japanese athletes were likely to get vaccines before the games began. "In Japan, the vaccination of the citizens isn't going very well," she said, adding that the public saw giving the athletes vaccinations as a special treatment, so this gives rise to dissatisfaction among the citizens toward the games.

    32. What does the underlined part in Paragraph 1 mean?

    A. The government is to kill the people who caught the virus.

    B. People are in danger for not supporting the Tokyo Olympics.

    C. People are angry that the government only cared about politics.

    D. The government doesn't provide enough vaccines for the public.

    33. What does Paragraph 3 mainly talk about?

    A. The vaccines are in short supply.

    B. The situation of COVID-19 is still serious.

    C. The citizens are unwilling to get vaccinated.

    D. Enough measures are taken against COVID-19.

    34. What can we infer from the passage?

    A. Lawmakers are in favor of Suga's statements.

    B. Japanese measures are the most effective in Asia.

    C. Japanese athletes are likely to get vaccines soon.

    D. Lack of vaccines isn't to blame for slow vaccinations.

    35. What's the citizens' attitude towards the Tokyo Olympics to be held as planned?

    A. Positive.              B. Uncertain. C. Dissatisfied.                    D. Supportive.

Her father looked quickly at his wife, then decided to continue, "But I'm going to build a new office at the end of the garden."

“At the end of the garden? There is the old oak tree..."  Holly didn't finish the sentence. Her face turned white with anger.

Holly's mother said, “That tree is very old, Holly. And your father can have his hew office there. It's perfect."

Holly was so upset. She couldn't believe this was happening. What could she do? They were going to cut down her tree!

She walked out into the garden. The sun was sinking now and the old oak tree was huge and dark against the sky. She climbed up the rope ladder and disappeared among the leaves and branches.

Now she was inside her old tree house. It was her favourite place in the world, her secret place. There were holes in its roof and there were old birds' nests in the comers. But there was a little chair, some broken toys and some blankets. She sat down and looked out at the garden and the sky. She could see the moon and stars. She could hear a bird singing. She could see the lights inside her house.
