Dandan noodles are a famous dish from well-known Sichuan cuisine. But Li Hongkai, a famous chef in Zigong City, took the dish to a new level and brought it to international fame.
His golden thread noodles were recognized by Guinness World Records as the thin nest handmade noodles in 2007, which have won the hearts of customers. The dough is so thin that one can read the newspaper through it. The thin nest noodles can go through the eye of a net- de at once. His noodles don't get mushy in boiling water, but they are easy to melt in one's mouth. Despite their extraordinary characteristics, there is nothing special about the ingredients. But Li has a secret weapon: 17 years of practice.
Since 1990, he has got up at 4 o'clock in the morning to prepare the dough. As a beginner, Li slept on the restaurant's chairs to save time. After several years, he learned to control his body strength, which is necessary for the slicing techniques. He also developed his own kneading technique and improved the recipe. Years in the kitchen had paid off. His concoction (调制品) was first acknowledged by the World ' Association of Chefs' Societies, when he fitted six noodles through the eye of a needle in 1994. In the following years, he continued to polish his skills and won several cooking competitions.
After his golden thread noodles became popular, Li received many offers overseas. The restaurant he used to work for in Beijing also wanted him back with a handsome salary. But he decided to stay in his hometown and develop the native Salt Gang's dishes. “From my experience of working in large cities, most customers prefer genuine Sichuan snack,” said Li.

As the climate crisis worsens, some cities may turn to parks. Parks have long been places for people surrounded by the gray of asphalt and concrete to get a small deal of green. As cities increasingly feel the influences of rising seas and temperatures, city planners are re starting to think of the roles of parks.
“There has been a quiet and intelligent move to use parks to help cities adapt to the realities of climate change,” said Diane Regas, CEO of an organization that works to create neighborhoods and national parks. “it's more than shade trees that are helping fight climate change. Parks can help reduce coastal flooding, capture carbon and promote a sense of come-munity among those that will be affected by extreme weather.” Cities plan to build more parks that can reduce climate change effects like flooding and poor air quality.
All of the park-gray asphalt in cities collect heat—a lot of it. A study mapped the hottest areas of most cities and found that extreme heat was nearly always combined with the urban areas paved with lots of asphalt, Large parks cooled certain parts of the city by as much as 17 °F. That kind of cooling can be a lifesaver given more than 600 annual deaths caused by heat-related illnesses. There is no denying that climate change is real. And our parks are assuming the great responsibility and big challenge in the ways we can do the best. Using sat-elite data, the city is able to see what neighborhoods most need —the cooling effect of green spaces. Large parks like the planned D all as Water Gardens will be located in borne of the most heat-stressed parts of the city.
“Not a single solution by itself will solve the climate crisis. We see parks as an important part of it, but there isn't a silver bullet.” Re gas said. “Parks are an example of what we need to do in the environmental community to embrace solutions that can address climate change and make people ' life better.”
    28. What is paragraph l mainly about?
    A. The causes of climate change. B. The influences of rising seas.
    C. The rose that city planners play, D. The reason why cities plan to build parks.
    29. What is Regas's attitude to the establishment of urban parks?
    A. Tolerant. B. Approving. C. Subjective. D. Questioning.
    30. What does the underlined word “assuming” in paragraph 3 mean?
    A. Guessing. B. Skipping. C. Relying on. D. Taking on.
    31. What message does the last paragraph mainly convey?
    A. Climate change can be avoided.
    B. There is no solution to the climate problem.
    C. Parks are one choice to deal with the climate crisis.
    D. Fewer parks will be built to reduce climate change effects.

A new study finds constantly engaging in negative thinking patterns may increase the risk of dementia (痴呆). In the study of people aged over 55. Researchers found repetitive negative thinking (RNT) was linked to memory decline as well as the deposition of harmful brain pro-reins linked to dementia.
Lead author Dr Natalie Mar chant said, “Depression and anxiety in mid-life and old age are already known to be risk factors for dementia. Here, we found that certain thinking patterns involved in depression and anxiety could be an underlying reason why people with those d is orders are more likely to develop dementia.”
Over a period of two years, the study participants responded to questions about how they typically think about negative experiences, focusing on RNT patterns like reflection on the past and worry about the future. The participants also completed measures of depression and anxiety symptoms. Their cognitive function was assessed, measuring memory, attention, spatial cognition and language. Some of the participants also underwent PET brain scans, measuring deposits of two proteins which cause the most common type of dementia, when they build up in the brain,
The researchers found that people who exhibited higher RNT patterns experienced more cognitive de c lines over a four-year period and de c lines in memory, which are among the earlier signs of dementia, and they were more likely to have protein deposits in their brain. “We think that repetitive negative thinking may be a new risk factor for dementia as it could con-tribute to dementia in a unique way,” said Dr Marchant.
Co-author Dr Gael Chételat commented, “Our thoughts can have a biological impact on our physical health, which might be positive or negative. Mental training practiced such as deep thought might help promote positive thinking, and down-regulate negative associated mental plans. Looking after your mental health is important, and it should be a major public health priority, as it ' not only important for your health and well-being, but it could also impact your eventual risk of dementia.”
    32. What do the finding of the study indicate?
    A. Negative thinking has something to do with dementia.
    B. Depression and anxiety are main emotions in later life.
    C. Constantly engaging in thinking leads to one ' dementia.
    D. Positive thinking patterns likely cause mental disorders.
    33. What does the underlined word “they” in paragraph 3 refer to?
    A. rent patterns. B. Protein deposits. C. PET brain scans. D. The study participants.
    34. How does Dr Gael Chételat like mental health?
    A. It is crucial to people. B. It goes unnoticed at all in public.
    C. It is regulated by physical health. D. It seems less important than physical health.
    35. What can we infer from the text?
    A. rent patterns increase memory. B. Negative experiences build the body.
    C. Setting the biological clock affects emotions. D. Controlling negative emotions is good for health.

