We can't remember clearly since when we started to take our mobiles to a dinner table. This happens a lot, especially when we eat out. Once a dish comes, instead of lifting our chopsticks, we take out our mobiles and click. Later, we post the photos onto Weibo or WeChat, waiting to be "liked". Then we check our mobiles from time to time during the meal, to see whether we get "liked" or not. We just cannot leave our mobiles for only a meal.
Does that sound familiar to you? Do you do that often? If not, how do you feel when others do that when having dinner with you?
A recent study suggests that what we are used to doing is not so good. Spending time taking photos of food makes the food less delicious. To test this, some researchers did an experiment. Some people were asked to take photos before they could enjoy food. As a result, it showed that the more photos they took, . So, why not stop taking photos and just enjoy the food in front of you?
Besides the scientific result, there are also some other bad influences of taking photos of food before meals. After posting the photos onto the Internet, one will not be able to control himself and check his or her mobile many times. "Does everyone like my photos? I hope a lot of people like them!" It seems that your mobile secretly calls your name all the time, even when you are with real people.

When I was a little girl, my father loved to play catch (抛接球游戏) with me. I wasn’t very good, but he would encourage me. He was always telling me “keep your eye on the ball” as I would not be able to catch even the easiest of throws.u
As I got older, we didn’t play catch as much. If I had a problem, I would go to my father to ask for his advice. He would try to joke with me and say “keep your eye on the ball”. We would both laugh because usually that advice did not apply to(适用于) the problem, but he would try to make me smile.v
My father became ill in 1995 when I was 23. As he suffered from a stroke (中风), he could not speak. There weren’t any more conversations. He could only mouth words, which were sometimes hard to understand. After a while, I seemed to be pretty good at reading his lips (嘴唇), even better than the nurses who were caring for him.
During our last conversation, I was telling him about a problem I was having with my then boyfriend. Once again, I could read his lips: “Keep your eye on the ball.” We both smiled.

I often dreamed about Pisa when I was a boy. I read about the famous building called the Leaning Tower of Pisa. But when I read the word Pisa, I was thinking of pizza. I thought this tower was a place to buy pizza, it must be the best place to buy pizza in the world, I thought.
Many years later I finally saw the Leaning Tower. I knew then that it was Pisa and no pizza. But there was still something special about it for me. The tower got its name because it really does lean to one side. Some people want to try to fix it. They are afraid it may fall over and they don’t like it leans over the city.
I do not think it’s a good idea to try to fix it. The tower probably will not fall down, it is 600 years old. Why should anything happen to it now? And, if you ask me, I like what it looks like. To me it is a very human kind of leaning. Nothing is perfect, it seems to say.
And who cares? Why do people want things to be perfect? Imperfect things may be more interesting. Let’s take the tower in Pisa as an example. Why is it so famous? There are many other older, more beautiful towers in Italy. But the Leaning Tower tower is the most famous. People come from all over the world to see it.
( ) 13. This passage is about_______.
A. Italian pizza B. Italy’s problems
C. how the Leaning Tower of Pisa got its name D. why the writer likes Pisa
( )14. The writer used to think Pisa_______.

( ) 16. The writer_______.
A. doesn’t like what the tower looks like B. likes what the tower looks like
C. thinks it’s the most beautiful tower in Italy D. doesn’t like towers
( ) 17. The writer likes the Leaning Tower of Pisa because_______.
A. it’s old B. it’s perfect C. it sells pizza D. it’s imperfect

For too many, the damage begins early in life. Four out of 10 babies born in the United States do not form a strong relationship with either parent, and they will pay for that the rest of their lives.
New research from Princeton University confirms what other researchers have already found: The number of babies who are lack of the close relationship is rather big, which prevents them having a fair chance of having a successful life.
That finding is supported by many other research projects, including a study from the University of Rochester showing that nearly one-third of U. S. parents don’t know what to expect from their newborns, or how to help them grow and learn and get along with others. Babies, as others have pointed out, don’t come with an owner’s guide book.
The basic problem, according to the Princeton study, is 40 percent of infants in the U.S. live in fear or distrust of their parents, and that will turn into aggressiveness(侵害), defiance (挑畔) and hyperactivity(多动) as they grow into adults.
Of that number, 25 percent don’t have a close relationship with their parents because the parents don’t satisfy their needs. And 15 percent find their parents so troubling that they will avoid them whenever possible.
That will not necessarily result in a lifetime of violence, but it will make living a successful life much more difficult.
“They can overcome it,” sociologist Sophie Moullin of? Princeton, lead author of that study, said in a telephone interview. “It’s not a make or break situation, but they might find it harder to control their behavior.”
Moullin, along with coauthors from Columbia University and the University of Bristol in England, analyzed more than 100 research projects, to reach their conclusions.
Many factors, including poverty, ignorance, and stress among parents who are so busy with their own problems that a new child is sometimes more than they can deal with.
Yet strong relationships, the researchers say, are amazingly simple to achieve.
18. According to the writing style of the passage, it may be _________.
A. a news report B. a book report C. a novel D. a review
19. Which of the following is not true?
A. About 40 percent of the newborns do not form a strong relationship with either parent.
B. Some parents are too busy with their own problems to deal with a new child.
C. Parents’ failing to satisfy their babies needs may cause future problems.
D. Babies who fail to have close relationships with their parents are sure to have an unsuccessful life.
20. What may be discussed in the following paragraph?
A. Findings of other projects similar to this topic.

七. f you were born after 1995, then you won’t remember life before the Internet. Being connected through smartphones and social media is now just a part of growing up for many teenagers. Most of them have many nice experiences online, but there are risks as well.
Social media allows teens to communicate with others and build social networks. These networks can provide teens with valuable support. Teens also use social media for entertainment and self-expression. The platforms such as QQ, WeChat and Weibo, can help teens become aware of the latest events, allow them to communicate across distance and teach them all kinds of subjects, including how to behave well. A wide social network might even help teens avoid social worries.
However, social media use can also do harm to teens. The risks might be connected with how much social media teens use. A 2019 study of more than 6,500 teens in the U.S. found that those who spent more than three hours a day using social media might be at higher risk for mental (心理的) health problems. And an older study on students showed that the more time the students spent going out with their friends, the happier they might feel. Here are tips for you to make good use of social media:
● Discuss your social media habits with your parents. Ask your parents how he or she is using social media and how it makes him or her feel.
● Talk to your parents about how to avoid letting social media influence your activities, sleep, meals or homework. Keep smartphones out of your bedrooms and avoid electronic media use before bedtime.
● Ask your parents what is proper and safe to share on the social media. Have more face-to-face contact with your friends. This is especially important for teens who are weak to social worries.
