On July 31, 1697, a French lawyer named Jacques Sennacques wrte a message t remind a cusin in the Netherlands t send him a relative’s death certificate. T prevent thers frm reading the message, the nte was carefully flded, r “letter lcked.” The technique was used befre the inventin f envelpes. Hwever, fr reasns unknwn, the nte never reached the recipient and was instead stred in a pstmaster’s trunk, where it remained undetected fr centuries. Nw, a team f internatinal researchers has deciphered(破译) the cntents f the ver 300-year-ld sealed letter—withut pening it!
The chain f events leading t this technlgy began in 2015 when MIT expert Jana Dambrgi gt a call frm Daniel Starza Smith, a researcher at King’s Cllege Lndn. “He asked me, ‘What wuld yu d if I tld yu there was a trunk with 600 unpened letters?’”
The trunk had nce belnged t 17th-century pstmaster Simn de Brienne. Histrians believe the pst ffice stred the undelivered letters. That’s because, in the 17th century, it was the recipient, nt the sender, wh bre the pstage cst. When Brienne died in 1707, he dnated the trunk f letters t an rphanage. Smehw, the trunk eventually made its way t the pstal museum, where it lay until recently.
Since pening the letters wuld destry them, Dambrgi and her team decided t develp technlgy t unseal them virtually. They began by using a high-reslutin X-ray scanner t create a detailed three-dimensinal image f a sealed letter. While the writing inside shwed up very clearly, the numerus layers f flded paper pressed clse tgether caused the wrds t verlap(重叠).
T slve the issue, the researchers created sphisticated algrithm(算法) capable f deciphering the writing in the cleverly flded letter, crease by crease. The virtual pening allwed the team t read the cntents “while preserving letter lcking evidence.” The algrithm tk almst five years t perfect. Once perfected, they used it t pen fur lcked letters and fully decde(解码) the ne frm Sennacques.
    28. What can we learn frm the first paragraph?
    A. Quite a few peple culd write letters.B. Envelpes were nt invented in 1697.
    C. Jacques Sennacques was a pstmaster. D. Researchers culdn’t figure ut the letter.
    29. Why did the pst ffice stre the undelivered letters?
    A. T get paid.B. T find the senders.
    C. T save the cst.D. T scan the letters.
    30. We can cnclude that the flded letters______.
    A. were badly damagedB. were all decded
    C. remained very freshD. were very fragile
    31. Hw did the researchers decde the letter frm Sennacques?
    A. Physically.B. Chemically.C. Occasinally.D. Digitally.

Vaccines(疫苗) against COVID-19 are abut 90 percent effective at blcking crnavirus infectins, studies suggest.
Nearly 4,000 health care wrkers, first respnders and firefighters in six states tk part in the study led by CDC researchers. Frm December 14 thrugh March 13, the wrkers submitted weekly nasal swabs(鼻拭子) fr crnavirus testing. In the Califrnia reprt, infectins amng health care wrkers als fell with increasing vaccinatin levels. Only seven infectins ccurred amng 4, 167 peple wh were at least 15 days ut frm getting their secnd dse f vaccine. The vaccines prevented health care wrkers in the study frm becming serius ill, says study cauthr Francesca Trriani, a prfessr at the University f Califrnia, San Dieg.
But t really stp transmissin f the virus, it’s imprtant t vaccinate 18- t 30-year-lds, she says, “Thse are the nes wh are right nw transmitting the disease.” Mtivating these health peple wh are less likely t becme severely ill in the first place t take the shts culd be difficult, Trriani says, “There’s nt much in it fr them, but there is a lt in it fr their families, s I’m hping that realizatin will push them tward getting vaccinated.”
Because sme vaccinated peple can still get infected, the CDC recmmends that peple wh have gtten their shts cntinue t wear masks in public t avid spreading the virus.
    32. Which f the fllwing is true f the study led by CDC researchers?
    A. All participants in the study were medical wrkers.
    B. The study was carried ut in Califrnia and Texas.
    C. Nasal swabs were submitted fr testing every day.
    D. A small number f vaccinated peple gt infected.
    33. Hw des the writer supprt the findings in the third paragraph?
    A. By asking questins.B. By quting the saying.
    C. By listing the statistics.D. By describing a prcess.
    34. What des the Califrnia reprt suggest?
    A. Peple are advised t take tw dses f vaccines.
    B. One dse f the vaccines can ensure yur safety.
    C. The vaccines have sme slightest side effects.
    D. Old peple shuld be cautius t get vaccinated.
    35. Accrding t Trriani, wh are the vital peple t blck crnavirus transmissin?
    A. Healthy peple.B. Yung peple C. Elderly peple. D. Weak peple.