    阅读下面短文, 从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项. 选项中有两项为多余选项.
Sometimes divorce, single parents and tragedy can make us feel like the family units that many of us came from are a thing of the past overnight. 36 They link our past general-lions with the bright hopes of our future.
Almost every family tradition has its roots in necessity. Over time, that necessity be-comes a feeling of sadness mixed with pleasure and affection when you think of happy times in the past, and eventually it just becomes another way for families to connect with one another. 37 , those traditions once again become necessities as they assume new meaning in the context of our need to communicate and understand our loved ones.
38 For example, it occurs lightly, weekly or on holidays. While your concept of family dinner may descend from a prior generation, it's those same traditions that we choose to preserve that keep us from sitting at the table.
The reason behind the usual traditional holidays, in fact, is about establishing a healthy and meaningful purpose for coming together. 39 and even for the unreligious family, they provide the simple pleasure of knowing that you'll see your loved ones at least that often. For religious families, the winter holidays still provide a healthy reminder to let the world go on spinning while we connect with our families and engage in our heritage together.
40 : not the holiday itself, but the reason it gives us to strengthen our faith—not just in our beliefs or our cultural duties, but our faith in our families and the love we share, too.
    A. In fact, as families change
    B. When you are not homesick anymore
    C. The winter holidays only come once a year
    D. For many families, finding a balance of traditions is tough
    E. Our family traditions seem like the only things keeping us together
    F. Many traditions make a lot more sense if you look at them that way
    G. Family dinner carries small but significant associations and kindnesses

One evening I went to the park to refresh myself as usual. I rested on the bench and leaned back, stretching my legs. I did nothing but watch kids' activities over there. My eyes fell upon a pair of cute children. I was fascinated by their gaming, screaming and saying in no-cent words. Perhaps, they used to come regularly but I didn't notice them before. They seemed to be brother and sister, I guessed they were under ten years old. I stared at them as they involved themselves in their fun game; hide and seek. Their loose coats put a barrier to hide and easily one of them was caught by the other. Then I joined their game and enjoyed it without being an onlooker.
While playing, the girl came running towards me to hide behind the bench. The moment I saw her, she gestured, clamping her finger on her lips. I sat straight to help her to hide, acting as if I didn't know anything. After finishing his count down, the boy searched for her here and there. At last, he spotted her behind me and screamed, “Grace, come out. I saw you.”
She shouted loudly, “No, Christian, you cheated. You have to find me again. Go back behind the tree and start counting again.” The boy clapped his hands cheerfully. He laughed out loud, “No, I did it. You are caught.” They both started pulling each other. Somehow, I enjoyed their bane fully. Suddenly, I noticed Grace pull her brother towards the fence. A homeless little dog was struggling with pain.

    2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答.

M: I see. Well I'm sorry to hear that. The trouble is that we're a bit short of hands at present. Two waitresses are ill.
W: All right, but that's no excuse. My husband asked for goose and he was brought chicken instead. It's just unbelievable! And my beans weren't cooked properly. It wasn't a very enjoyable meal at all.

Before this, he had studied Chinese for a year at a university in Germany. So far,he has had no difficulty talking with Chinese people. But when Chinese people talk with each other,he still cannot easily understand them. Simon Fan has been to many places in China. Dear Editor,
I am writing to tell you something about my lifestyle.
When it comes to my healthy lifestyle, I ' m most proud of eating a balanced diet, which mainly includes vegetables and a little meat. Besides, going to bed and getting up early have become my habit.
However, I've developed some bad lifestyle habits, such as exercising too little and surfing the Internet in my spare time, which worries my parents a lot.
So I'll set a small exercise goal first and then achieve it step by step. I also plan to limit my online time. I believe that with great determination, I'll get rid of the bad lifestyle in the future.
    Yours,
    Li Hua
    第二节:
    参考范文:
Grace rushed towards the little dog and kept it on her lap. The dog was alone and not far away from the bench where I rested. So many other visitors were there but nobody paid any attention to it. It had a slight wound on the leg. I saw Grace untie her hair and wrap the wound with her wide ribbon. And Christian took out his water bottle and fed it on water. They both sat there for some time, Grace softly moved her tiny palm over its body and whispered a few comforting words.
Grace was really unwilling to go home, leaving the homeless dog in that condition. But Christian promised her to visit it again the next morning, Finally, they both went home, The park was almost empty. I remained there for a moment. Thinking of the attitude of the two children towards the dog, I was lost in thought. The manners must be inherited from their parents! How happy the life of everyone would he if the humanity compassion became increasingly popular everywhere! I picked up the dog silently, hoping to run into them when I walk it and play with them again.
